Nuns form Dedrol Monastery near Nyelagar

Dedrol Gön (gdeng grol dgon/ gdeng sgrol dgon) is the small nunnery which was founded in front of Dedrol cave (gdeng grol phu), where Atha Lhamo lived. later she attained the Small Rainbow Body

Atha Lhamo (a tha lha mo) was the daughter of Rigdzin Changchub Dorje who attained the small rainbow body ('ja' lus 'pho ba chung ngu) in 1978 in Nyelagar, Kham Eastern Tibet. She was a great practitioner herself and practiced in a cave nearby the religious encampment of her father. As this cave was in the Dedrol area it what known as Dedrol phug (gdeng grol phug/ gdeng sgrol phug).

We are not shure about the spelling and the meaning of the first part of her name. Of corse lhamo means goddess or devi in Sanskrit. atha (a tha) is used synonymous for pa'i sha or the fathers flesh. Thus her name would be The Goddess of the Fathers Flesh.Dzogchen Khenpo Chöga Rinpoche reports that she attained the rainbow body as late as 1982 but according to Chögyal Namkhai Norbu it was in 1980 as he received three independent letters reporting it. This was proofed upon reports he heard when he first returned to Tibet in 1981.

Later, in front of the cave was built a small nunnery, where currently life 66 nuns. The monastery is supported by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's NGO Asia.

Nyala Rinpoche Rigdzin Changchub Dorje aka Rigdzin Changchub Dorje (rig ‘dzin nyag bla byang chub rdo rje; 1826-1961 or 1978) was a great Dzogchen Master, tertön and practitioner of Tibetan medicine. He was born in the Nyarong (nyag rong) region of East Tibet (Kham). Some of the teachers of Rigdzin Changchub Dorje Rinpoche were Adzom Drugpa (1842-1924), Jalüpa Nyala Pema Dündul (1816-1872), and Jalüpa Shardza Tashi Gyaltsen (1859-1935).Nyala Rinpoche organized and lead a community of Dzogchen practitioners in Nyelagar (ngag bla sgar) also known as Khamdogar (khams mdo sgar) in Dedrol (gdeng grol). This area is in 'jo rdzong, the modern administrative unit Gonjo County (go 'jo) area. In 1978 he is said to have attained rainbow body. Born in 1826 he lived for 152 years.

The community was a chögar (chos sgar) or Spiritual encampment, where monks and yogic practitioners and ngagpas lived together in tents and houses. Rigdzin Changchub Dorje had a also daughter called known as Atha Lhamo. Later on a nunnery was built near his place. This was the only building which was destroyed by the Chinese. It is communicated that he attained the small rainbow body in 1978 where his body shrunk to a size of a five year old boy.Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche (b.1938) is his 'heart-son' or principal disciple. Others are Lama Wangdor of Tso Pema or Rewalsar, India.Changchub Dorje was quite prolific and left behind a legacy of about 60 books, spanning in content from Tibetan Buddhism to traditional Tibetan medicine and astrology. །།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།།Atha Lhamo who attained the Rainbow Body
