Some scenes absolutely demand extremely accurate AF

performance, and that’s when you can make the best use

of the NX1’s wide coverage. It boasts an industry-leadingnumber of 205 phase detection points and 209 contrast

detection points that are spread across the sensor evenly

covering entire imaging area. Furthermore, the sensor was

enhanced with a total of 153 cross-type AF points covering

wide area horizontally and vertically. That means that you

can always track and hold focus on your target whether it

is in the center of the frame or at the edges. So you are

When shooting videos, the NX1 takes advantage of thewide phase detection AF points and contrast AF to track

center or moving fast.

Most of DSLRs can’t shoot video using phase detection

AF because they have to shoot with their mirror up,

meaning that the sensor is unable to engage in the

process. And contrast detection AF is problematic

because the lens is unable to predict the movement

and overcompensation as the camera struggles to

videos. As a compact system camera, however, the

NX1 is able to use phase detection AF when shooting

sharper videos.
