A exposição ao maltrato ou negligência pode perturbar o desenvolvimento do cérebro. (National Scientific Council on the Developing Child, 2010).

A pobreza afeta o desenvolvimento das funções executivas (Lipina, Martelli, Vuelta, & Colombo, 2005; Noble, McCandliss, & Farah, 2007),

Qual o impacto do maltrato e negligência no desenvolvimento das funções executivas?

Não sabemos. Crianças maltratadas ou negligentes têm notas

mais baixas nos testes e nos exames, e têm maior probabilidade de chumbar o ano do que as crianças não maltratadas ou negligentes; dos dois grupos, as crianças negligentes apresentam o mais baixo desempenho académico. (Eckenrode, et al., 1993) Qual o papel das funções

executivas nas aprendizagens destas crianças?
