September

“When a nonprofi t organization reaches out to you, reach back!” is what Joe Ray, Executive Director of Adaptive Aquatics in Wilsonville emphasized at the September Chamber luncheon. Nonprofi t organizations are having tough times in this economy too and their services have not changed according to Joe. Adaptive Aquatics is a 501c-3 nonprofi t organization dedicated to the introduction, teaching and advancement of adaptive water skiing for children and adults with physical disabilities. Our Chamber President Tim Prince welcomed everyone to the luncheon and board member Evan Major gave the invocation. Our luncheon was sponsored by Alabama Power and hosted by Hartley’s Down Home Kitchen of Chelsea. Emphasizing nonprofi ts we had expo booths representing Family Connection, Greater Shelby County Education Foundation, The Arc of Shelby County, Spirit of Hope Youth Ranch, Jobs Program at Shelby County Department of Human Resources, The Shelby County Arts Council and Adaptive Aquatics. We welcomed new members and called out wonderful door prizes donated by chamber member businesses. The tables were decorated with a Jimmy Buffett theme for our upcoming Silent Auction and Gala. A big thank you goes out to the volunteers of the chamber including ambassadors and RSVP Volunteers.
