On behalf of the Downtown Development Authority I want to tell you that we are so excited to bring the Cartersville Bluegrass and Folk Festival to the community for the 6th year in a row! What’s more, we are so appreciative of all the support we have received from everyone since we started hosting this event. We could not put this on without the effort, participation, and commitment that gets invested each year by our amazing sponsors and volunteers. Community engagement is one of the happy outcomes of the work we do at the DDA. From introducing people to downtown, to supporting our local businesses, to working on projects and encouraging volunteerism it seems like downtown is an ever-evolving entity with the community at its center. Downtowns live and die based on the relationship they have with their community and we are so fortunate to have the type of community in Cartersville that allows our downtown to thrive. So what does all this have to do with bluegrass music? Well – and hear me out on this, because I can relate anything to downtown – I think that downtown, and bluegrass, have their roots in the same place, which is the community. When Bill Monroe, who is widely considered to be the father of bluegrass, spoke about the genre he said: “it’s Scottish bagpipes and ole’ time fiddlin’. It’s Methodist and Holiness and Baptist. It’s blues and jazz, and it has a high lonesome sound.” When I think about that quote I think about the blending of styles, places, and experiences that go into making bluegrass music. Much like downtown it is a testimony to the lived experience of the people who created it. The difference is that this downtown is not a lonely place, it is vibrant and social and alive and that is all thanks to visitors and citizens like you! As Director of the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Program I would like to thank you for participating in the story of our downtown community, and I would like to officially welcome you to the 6th Annual Bluegrass and Folk Festival. I hope you enjoy all that we have to offer at the event and that, while you’re here, you’ll take some time to visit the amazing boutiques, restaurants, museums, and galleries that make up historic downtown Cartersville.

    With best regards,

Lillie Read, DirectorCartersville Downtown Development Authority

  • HARRIS KENDRICKAfter hearing modern flatpicking legends like Bryan Sutton and David Grier for the first time at age 25, Harris bought a Collings guitar and jumped with both feet into the world of acoustic music and bluegrass. Back home in Atlanta, Harris has increasingly focused on acoustic and bluegrass guitar and sharing all of its joys and challenges with students, as well as performing music he loves with great musicians all over the Southeast. Harris is a permanent member of the bluegrass band Control Burn out of Atlanta, GA. Firehouse Stage 12:00pm

BONAVENTURE QUARTETThe Bonaventure Quartet was originally just Dave and Charles who were nuts about Django. But we needed some low end, so we dragged Mark Bynum over on Sunday afternoons and became an all-acoustic trio based in Atlanta whose initial inspiration came from the great French gypsy guitarist, Django Reinhardt. At least, that’s how it started… www.thebonaventurequartet.comFirehouse Stage 4:00pm

He was raised roaming the hills of Georgia, exploring old copper mines and railroad trestles, while indulging a steady diet of Bluegrass, Gospel, Soul, and Country Gold. Jayron couples that backdrop with an arsenal of influences that range from Alison Krauss to Steve Earl, from Vince Gill to the Wallflowers. Jayron puts a stamp on his music that crosses over genre lines. Jayron has shared the stage with country music’s headliners and appeared on several television shows. Firehouse Stage 2:00pm
