Limitations of the Motivation theoryLimitations of the Motivation theory

y Requires periodical inducements such as wage hikes orperks.

y It is a cosmetic tool & cannot be sustained for long as theeffort required to sustain motivation is very high

y Work environment controls Motivation. Over time, it gets

saturated and becomes relativey As others set goals to infuse motivation, employees may lack

enthusiasm and may experience fear of failure

y Because of its being an external factor, even highly motivatedpeople find it difficult to sustain the high level in the face of

failurey In the absence of motivators, the desire to achieve or excel

could collapse and jobs may be performed without a senseof ownership, duty and commitment

InspirationInspiration

y Organizations can adopt Inspiration theory not only to driveperformance but also to manage talent. To make this work, anorganisation needs mentors.

y Mentors inspire and can serve as role models in the workplace. They support and sustain an individual's performance by

providing the right amount of personalized attention andinspiration. Inspiring mentors are more powerful and help expandthe community of inspired people within the organisation.

y They are capable of articulating collective wisdom and strengththus creating an inner urge among people to pursue the path of excellence.

y For the inspiration theory to succeed, organizations shouldnurture a culture that encourages mentorship. The topmanagement should support the 'Inspiration model' to ensure itsacceptance throughout the organisation.
