Augustus / August 2018

1) Personeelaangeleenthede

1.1 Mnr. F. du Preez is op siekverlof.

1.2 Die vakante departementshoofposte is in die nuutste vakaturelys. Aanstellings sal

geld vanaf 1 Januarie 2019.

2 ) Verskil tussen SBA en PAT.

2.1 SBA (School Based Assessment)

soeke wees.

This is a practical task, besides the SBA, that must be done.

If, for example, a learner obtains 70/100 for PAT he/she only has to obtain 50 marks

out of the remaining 300 marks. Unfortunately learners do not take PAT

seriously and teachers struggle to get learners to complete all their PAT phases.

3) Skoolbywoning

The school’s sport and culture buses, is a service the school provides and is not financed by

the transport department. This service makes it possible for learners to do sport and culture

and to attend extra classes.

5) Neatness is part of / Netheid is deel van:

a) Netheid en dissipline is ‘n belangrike deel van opvoeding.

b) ouers en onderwysers se verantwoordelikheid.

The code of conduct, including the neatness rules, is available at the school and the

learn ers know the rules very well. Parents must see to it that their children meet the neat=

ness requirements of the school.

7) Sport

9) Parent involvement / Ouerbetrokkenheid

Parent involvement is of utmost importance to your child. Your child needs to

know that you support him/her whatever his/her performance. Parents must be

part of their children’s lives and there should be open communication so that

children will feel free to discuss anything with their parents .

Neatness continues...

We send sms messages to the parents before the school re-opens to remind them of the neat-

ness requirements. Unfortunately it still happens that learners come to school after the holiday

with coloured hair or hair that is too long. We urge parents to take this matter more seriously.

Page 3: Nuus / News · 7) Sport Die sportseisoen staan einde se kant toe. Hulle was altyd netjies

11. SKOOLGELD / SCHOOL FEES

doen nie / Should you experience difficulty paying school fees, please come see

me. before the account goes to the debt collectors. After the account has been

handed over, there is nothing the school can do to help.

need in our community so that they can continue doing charity work when they leave

school.

Public Speaking

On the 23rd of August 2018, four of our learners competed in the Brebner High School

Public Speaking competition.

As always, our learners were extremely well prepared and represented our school with

pride and excellence.

Karabo Ramosedi, grade 12, won the senior division with an end score of 98%. Zimi

Faku, grade 12 and Davian Weimers, grade 11 both achieved 93%, while Veliswa Black

in grade 8 scored 86%.

It is always a pleasure to see our learners in action, as they speak with passion and

great enthusiasm.

SOCIAL SUPPORT SERVICES

The Social Support Services will continue to care for the learners of High School

Bloemfontein regardless of challenges they face. This term, they once again con-

tinued to provide professional services to learners who needed support.

This was achieved as a result of strengthening the team as follows.

Every Tuesday the Psychology students come to school and have sessions with

learners.

Two 4th year Student Social Workers are available on a daily basis to assist the

learners so that each learner is provided ample opportunity to get the help

they need.

Six 3rd year Social Worker Students also come on Thursdays to assist our

learners.

Furthermore, on 08 August 2018 the learners were requested to donate canned

food. This project is launched to collect non-perishable food items to give to learn-

ers in need. It is with grateful hearts that we thank all the learners and educators

WHO donated food. We believe that if we continue to give like this, no learner in

our school will go to bed hungry.

We pledge to continue to provide a selfless and professional

service to all the learners of High School Bloemfontein as we

continue to “Strive Higher”

Kultuuraande 2018 / Culture evenings 2018

The Lion King was a hit. So many people gave us wonderful feed-

back on our culture evenings that took place on 16 and 17 August

2018.

JBS - 2018

To the school at large, but most importantly to the matrics: this is the last hurdle.

What you decide to do with your time today, is going to shape your future the

way you desire. A wise man once said, "good things don't come cheap", I truly

understand what he meant by that.

Studying is not nice, period. But we all want good things in life, and in order to

acquire these good things, we have to get out of our comfort zones and do the

one thing we dread, study.

NUUS

JIK

This month, JIK focused on relationships and discipleship focussed month for JIK, in the

LO classes. We talked about 3 basic themes: 1. How Everyone needs salvation from

sins. 2. How God provides that salvation. 3. What the proper response to this gospel of

salvation is.

The material we are using for these classes, is a booklet by Everynations Church called:

One 2 one discipleship.

We are truly blessed to be able to impact the school and the education system in this way

by giving learners open access to a deeper understanding of faith.

FEEDBACK ON THE VISIT TO NAVALSIG POLICE STATION

The Grade 9 RCL members attended an event at Navalsig Police Station on

31/07/2018. The purpose of the event was to select Junior top management for the

Station. Learners had to prepare a presentation on Bullying or Drug Abuse and pre-

sent it to the panel.

Our learners represented the school very well as the following learners were chosen

to be part of this Junior Top Management:

1. Megan Geduld : Additional member on the committee

2. Ontiretse Bophalamo : Additional member on the committee

3. Mosa Nthejane : Junior VISPOL Commander with rank of Captain

4. Caslyn Crotz : Junior Support Head with rank of Captain

Well done, you made us proud !

SPORT

The ‘Sports’ term has come

to an end. Our sport teams

have done well in their re-

spective leagues as report-

ed in previous newsletters.

A word of thanks to all our

learners and coaches for a

job WELL DONE !

Soccer

We are proud of the soccer boys

this year. They participated in various

leagues and did well. It was the first

year that we played such a lot of

matches. The new kit of the first team is

beautiful and our boys were always neat

on the fields. Thank you for the support.

Also a word of thanks to our coaches for

being loyal and hard working.
