ROSA LEE JENNINQS peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2004, after a long and courageous life. Rosa was the second eldest of thirteen children born in McDuffie County, Georgia to Ruby and Grover Farr, Sr.

At an early age, Rosa accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Lincoln Baptist Church. In 1928, she relocated to Augusta, Georgia, and in 1932 joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Sunday School Class #21, Senior Mission and January Birthmonth Fellowship Group. That same year, she wed Cleo Bennett, and in 1933, she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Jessie. Carolyn Bennett Bradley, was a devoted and loving daughter, the “apple of her mother’s eye” and the joy of her life. Rosa remarried in 1942, to Alphonsa J. Jennings (who died in 1963). He was a loving husband and wonderful stepfather to Carolyn. Carolyn went to be with Jesus in 1983.

Flappy times for Rosa were the summers, when her grandchildren came to visit. They kept her busy and supplied her with good story telling. Grandson, Kevin, lived with his grandmom for the first five years of his live. These may have been Rosa’s happiest years. Granddaughter, Denise (Nicey), recalls how her grandmom, Rosa, arrived within two days of the birth of her son, Isaiah. She put all of her personal needs aside and stayed with them in Philadelphia for a month. Grandmom always seemed to be there for them.

Rosa was magnificent in the kitchen, too. Every meal she cooked was delectable. Everyone can remember the fresh pecans and special fruit cake that she prepared for family and friends every Christmas. Always with a funny comment and hearty laugh, Rosa spread joy and mirth everywhere she went.

Rosa, like many people during her time, learned to work and disci- pline herself at an early age with very little education. Rosa had to quit school, work and help out with family chores. She supported herself and daughter as a Housekeeper and Cook. She worked professionally as a Cook at Flirt Gordon. She never received a formal education, hut was always determined to learn. She taught herself to cook and sew. She enjoyed sewing outfits for her granddaughter, who enjoyed* wearing them as well. Later in life, she did go back to school and received her G.E.D.

Rosa leaves to cherish her precious memory and to celebrate her life: four grandchildren, Kevin, Denise,♦Gedfete.and Ron; four great-grandchildren, Lance, Isaiah, Joseph and Tiara; one brother, Grover Farr, Jr. of East Palo Alto, California; one sister, Mary Robinson of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God saw the road was getting rough And He did what He knew was best.

He put His arms around you,And whispered, “Come home to rest.”

It broke our hearts to lose you,But you did not go alone,

For part of us went with you,The day God called you home.

Lovingly, Your Qranddaughter, Denise Bradley & Your Nephew, John Clanton, Sr. & Wife, Vivian
