Attorneys for the National Womans par ty a re engaged In drawing up the brief suggested by Secretary Kellogg The brief will cite many laws affecting the use of a womans married name and will take up the whole question in its genera phases as a principle rtttuer than as u personal plea for Miss Black It was explained

The secretary was very courteous and we were much pleased with thy consideration he gave us said Miss Black He had three passport officials In the room with us during the conshyference and he agreed to let me sign my own name with the explanatory-note about my being Mr Litt le s wife after asking their opinion

But I dont think that was much of a concession as I unders tand acshytresses have done that right along

Pure-Ered Cattle Now Going Into Beef

M Ltl of the pure-bred live stock of the country is rinding its way to the dinner table inshystead of being kept on farms

for breeding purposes only the bushyreau of animal industry has found in a survey which reached do farmers In 4fgt s ta tes Answers to questionshynaires sent out by the bureau develshyoped also that the dairy industry Is drawing many pure-bred cat lie

Analysis of the replies the bureao announces has shown that about fgtJ per cent of pure-bred live stock ls_mar-

keted directly for meat purposes swine being s laughtered at the rate of 7ft1 per cent sheep 612(i per cent and ca t t le 41M per cent

The consensus of (lie farmers was that pure-bred meat animals cost slightly less than scrubs to raise to matur i ty while dairy catt le cost slightshyly more

P u r e b r e d animals were declared much more profitable to raise than scrubs and somewhat more so than jrraded stock the degree depending on t h e proportion of pure blood posshysessed by the grades

About iX3 per cent of the fanners who had given the use of pure-bred s i res a trial were found to adhere to the general principle of using them for all classes of stock Improvement of the quality of pure-bred live stock

( by rigid culling and selling only worthy animals for breeding purposes was urged by a number of farmers

The bureau learned that only one half of the pure-bred animals in tin country eligible to registrat ion are acshytually registered Principal reasons given for not registering an imals were intention to sel for s laughter poor individuality little demand for registration papers when stock is sold and carelessness in a t tending to reg istration

The quest ionnaires produced a virshytually unanimous opinion that pureshybred live stock was more profitable than grade and scrub animals with well-bred grades u close second A Nebraska stockman declared he bad found that pure breds are of more uniform type feed out better and more quickly and therefore put on more gain with the same or less feed and In less time

The Importance of color as a cershytification that ca t t le are of the meat breeds was emphasized by a western stockman

Whiteface red roan and black catshytle he said a lways a t t rac t the buyshyers but a brtndle yellow or black-and-white-spotted steer even of good conshyformation finds a less ready gale The buyers know from experience that such Htock will not dress out so well

p lants will he held at Springfield 111 September 10 11 and 12 11)125 under the auspices of the bureau of mines Depar tment of Interior These Intershynat ional First-Aid and Mine-Rescue contes ts a re held annually under the auspices of the bureau of mines with t h e co-operation of the American Nashyt ional Red Cross the National Safety council and various mine opera tors associa t ions and miners organizat ions with the object of furthering the work of t ra in ing miners in first-aid and mine-rescue methods and the conseshyquen t advancement of the cause of safe ty among the million miners of the Uni ted States

T h e first-aid and mine-rescue conshyt e s t s will be for International chamshypionships and in ternat ional contest cups medals and prizes will be awardshyed to the winners Proficiency of conshytes t ing t eams will be determined In accordance with bureau of mines s t a n d a r d s by judges thoroughly familshyia r with first-aid and mine-rescue

Find the right place on the club face for hitt ing the ball Hold the club horizontally with the face up Hold a ball Just above the face and let it drop Near the toe the club sh ivers not responding projgterly Keep testing by dropping the ball on a spot near the middle There will come a time when the ball rebounds firmly Usually this point is near the middle in the direcshytion of the heel Educa te yourself to hit every putt from exactly that spot Bet ter mark the spot by a piece of white surgeons tape on the top of the putter Whenever you have a put ter in your hand pract ice bringing it back and carrying it s t ra ight through at right angles

