Stress is taking a significant toll on our nation’s mental health

- 29% of 16-24 year olds reported having a mental health disorder in the past 12 months (NZ Mental Health Survey, 2004)

- Nearly half of NZ population meets the criteria for a mental disorder at some point in their lives (Oakley Browne et al., 2006)

- More than half of all adults with mental health problems were diagnosed in childhood (Oakley Browne et al. 2006)

- Depression set to become 2nd leading cause of disability globally by 2020 (WHO)
