New Play Group - The first meeting of a new Dayspring Play Group will be on Wed., Nov. 16, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. in Room 115. We will be doing a Thanksgiving craft project using cutouts of the kids’ feet to make paper turkeys. Trips to the zoo, the park, and other kid-friendly places are being planned. Interested? Explorer’s Class continues its series on “Justice for the Poor” today. The topic will be “The Gospel of New Orleans.” This dvd/discussion series focuses on what the Bible says about the poor and the church’s responsibility towards those who are disenfranchised in our society. 9:00 a.m. in the Adult Room.

Adult Bible Study Class meets at 9:00 a.m. in Room 112. We will be studying “Exodus and the Law” for the next three weeks. If you are interested or have any questions, contact Cathy Smoot at (480) 497-2948.

Contemporary Issues - This 10:30 a.m. adult class is studying the origins of the Bible, how it has evolved, and how it is interpreted today.

This journey of discovery will help us explore and understand how this book has become the most influential writings in human history. Join us as we read, discuss and learn about the Bible’s ancient beginnings and our present day interpretations.

Singles at Dayspring -Singles, Etc. Lunches - Each Sunday after the second service, those who want to go out for lunch as a group meet at the restaurant listed below. If you attend first service, please join us! We gather around noon under the name “Dayspring”. October 30 - Golden Gate - NE corner of Baseline and Price (101 Freeway).

Women’s Retreat - Mark your calendars for Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 and plan to attend this upcoming event. The retreat will be held at the same location as last year at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale. More information will be coming!

50 Plus - Celebrate Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving Day with 50+ on Friday, Nov. 18th, at 12:00 noon in the Shalimar Country Club restaurant, 2032 Golf Ave., Tempe. Make your $12 per person reservations with Erma Dean at (480) 839-4657 or with a 50+ caller. Dr. Zeke Prust, ASU professor will speak on “Background Europe - D-Day 1944". Dr. Prust served as a sergeant tank commander under the command of General Patton.

Dayspring United Methodist Women - The Greeting Card Circle will meet on Nov. 3 at 9:30 a.m. in the office anteroom. The Mary Martha Circle will meet Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Nancy Jamison. The UMW Unit Meeting will be held Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Adult Room for program and refreshments.

Quilting Group - A new quilting group at Dayspring is starting up at the home of Susan Oliver on Thursday, Nov. 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. These quilts will be given to UMOM’s Domestic Violence families. If you are interested in helping, please call Susan at (480) 205-2797 or email [email protected].

Family Promise - Thanks to everyone who helped to make Family Promise a success this past week! Dayspring hosted 4 families comprised of 7 children and 5 women. One woman found a job, and her job may lead to a job for one of the other women. A beautiful part of the week was the children. Their prayers before dinner were adorable. We wish you could have heard them. Thank you again for your generosity. Maria Hase.

“Connections” is a Dayspring mission that advocates for the intrinsic

worth of all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation. It offers support to and education about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons and their families. It also hosts the Tempe PFLAG group meeting each first Friday of the month. Our clergy can provide the names of “Connections” members for you to contact.

Brown Bag Lunch - Come join us for Brown Bag Lunch every Tuesday at 12:00 noon. Bring your own lunch and socialize with people from the church. We always have a good time! Come and be part of this fun group!

The Boutique is Coming Up This Week! Did you miss out on buying your tickets for Dayspring Holiday Boutique Opening Night? Don’t worry - we are still selling tickets this morning, Oct. 30 th. Or, stop by the Preschool office to pick them up during the week.
