- Case and Pallet fill (Project POP)

- Network change (centralise distn,

co-packing and reduced o/s)

- Reduce empty running (back haul & transport collaboration)

• Friendlier miles (reduce CO2 for same miles)

eg – Improve fuel economy

- Euro V engines

- Increased use of bio diesel

TRANSPORT AGENDA SITE AGENDA

Environmental Programme

• Between 2006 and 2008

- Transported miles have reduced by 2.7m.

- CO2 reduction of 20.5% (4,700 tonnes).

• Submitted paper to Motor Transport 2008 awards

- Short-listed in both categories entered.

• Programme includes many initiatives and these have been been well publicised by IGD and FDF.

• Bio diesel- All UB vehicles now operating on 10% bio-diesel.- Transport providers also moved onto 10% sourced from same fuel supplier.- Combined fleets of 160 tractor units.- Annual diesel consumption 6.1m litres i.e. 610k litres of bio-diesel.- UB generated 770 tonnes of waste vegetable oil last year – 620k litres when converted to bio.- United Biscuits are therefore using all its waste vegetable oils as bio-diesel.

• Environmental impact of change.- CO2 reduction of 1,400 tonnes – 6% saving -equivalent of saving 1.04m miles.
