THE MUSTARD

SEED

The mustard seed seems

insignificant at first glance. It's

only when we reflect on it, we

become aware that in it lies a

latent, hidden life. The

insignificant seed is alive, and

nature has given it the

possibility of becoming a tree

one day… only if certain

conditions are met! In other

words, if it falls on fertile soil,

and if it gets water and sun that

give life.

Mothers are marvelous! Fathers are too when they

have faith. We never get tired of seeing how they transmit

their faith in God to their children and God's great love. And

the children like it. Children are enthusiastic to learn how

to make the sign of the cross or how to kneel, like their

parents. Within the child lies a new soul that hopes to

fill himself with the love of God and claim the kingdom of

heaven. It is there, that there is a mustard seed.

We are the children of yesterday. We are that

mustard seed that should have grown into a tree. When we

were children, we were the owners of the kingdom of

heaven, the chosen ones of Jesus. How did life treat us?

What have we become? Do we at least maintain the same

faith, even though it's like the small seed?

That faith gave us many fulfilling encounters with

Jesus, especially in Holy Communion. That faith has kept

us united to the family of God's children, and we are still

here. That faith has comforted us during difficult times.

That faith helped us to be honest, fair, just and loyal

followers. That faith has taught us to love unconditionally

and made us responsible. How great is the mustard seed!

Faith is a gift from God that we receive with

gratitude. One of the characteristics of our faith, it is

persistent, clinging, and stubborn. How difficult it is to

break away from it. It hides in our soul and blossoms when

we least expect it, in order to bring us back to God, from

whom we receive it. That is why an atheist can't be

sincere for a long period of time.

We have to put forth an effort in order for our faith

to be conserved, and in order for it to grow. We have to

openly accept it in order to enjoy our faith, find a balance

between what we believe and what we do, the constant

deepening in what we believe, testimony of being committed

believers, and the faithful love of the Lord, who we believe

in.

Faith illuminates our lives, it gives it meaning, and

it gives us hope for eternal life. That is the miracle that

faith gives us, a gift from God who loves us. We need to give

thanks to God for giving us faith, even if it is like a small

seed, and we pray, like the apostles, that He strengthen our

faith. Even with faith the size of a tiny mustard seed, we

can make miracles.

MOSTAZA

La semilla de mostaza

parece insignificante a primera

vista. Sólo cuando reflexionamos

nos hacemos conscientes de que

en ella está la vida latente,

oculta. La semillita insignificante

está viva y la naturaleza le ha

dado la posibilidad de llegar a ser

un árbol… ¡si se cumplen ciertas

condiciones!, es decir, si puede

caer en una buena tierra que la

hospede y si tiene el agua y el sol

que dan vida.

¡Qué maravillosas son las

mamás! y también los papás cuando tienen fe. No nos

cansamos de ver cómo les trasmiten a sus hijos su fe en

Dios y su gran amor. Y a los niños les gusta. Cuánto

entusiasmo en aprender a persignarse o en arrodillarse

como sus papás. Allí hay un alma nuevecita que anhela

llenarse del amor de Dios y reclamar el Reino de los cielos.

Allí hay una semilla de mostaza.

Nosotros somos los niños de ayer. Somos esa

semillita que debió crecer y ser un árbol. Cuando niños,

fuimos los dueños del Reino de las cielos, los predilectos de

Jesús. ¿Cómo nos trató la vida?, ¿qué hemos llegado a ser?,

¿seguimos, al menos, conservando nuestra misma fe,

aunque haya sido como una pequeña semilla?

Esa fe nos dio muchos momentos de grato encuentro con

Jesús, sobre todo en la comunión eucarística. Esa fe nos ha

mantenido unidos a la familia de los hijos de Dios, todavía

estamos aquí. Esa fe nos ha confortado en las penas y en los

desconsuelos. Esa fe nos ayudó a ser honestos, justos, fieles,

leales. Esa fe nos hizo amar comprometidamente y hacernos

responsables. ¡Qué grande es esa semillita de mostaza!

La fe es un regalo de Dios que recibimos con

agradecimiento. Una de las características de esa fe, es que

es persistente, pegajosa, terca. ¡Cuánto trabajo cuesta

desprenderse de ella. Se esconde en el alma y brota cuando

menos la esperamos para hacernos regresar a Dios de quien

la recibimos. Por eso un ateo no puede serlo sinceramente

por mucho tiempo.

A nosotros nos toca poner algo para que la fe se

conserve y para que crezca. Nos toca poner la aceptación

libre y gozosa de la fe, la coherencia entre lo que creemos y

lo que hacemos, la profundización constante en lo que

creemos, el testimonio comprometido de ser creyentes y el

amor leal a Aquel en quien creemos.

La fe presente en nuestra vida la ilumina, le da

sentido y la hace ser promesa y prenda de vida eterna. Ese

es el milagro que hace la fe en nosotros, un regalo de Dios

que nos ama.

Damos gracias a Dios por tener fe, aunque sea como

una semillita, y le pedimos como los apóstoles que aumente

nuestra fe.

Con una fe del tamaño de un granito de mostaza

podríamos hasta hacer milagros.

We need the Parents of the Catechism children to attend this meeting to learn about the new studies plan and their active participation in the education of their children.

CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF THE

VALLEY This Beautiful Community of Coleville, CA is part of our Parochial Territory that for years were asking to have Mass. The Bishop Blaire blessed this Chapel and instruct them on how to have a Sunday Liturgical Celebration without a Priest. They have this Religious Service every Sunday at 10 in the morning and Fr. Jorge goes every first Wednesday of the month to Celebrate Mass at 4:30 p.m. MASS AND BENEDICTION.- Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. at Saint Joseph. Come and take advantage of this opportunity of spending quality of time with the Eucharistic presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

JUNTA DE PADRES DE NIÑOS DE CATECISMO.- El Jueves 6 de Octubre a las 7:30 p.m. en la Iglesia de San José. Esta junta informativa es de suma importancia. Necesitamos que los padres de los niños de catequesis estén bien informados sobre el plan de trabajo y la forma como han de colaborar en la formación de sus hijos. NO FALTEN. RETIRO ESPIRITUAL PARA CATEQUISTAS.- Lunes 3 de Octubre de 5 a 9 p.m. en la Rectoría. Recuerden que es nuestro compromiso el enseñar a los niños el camino que les conduce a Dios, pero para eso, necesitamos conocerlo nosotros mismos. Traigan el Certificado de Bautismo y un generoso donativo para registrarse. La Catequesis no es sólo para la Primera Comunión o la Confirmación, sino que debe ser una educación continua de todo fiel Cristiano. También ´podrán registrarse Adultos que no hayan recibido algún Sacramento.