But there are so many thngs thai the average golfer never seems to learn the shape of a putt ing green for Instance Take a tape 60 feet long and draw an exact circle with the middle of the cup as Its center Now exclude the hazards the bunkers sand traps recognized water hazards bushes path or road Maybe yon will have to consult the local rules before you know what a re or are not hazards Anyway all the ground except hazshyards inside the circle Is the putting green Perhaps not half of It ban been clipped to a putt ing sur nee That makes no difference If there Is a tuft or mound of grass inside the bunker and surrounded by exposed soil that is part of the hazard The grass on the slopes of the bunker or sand-trap and not surrounded by exposed soil is not par t of the hazard The grass on these slopes or on the level of the green may be a foot high but If within the circle it is on the putt ing green You must not sole your club In a hazshyard but you can sole it at will for Inshystance on the grass on a bunker slope

M Ltl of the pure-bred live stock of the country is rinding its way to the dinner table inshystead of being kept on farms

for breeding purposes only the bushyreau of animal industry has found in a survey which reached do farmers In 4fgt s ta tes Answers to questionshynaires sent out by the bureau develshyoped also that the dairy industry Is drawing many pure-bred cat lie

Analysis of the replies the bureao announces has shown that about fgtJ per cent of pure-bred live stock ls_mar-

keted directly for meat purposes swine being s laughtered at the rate of 7ft1 per cent sheep 612(i per cent and ca t t le 41M per cent

The consensus of (lie farmers was that pure-bred meat animals cost slightly less than scrubs to raise to matur i ty while dairy catt le cost slightshyly more

P u r e b r e d animals were declared much more profitable to raise than scrubs and somewhat more so than jrraded stock the degree depending on t h e proportion of pure blood posshysessed by the grades

About iX3 per cent of the fanners who had given the use of pure-bred s i res a trial were found to adhere to the general principle of using them for all classes of stock Improvement of the quality of pure-bred live stock

( by rigid culling and selling only worthy animals for breeding purposes was urged by a number of farmers

The bureau learned that only one half of the pure-bred animals in tin country eligible to registrat ion are acshytually registered Principal reasons given for not registering an imals were intention to sel for s laughter poor individuality little demand for registration papers when stock is sold and carelessness in a t tending to reg istration

The quest ionnaires produced a virshytually unanimous opinion that pureshybred live stock was more profitable than grade and scrub animals with well-bred grades u close second A Nebraska stockman declared he bad found that pure breds are of more uniform type feed out better and more quickly and therefore put on more gain with the same or less feed and In less time

The Importance of color as a cershytification that ca t t le are of the meat breeds was emphasized by a western stockman

Find the right place on the club face for hitt ing the ball Hold the club horizontally with the face up Hold a ball Just above the face and let it drop Near the toe the club sh ivers not responding projgterly Keep testing by dropping the ball on a spot near the middle There will come a time when the ball rebounds firmly Usually this point is near the middle in the direcshytion of the heel Educa te yourself to hit every putt from exactly that spot Bet ter mark the spot by a piece of white surgeons tape on the top of the putter Whenever you have a put ter in your hand pract ice bringing it back and carrying it s t ra ight through at right angles

But there are so many thngs thai the average golfer never seems to learn the shape of a putt ing green for Instance Take a tape 60 feet long and draw an exact circle with the middle of the cup as Its center Now exclude the hazards the bunkers sand traps recognized water hazards bushes path or road Maybe yon will have to consult the local rules before you know what a re or are not hazards Anyway all the ground except hazshyards inside the circle Is the putting green Perhaps not half of It ban been clipped to a putt ing sur nee That makes no difference If there Is a tuft or mound of grass inside the bunker and surrounded by exposed soil that is part of the hazard The grass on the slopes of the bunker or sand-trap and not surrounded by exposed soil is not par t of the hazard The grass on these slopes or on the level of the green may be a foot high but If within the circle it is on the putt ing green You must not sole your club In a hazshyard but you can sole it at will for Inshystance on the grass on a bunker slope

If the yards a re only on one s ide of ihe house it is preferable that they be on the south side in order that t h e birds get the benefit of the dry-ground and the warm sun in the ear ly spring

If the yards are In permanent sod it usually requires from TO to 80 s q u a r e feet for each bird If part of t h e green feed is supplied In other forms half of this amount will be sufficient

Shade of some type is needed in t h e poultry yards Frui t trees a re often used for this purpose If trees a r e not available then some type of a r t i shyficial shade should be supplied

Select the best eggs for hatching Use the mother hen when possible

or hatch early chicks with incubators Care for early hatched baby chicks
