A Muskie Tale
Dave Rouse was presented theMuskie tale Award at theMarch meeting. The awad is
given annulaly to the peerson whohas the best story about somethingthat happened in the past season.Dave will keep the award until nextyear when he will present it to the2010 winner. This Muskie Tale wassubmitted on behalf of Dave by others present. Here’s Dave’s story:
It was a cold November day. A
few muskie men had gathered at
one of the rearing ponds to set
trap nets in hopes of harvesting
muskies they had raised all
summer. They knew it would be a
tough day, as they had to set 10
nets with limited help. They had
one job that would require certain
expertise. It involved a canoe.
They had such a man in their
group. He was a hunter, fisher-
man, camper and a canoeist. He
had logged many hours doing each
of those activities, and he
dutifully volunteered for the task
at hand. We will refer to him as
MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN.
As the other muskie men
readied their equipment, the
MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN went to
prepare his position. As the other
muskie men were unloading their
nets, they heard a loud splash. As
they looked toward the location of
the splash, they saw the head of
MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN
protruding through the cattails.
What had happened? As the
muskie men ran to his aid, they
could see water dripping from his
beard. On closer examination,
they could see that MIGHTY
MUSKIE MAN was totally
drenched. Then they saw the canoe
which MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN had
just launched. It was half sub-
merged in the pond.
At this point the other muskie
men broke out in jovial laughter.
The humbled MIGHTY MUSKIE
MAN just stood there looking
dumbfounded, clutching his rather
damp cell phone and wallet.
It was quite a sight, but the
muskie men had to get serious
because MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN
was beginning to turn blue. They
rushed him to the truck where he
was stripped and given warm, dry
clothes. Being the trooper that he
is, the MIGHTY MUSKIE MAN
returned to his canoe, emptied it,
and successfully relaunched it and
finished his duties for the day,
even with wet, soggy boots.
This story is respectfully
submitted by the other muskie
men whose names will remain
anonymous for fear of retaliation.
This is the Muskie Tale of Dave
Rouse – and we are quite sure his
tail is now tucked far between his
legs.
