I am not only a satised customer/member of the Chamber, I am a raving fan of the Chamber and I know many of you understand my thoughts and mirror them. As all sports team, retail stores, and nancial institutions do, they develop ways to appreciate their customers/fans and the Chamber is no exception to that smart business practice. On November 9 th , the Chamber will host its inaugural “Be Our Guest, Member Appreciation Breakfast” presented by Progress Energy, and sponsored by Strombeck Consultng CPA’s, Hillcrest Insurance Services and Orlando Health. Continuing with the giving and receiving theme, here is your chance to give and receive recognition by providing a centerpiece which features your business. Hurry to get in on this limited opportunity, see page 5 for details. There is even more to this appreciation breakfast that is complimentary to one person from each member business, thanks to our sponsors and your dues. Committee chairmen and outgoing board members will also be recognized. We will also be celebrating the milestone anniversaries of Chamber membership for members and Trustee members; one year, ve year, 10 year, etc. Our board members are providing fantastic prizes to celebrate the anniversaries, as well as providing door prizes for simply attending. There will be more giveaways too. Mark your calendars and as soon as you can, RSVP online to reserve your spot. Speaking of online registering, we have been working to iron out the bugs with our RSVP system. To see how easy it is to do, go to page 7 and learn how. Responding to an event in advance, especially Business After Hours, not only cuts down on your time on a line at the event, it helps the host make certain that they will have enough food and beverage for everyone. Help us to be good hosts; no one likes to wait in line and no one likes it when the food runs out. Actually, another way to simplify your Business After Hours registration and payment, is by purchasing BAH Bucks(Business After Hours Bucks) in advance. You still can register easily on line and select the option that shows that you will pay at the door with a BAH Buck. They are really worth ve bucks, which is the advance purchase price for the event. To get a great deal on BAH Bucks and get them for $4 each, see the offer on Page 9 that allows you to buy ve BAH Bucks for $20. See you on November 9 th for a morning of recognition, giving and receiving. Let us celebrate you, our members and raving fans.

Keeping An Eye on the Issues

The Chamber Team is keeping an eye out on local issues so that we may keep you informed on issues of local and regional importance. Here is what we kept an eye on in September.

The Pine Hills Business Redevelopment Task Force - The group met on Monday, September 19th. Items on the agenda included a Brownfi eld Grant Award, the Pine Hills Trail, Infrastructure Funding, NID Ordinances, Marketing, a Farmer’s Market and a Predestination Initiative. The next meeting will be on Monday, October 17 at 11:00 am to 1:00pm at the Orange County Library ~ Hiawassee Branch, 7391 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, Florida 32818 (Hiawassee & West Colonial/Hwy 50).

West Orange/South Lake Transportation & Economic Task Force – Stina D’Uva attended this meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:30am in Winter Garden City Hall. The group participated in a visioning process to determine the roadway corridor that would connect SR 429 with US 27 in Lake County. A presentation was also made by Orange County on the industry clusters that may be expanded upon in this area or north of Horizon West in the Ocoee, Winter Garden, Apopka areas along the 429. The next meeting will be on October 19th at 7:30am at the commission chambers of the city of Winter Garden.

SR 429 Economic Planning Group held its September meeting to discuss the progress of a grant application and the addition of funding for the Wekiva Parkway to be added as a project to the CEDS grants as part of the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council’s (ECFRPC) list of regional projects. A letter will be sent to the ECFRPC to make such a request. The completion of the Wekiva Parkway will be an integral part of planning and marketing of the 429 along Apopka, Ocoee and Winter Garden.

West Orange Aviation Authority (WOAA) Monthly Board Meeting – Krista Carter attended the meeting at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 28th at Apopka’s city hall. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October, 10/26 at 10:00am at city of Winter Garden..

On September 28th, 2011, The West Orange Chamber of Commerce’s (WOCC) Small Business Development Team hosted the second annual “Navigate Your Way to Success”, presented by Best Cleaners, Bright House Networks Business Solutions and Strombeck Consulting CPA’S. The seminar featured Mary Tomlinson from On Purpose Partners, A.J. & Kiki Grossman of Grossman & Grossman, P.A., Robert Fleming & Jason Johnson of Marlin Consulting Solutions and Saralyn Collins of The Training Bridge. Be a “Teacher for a Day”

The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools is recruiting local business and community volunteers to head back into Orange County classrooms on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 – not to be taught, but to teach during Teach-In 2011.

Teach-In is a day dedicated to engaging the community in student enrichment. This day is held in conjunction with American Education Week - the third week of November. The Foundation brings involved citizens into the classroom - in a fun and engaging way - to talk with students about academics, careers and the future.

Volunteers can take on a variety of activities for their classroom experience, such as reading, career discussions, presentations on travel and cultures, civic involvement and more. Teach-In has brought thousands of citizens into local classrooms each year since its establishment in 1991. Teach-In is coordinated by the Foundation and is made possible by the generous support of Bank of America and the Orlando Sentinel.

Registration to be a “Teacher for a Day” is easy. Click on this Teach-In link for more information or this online Teach-In Registration link to volunteer. The Foundation will assist in matching volunteers to a school.

New Payment Options Beginning January 2012 for Business After Hours!

In an effort to streamline the check in process at Business After Hours events and to also guarantee that there is enough food and drink for everyone at such events, beginning January 2012, we are asking that all members register and pay, in advance, for Business After Hours events.

When you register in advance the Chamber is able to provide an accurate guest count to the host business for their Business After Hours event. This allows them plenty of time to prepare for enough food and drink for everyone attending the event. Unfortunately, when you do not register in advance there may be times when the host business will not have as much food and drink available, so please remember to to RSVP.

Additionally, beginning January 2012, we are asking that all members pay in advance for Business After Hours. This will allow the check in process at Business After Hours events to move more quickly for everyone! Those who pay in advance, will receive the advance payment rate of $5.00.

We have several different payment options available to you:

You may pay with your credit card or debit card through our Web site or over the phone with a Chamber staff member. Utilizing one of these ways will afford you the $5.00 advance payment rate.

If you prefer to pay for Business After Hours by cash or check ,you may also mail a payment to WOCC or drop by our offi ce, prior to the event. All payments made in advance will receive the advance payment rate of $5.00.

Finally, we want to remind you that you can purchase Business After Hours Bucks (“BAH Bucks”), as an additional way to receive the $5.00 advance payment rate. Each BAH Buck costs $5.00 or you can buy 5 BAH Bucks for $20.00! Visit the Chamber offi ce to purchase as many BAH Bucks as you like – they never expire! When you arrive at a Business After Hours event simply use one BAH Buck to pay for your admission upon check in, it’s that simple!

If you have any questions about our new payment options beginning in January of 2012, please feel free to contact us, we are happy to help!
