Curriculum Vitae Gilaad G. Kaplan, MD, MPH January 2016 1 Short Biosketch Dr. Kaplan is a tenured Associate Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary. Dr. Kaplan is a gastroenterologist and epidemiologist who has devoted his clinical and research career to study the cause of gastrointestinal diseases, such as the inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), and improving the care of patients living with these conditions. He graduated with a Masters of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health and completed an IBD Fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He joined the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary in 2007 as a clinician-scientist with 80% protected time for research. He was a Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) New Investigator (2009-2014) and is an Alberta-Innovates Health-Solutions Population Health Investigator (2010-2017). He is a member of the executive committee in the O’Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary and the Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada. Dr. Kaplan was selected into the inaugural class of the AGA Future Leaders Program. Dr. Kaplan has over 130 publications, with an H-index of 34 and over 4500 citations (source: Google Scholar). Dr. Kaplan’s study on the global epidemiology of IBD (PMID: 22001864) is the most cited paper in Gastroenterology over the past 5 years with over 700 citations and a Field-Weighted Citation impact of 73.7 (source: Scopus). Short Biosketch

Dr. Kaplan is a tenured Associate Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the

University of Calgary. Dr. Kaplan is a gastroenterologist and epidemiologist who has devoted his

clinical and research career to study the cause of gastrointestinal diseases, such as the

inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), and improving the care of patients living with these
