BOB-AIT Co-Primary Case Study

AIT Overview: Global transportation and logistics provider spanning 37 international locations, over 190 global service centers and $231 million in 2009 sales. AIT Worldwide Logistics designs tailored transportation solutions by ground, air, ocean and rail for the unique applications and delivery service requirements for customers across the globe.

The Challenge: Build a redundant IP network to ensure world-class performance and customer service.

“Networks are more critical to our business than ever before,” said Dan Chesler, Manager of Systems Administration and Support for AIT Worldwide Logistics. “Providing reliable and consistently available applications helps AIT to build and sustain our customer relationships; even a single service problem can make AIT appear less competitive so we cannot afford to lose connectivity for any reason.” AIT often experienced localized outages as well as inadequate bandwidth from its T1 and T3 leased lines due to spikes in usage. Since AIT’s Internet service was routed through a large number of network hops, customers and employees – especially overseas – were experiencing serious delays as they interacted with AIT’s website. To avoid unfavorable comparison against competitors, AIT required a more direct route to the Internet to enable faster, more positive customer experiences with its online resources.

BOB-AIT Co-Primary Case Study (cont.)The Solution: Connectivity with Business Only Broadband and its Fixed Wireless Broadband Metro Ethernet Network. AIT partnered with BOB to utilize BOB’s Co-Primary network solution to provide high-speed, diverse Internet access for its employees and customers. In addition BOB worked with AIT to configure Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routing, providing AIT with the most expedient route to the Internet, assuring excellent quality of service and automatic failover of less than a millisecond. “BOB provides a higher degree of reliability with better key performance metrics and better response times than our fiber optic carrier,” said Chesler. The Result: improved customer service, flexibility and cost effectiveness.

Customers have noticed the difference; they now enjoy continuous connectivity and throughput that significantly improved their experience, which leads to stronger customer relationships. In addition the Co-Primary network offers significant advantages in deployment flexibility and cost savings. When AIT previously required additional bandwidth, negotiations for new service level agreements were both time and resource-draining as well as expensive. With BOB, additional bandwidth can be provided in hours or less. Delivery time issues are also crucial, where it might take up to18 months to deploy new fiber, BOB wireless service can be up and running in a matter of days.“Business Only Broadband and its fixed wireless connectivity to the Internet are far superior to anything I’ve ever dealt with in the wireless realm,” said Chesler.
