DAY OF SIXTH-FORM STUDY FOR YEAR 7

YEAR 8 RISE TO THE CHALLENGE AT UoN

EXPLORING THE SCIENCE OF ADAPTATION

For Futures Day 2019, Year 8 visited

the University of Nottingham, one

the UK’s prestigious Russell Group

Universities and Sports and Interna-

tional University of the Year 2019 in

The Times and Sunday Times Univer-

sity Guide. Students had the chance

to tour the campus, get an insight

into university life, explore a range of

subjects and showed brilliant levels

of optimism and curiosity when put

to the test in designing their very

own university—well done everyone! Rising to the challenge: TSS students pitch their proposals

and make the most of their time with the UoN Ambassadors

Fresh from their brilliant visit to

Twycross Zoo last week, Year 7 have

been studying behavioural adapta-

huddling penguins in one of their

lessons this week and showed im-

pressive levels of insight and en-

gagement with scientific enquiry.

For their first ever Futures Day at TSS, Year 7 visited MV16, an outstanding

post-16 centre in Melton Mowbray. In an event that was partly planned by

Year 12s at MV16, Suthers students got a taste of what it’s like to be a sixth

former, heard about possible pathways to success and sampled some A Level

subjects. From uncovering the anatomy of the brain in Psychology, to prob-

lem-solving in Mathematics and performing in Theatre Studies, our students

got first-hand experience of life beyond GCSE and found out just what it takes

to secure a place at university. Our students acquitted themselves brilliantly

and many returned with thoughts already turning to life far beyond KS3...
