Some people say that Obidos is the prettiest village in Portugal and I'm inclined to agree with them. That, and the fact that it was named a world heritage site by UNESCO makes Obidos a definite must see on any tour of Portugal. The village sits on a hilltop and is surrounded by medieval castle walls that offer sweeping views of the surrounding valley. The original castle was built over 800 years ago but much of what is there today was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1755 .
