Real Gusto Comes Later: How Professional Women Experience Retirement is a recently-published compilation of the perspectives of 15 accomplished women, many of whom live here in the Capital City. Several of the authors—Fanchon Funk, PhD, Freddie Groomes-McLendon, Marjorie Turnbull, Dr. Joel Dawson and Dr. Ruth Hobbs— will be on the Senior Center stage to talk about what they’ve learned from each one’s unique brand of retirement. Add the wit and unique outlook of newspaper publisher Mike Pate, and this promises to be an unforgettable hour.

The authors will talk about transitioning to a “retirement” after fulfilling careers. Their engaging stories, anecdotes and lessons are based on wide-ranging experiences—both past and present— “achieving gusto through participation in civic and social organizations” and living their dreams.

Mike Pate, former publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat for Knight-Ridder and member of the Knight Creative Communities Institute advisory board, joins the Real Gusto women to discuss redefining oneself during retirement—and succeeding handsomely.
