PARISH SUPPORT

This weekend we are blessed to hear of the commandments that God has written and placed on our hearts. Our first reading speaks of growing in wisdom and prudence. In this time the world is moving fur-ther and further away from what the Church understands conscience to be about. Right now, it seems to most often be used to “do whatever I want and blame it on conscience.” Below are a few quotes from the Cat-echism referencing our need to form our conscience according to God’s will and desire for us, and not to do what we want. I would encourage reading this entire section to better understand God’s expectations of us, so that we may be ready to answer for our life’s choices.

1783 Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments accord-ing to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Cre-ator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judg-ment and to reject authoritative teachings.

1784 The education of the conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recog-nized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and feelings of complacen-cy, born of human weakness and faults. The education of the conscience guar-antees freedom and engenders peace of heart.

1785 In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path, we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also ex-amine our conscience before the Lord's Cross. We are assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and guided by the authori-tative teaching of the Church.

IV. ERRONEOUS JUDGMENT

1790 A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience. If he were to deliberately act against it, he would condemn himself. Yet it can happen that moral conscience remains in ignorance and makes erroneous judgments about acts to be performed or already committed.

1791 This ignorance can often be imputed to personal responsibility. This is the case when a man "takes little trouble to find out what is true and good, or when conscience is by degrees almost blinded through the habit of committing sin."59 In such cases, the person is culpable for the evil he commits.

1792 Ignorance of Christ and his Gospel, bad example given by others, enslave-ment to one's passions, assertion of a mistaken notion of autonomy of con-science, rejection of the Church's authority and her teaching, lack of conversion and of charity: these can be at the source of errors of judgment in moral con-duct.

MONTH OF THE ROSARY Please come see us at the stewardship table for your FREE ROSARY after all Mass-es in October.

OCTOBER 10th, 2021

RESPECT LIFE MONTH During the month of October, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life. As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning to the end of their lives, and at every point in between. Respect Life Month takes on a special urgency this year. Most Kansas Catholics still do not know that because of a state court ruling, Kansas is again becoming an abortion destination for the Midwest. Unlimited and unregulat-ed abortion, including taxpayer-funded abortion, will almost certainly happen in Kansas unless we pass the Value Them Both state constitutional amendment for life. Kansans will vote on the amendment next August, but we must become educated and involved now as the abortion industry is already sowing confusion and misinformation. www.ValueThemBoth.com

HELP NEEDED to DELIVER COMMUNION

When you look at the crucifix, you understand how much Jesus loved you then. When you look at the Sacred Host, you understand how much Jesus loves you now.

- St. Teresa of Calcutta

Our Parish is in need of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to help visit the hospital once a month on a Friday of your convenience. Our goal is to have two Min-isters visit each week and, with several Ministers available, our hope is that each Minister would need to visit only once a month. If you are interested in helping or more information, contact [email protected].
