Why is nutrition important for our bodies? And what foods are necessary for our diet?

Answers• Without the proper foods, our bodies would not be

able to function. We wouldn't be able to live.

• If you eat the right foods, you'll be able to prevent harmful diseases

• We get the energy to start the day from our food.

• You would never be able to plays sports, play so your friends and have fun, without a nutritional diet.

Where do the things we need come from?

• Milk and cheese gives a great source of calcium, which helps your bones grow strong.

• Many fresh fruits and vegetables such as oranges and broccoli gives you lots of vitamin c which help's you heal cuts and burns.

• Beans give us a great amount of fiber, which helps us go to the bathroom.

• Most foods from animals such as fish, chicken, eggs, beef, cheese, yogurts, and plants give us lots of protein which enables us to grow and repair damages.

Did you know that there are BAD fats and GOOD fats?

There are three main kinds of fat:

•Unsaturated fat- this fat is the natural and healthy fat. Our body need 65 grams of this fat a day. •Saturated fat- this fat isn't so great for you. You should have a limit of only 20 grams of this fat. •Trans fat- this is the worst fat of them all. It's very artificial and unhealthy. There is no need for any of this fat.

How do you figure out how much unsaturated fat is in a food?

You look at the nutrition label and subtract the

trans fat and saturated fat from the total fat

Carbohydrates• Carbohydrates is are our main source of energy to get

us ready for an active day.

• There are three different types of carbs: Sugar, starch, and fiber.

• Cereals, bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and corn are good sources of carbohydrates.

• These foods also give us lots of vitamins which we will learn about next.

Vitamins and Minerals• Vitamins act as little helpers in our body.

• There are a variety of vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin B, and minerals such as iron, sodium.

• Vitamin A - keeps your skin and eyes healthy and your skin moist. It comes from peppers, broccoli, pumpkin and kale.

• Vitamin B - breaks down the energy from food and helps us build new cells and tissues. It comes from eggs, fish, liver, chicken and whole grain foods.

• Iron - makes us strong. Without iron our muscles and organs wouldn't work in a proper fashion. It come from eggs, beef, chicken, turkey.

• Sodium - it help style outside and inside of cells. Sodium comes form salty foods.
