A Message from Mrs. Lynch I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. What a great game Saturday evening!!! Congrats to our Sham- rocks! We have sure had a busy week at Oak Trace! Tuesday our second-graders did a great job sharing their sci- ence projects and then on Wednesday our first-graders conducted their Habitat projects! Special thanks to all who donated to the Amanda Strong food drive, gift card drive, and Empty Bowls. Our fourth-graders did such a great job on their cardinal bowls. In addition to canned foods, we also collected $450.00 from the sale of celebrity bowls to give to the local food pantry, Open Doors. This Saturday our choir will perform at Westfield in Lights and next week we will have our Book Fair and the first and second -grade program. More great news!!! We found out that Oak Trace took the #1 spot in the state in our division for Spellbowl! Congratulations again to our Spellbowl team and Mrs. Hiatt!!! We are so proud of you! Enclosed in the newsletter is information on how you can purchase Pacer tickets and support Oak Trace at the same time. These tickets make great holiday gifts. So, if you are planning to take in a Pacer game this season, please consider purchasing this way. Packets are going home today. You can select the Oak Trace school night, March 15th or any of the other games. Just return the packet to me. Please be sure to read information in the newsletter about the remaining focus groups and be sure to attend! There is also information on school delays and cancellations due to weather. D I G I TA L C I T I Z E N S H I P :

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week. We have so much to be thankful for!

We had a great time in Digital Citizenship during the month of November. We continued to learn how to be responsible on our electronic devices, and we’re continuing to learn new programs and how to type.

Kindergarten Students are getting very good at logging into and shutting down their computers the right way. They also learned how to be safe while on the computer, meaning they learned what they can share and what they can’t share as well as what to do when they see strange things. They are now beginning to learn where all of the keys are on the keyboard.

First Graders learned about their home row keys and are now doing an ex-cellent job typing with their fingers on the home row keys as they work through our typing program, Type To Learn 4. This week lwe earned how to go places safely on our electronic devices, and we also reviewed the Paint program, which they love!

My Second Grade Students learned all about PowerPoint this month and have been practicing how to use the program. This week they got to choose a topic to create a PowerPoint on and learned how to search for information about a topic using Google. This will help them prepare to create their Pow-erPoint and later present it to the class!

Third and Fourth Graders just finished using Word and should be experts in how to format a letter. I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving surprise from your child! If you didn’t receive anything, I encourage you to ask your child about a Thanksgiving surprise they created in Digital Citizenship for you (let’s hope they still have it!).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to connect with me!

Mrs. McGaughey, Digital Citizenship

News from the Library...

Well...it is here!!!! It is officially Book Fair time at Oak Trace! This is always such an exciting and fun time for everyone! It is a great chance to pick up some awesome books for your own kiddos PLUS a great time of year to pick up some gifts for others! Also, all of the proceeds from our Book Fairs go towards something special for everyone - usually our annual author visits! This has become a tradition that our students (and staff) look forward to each year! And, because our Book Fairs are so successful, we are lucky to be able to continue it! Here are a few "key" things you should know about the Book Fair:

Friday, Dec. 2: ALL classes visiting the Book Fair and browsing to make their "Wish List" to bring home to share! (Students do not have to purchase those books that they wrote down, but it gives you an idea of what they are interested in!)

Monday, Dec. 5-9: Students are able to purchase books at the Book Fair during their normal library time!

Tuesday, Dec. 6: "Family Night" at the Book Fair! I will be here from right after school until 6:30 pm! Feel free to come shop by yourself or with your children! This is the only night that the book fair will be open past normal school hours!

All checks need to be made out to OTES PTO! There is no sales tax on purchases. If a student/parent has to order a book (because it has sold out) - it needs

to be paid for at the time they order it and I will deliver it as soon as it arrives! (Usually 1-2 days later!)

Book Fair will be closed, each day, from 11-12:15 and will close for the day at 3:30.

Hope to see you at Family Night on Tuesday, December 6th! Happy Reading! Mrs. Lane

Soon we will welcome our new art teacher to Oak Trace as I will be home with my new baby. I would like to introduce Miss Grace Coffey. She is currently finishing her student teaching in West Lafayette, IN and will be a great addi-tion to the Oak Trace staff starting in the middle of January. Miss Coffey will be with the students for the re-mainder of the school year. She looks forward to completing many fun and engaging art projects with the stu-dents.

This Saturday the OTES Treble Choir will be singing at Westfield in Lights at 5:00! If you are out and about, please stop by to hear all 100 of them!

Next Thursday, December 8, is the 1st and 2nd grade pro-gram “Freeze Frame” in the Westfield High School audi-torium at 7:00. Doors will unlock at 6:30, and students need to be back stage at 6:45 to line up and get ready to sing!

Have a “Harmonious” Weekend!

Flu and asthma season is upon us! To safeguard all our students, please adhere to the following school policies regard-ing illness and medications. * By Indiana State Law - all medication, both prescription and non-prescription (including cough drops) must be brought into the nurse's office by a parent or guardian, or an adult appointed by the parent or guardian. * No student shall be permitted to carry medication on their person. Exceptions to this rule will be made only with the prior approval from the nurse or principal. * Students must be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication in order to return to school. * All red or pink eyes with pus or drainage present should be evaluated by a physi-cian. * Students with vomiting should remain home until able to tolerate solid food. * Students with strep throat should remain home until they have had at least a full 24 hours of antibiotic treatment and are fever free without the use of fever reducing medication. Thanks for adhering to these district policies and helping our kids stay a bit healthier through this season.

Kindergarten and First Grade Parents:

Accidents of all sorts can happen here at school which require a change in clothing - food/drink spills, wet/muddy clothes at recess, bathroom accidents, etc. Please send in a change of clothes for your child to be kept in the classroom in the event of an accident. 1. Send a change of clothing including underwear, shirt, pants and socks in a large ziplock bag - this will remain at school in your child's classroom. 2. Please label the outside of the bag with your child's name and teacher.

School officials start monitoring road conditions no later than 4 a.m. Every attempt is made to make a final decision by 6 a.m. so that working parents can make child care arrange-ments.

Likewise, the decision to dismiss school early has to be made by 11 a.m., in order for drivers to be called in. In the past several years, we have only made this decision when road conditions are expected to be worst at dismissal time. Parents will be notified of an early dismissal using the same procedures as a school delay.

Come and Celebrate Indiana’s 200th Birthday in the cafeteria!!!

Join us for lunch Friday, Dec. 9th. Receive a brownie, if you get a
