"As a student at a liberal arts college it is difficult to knowwhat an art focused life looks like. I found that

throughapprenticeship, I had the opportunity to have a full

immersion experience. My internship opened the door tofocused conversation of thinking and making in the studio ofan artist deeply engaged in contemporaryconversations around art. I learned skills as they wereimmediately appliedto work that entered museumsand galleries in New York and internationally. I got a senseof the discipline requiredto make art in a serious way. I alsogot to meet many otherartists in the community and wasgiven an inside look at the range of work being made in NewYork. This experienceled me to taking on interns of my ownnow that I am apracticing artist. I am so happy to continue tobe a part ofthis program." -Corin Hewitt

I think I am more confident in my work and can

apply this to other areas of academia. The program

has made it more clear to me how the art worldoperates and how to attempt to get your work out

there, as well as the jobs that are available and how

    artists survive.

    Caitlin, Earlham College

"From my internship experiences in graphic design I have learned the

steps it takes to work with a client, to listen to their business

concepts, ideas, methods of communication, and transform it into a

creative product. I have learned to use design software in a

professional manner. The internship showed me that there is so much

more to learn after college about the real world of business methods

    and standards. Chris, OWU

"When I was in college, like most students, I was trying to make sense of my

passions and practices in a way that I could bring them out into the world.

I traveled to Italy, took all sorts of jobs but it wasn't until my semester in

New York with the New York Arts Program that things finally came

together. Through my internships and experiences, which remain the most

valuable of my college career, I saw how one could integrate a passion for

art with everyday life, the struggles this presents, and the drive and

dedication it takes to make a life of meaning inside a field I love.
