Post pregnancy weight loss is one of the biggest concerns of a new mother. It is not uncommon for us to find women constantly struggling with weight loss after delivery. Many women feel that their bodies have changed after pregnancy, and blame the excess weight and flab to the hormonal changes that pregnancy has brought to them. While it is true that weight gain after pregnancy is genetic, we must not forget that our lifestyle and diet play a big role in determining our weight too. Here are some tips for healthy weight loss after childbirth:

Ÿ Firstly, don’t stress about losing weight. It is normal and natural to put on weight during pregnancy, and that stays for a few months after delivery. One should not be blinded by celebrity weight-loss stories where new moms come back to their pre-pregnancy size within a few weeks after delivery.

Ÿ Watch what you eat. Dieting is not a healthy way to lose weight, but controlled eating is. Say NO to processed food like pizza, burgers, Maggi, and fr ied food. Avoid carbonated drinks and sugary health drinks, no matter what they claim. Include more raw vegetables and fruits in your diet. For snacking, replace namkeen and biscuits with dry fruits, salads and soups.

Ÿ Include at least 30 minutes of daily walk in your routine. The body needs to work out in order to remain healthy. Start mild exercises and yoga as soon as the doctor declares you fit enough

Ÿ Change your habits. Take stairs instead of taking the elevator, eat dinner a bit early, drink more water during the day, adopt “early to bed and early to rise”, and quit smoking and alcohol intake.

Ÿ Get regular health check-up done in o rde r t o t r a c k b l ood s ug a r, haemoglobin and thyroid functions.

Having said all that, I must stress that every person has a different metabolism. What works for one person may or may not work for the other. Love your body, love yourself and strive for fitness, not being skinny.

The best example of the Sattvik sounds is the Sound of the ringing bells in the temples and churches. These bells are

There are different types of Sounds:

Sounds that bring peace within and transform lives: These are sounds named as Sattvik Sounds - the Sounds that expand our consciousness.

Sounds that uplift mood and initiate the urge of doing something for self: These are sounds named as Rajasic sounds - Sounds that are inclined towards physical aspect of life.

Sound that lower our energies, bring anger, impurity: These are sounds named as Tamasic Sounds.

Our innate need is to raise ourselves from lower to higher vibration, from Tamas to Sattvik to merge with the One.

made of Kansa. Kansa is a metal made up of Copper and Tin with few other metals. Specific use of Copper and Tin is because Copper resonates with the frequency of Love and Tin resonates with the Frequency of Wisdom. Kansa is the best medium that helps raise one's energy to love and wisdom to experience pure oneness.

Today, this form of sound is available to us in the form of SOUND HEALING.

Sound Healing is one such unique modality through which the vibrations of the singing bowls entrain deep inside the body, releasing toxins by the process of detoxification. Releasing of stress happens by default and the person experiencing sound healing feels lighter and peaceful from within post the session. Each session goes on for about an hour in which the bowls are kept on and around the body and the Certified Sound Hea ler p lays the bowls masterfully bringing harmony not only in the sounds but also within his own awareness.

GET READY TO UNSKOOLmagine a place where you wake up to Ichirping of birds, sticky licks and warm cuddles of your favourite pets.

A place where there is no restriction to gain knowledge of your choice. A place where you make friends not just with people but also with animals and nature. A place where you discover yourself and your surroundings, at your own pace.

Taking inspiration from my childhood and children who have been a part of my life from past 7 years, I wish to start Unskool, a place where no child is ahead or behind, each one will be well appreciated for being wonderfully unique.

I would want to be close to Unskoolnature as I believe, it is only nature that

can teach us the greatest virtues of life – selflessness and compassion, the much needed virtues in today’s world.

Unskool will run various developmental programmes for children in the age group of 1.5 years to 12 years that aims at overall character development of a child. modules are open Unskoolended , hav ing the e s sence o f performing arts, magic of sound,

emotive potential, power of expression, story-telling and physical awareness.

Currently, is having a tough Unskooltime finding a decent space in Mulund, Mumbai to start operating in its full form. Hence, conducts Unskoolworkshops in about any place where there are kids – schools, residential societies, parks, dance studios.

Children are our future. Let them not be a part of the rat race we have been in and run aimlessly. Let’s real ise and understand that it is ok to be slow, perfect to be different, good to have less, healthy to eat fresh and cool to bring smile to others. Let the children bloom with full freedom and be emotionally independent and diligent care takers of our mother Earth.

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.”

This is the perception I grew up with, thanks to my father, who not only believed in equality

between the genders, but worked in society to ensure women’s education and fought against discrimination.

Father is a role model for every daughter, and I am no exception. In junior college, I opted for vocational subject, wanting to become engineer. That was my first experience, being thrown in to world of boys. The journey further kept throwing me in male dominated fields; I chose to be chemical engineer, with just 3 girls and 60 boys.

I j o i n e d f a m i l y b u s i n e s s o f manufacturing Industrial Fragrances recognised as Mohini Agency, a business established in Mumbai by my great grandfather in 1911. Having spent 5 years, in factory, I decided to spend a year in perfumery school in France, the Mecca of Perfumery. I had experience of working on latest analytical equipments having got opportunity to work in Laboratory supported by Chanel.

I took over complete responsibility of

my company while my father was elected as the President of all India based apex body of Fragrances and Flavours Association of India (FAFAI, formed in 1948).

I was inducted in the committee of FAFAI, the First Women and the only woman to be in committee. In the years to follow, I worked in different capacities in the Association, Fragrance Technical committee Chairperson, regional Secretary, on the editorial board of the Journal and then as Hon. Secretary, Vice President.

In 2015, I went on to become the First Female President of the esteemed Association of 67 years.

Not that I never had any failure, resistance or evil people around, I was no exception to gossip, nor escaped indicative eyes of orthodox. The key to success is to ignore the pessimists and always be surrounded by people who encourage.

et’s talk about taking a boat ride Lon the Ganges river in Varanasi. What do you imagine when you

think of it? Most people may not want to imagine the boat ride to save their minds from the filth at the Ganga Ghats in Varanasi. But in case you want to, the pristine beauty of Prabhu Ghat in Varanasi will captivate your mind with this story.

It all started when two young women Temsutula Imsong and Darshika Shah, made it their mission to clean Prabhu Ghat and Babua Pandey Ghat in Varanasi. Temsutula trembled with anger on the night after her casual boat ride at Varanasi’s Prabhu Ghat.

The amount of filth and garbage made her angry at the utter neglect and disrespect for the environment. But she was not one of those to just feel sorry for something and forget it. Temsutula along with her friend Darshika returned to the ghat a month later with volunteers and cleaning equipment. She asked locals of Varanasi to join them. The mission was mocked by several locales

who demotivated them. Small children playing at the ghats enthusiastically joined the team and even garnered support from the locales by saying “Swachch Bharat Abhiyan ke liye aaye hai!”

The team named their mission as Mission Prabhu Ghat. The mission was spread over 3 days starting on March 18th, 2015. The first day began with dousing the entire area with bleach. On the second day, the team collected more than 300kg of waste. The ghat which was not cleaned for 30+ years was pristine clean on the 3rd day of this mission.

#MissionPrabhughat the hashtag reached more than 29 lakh unique accounts on Twitter and received an amazing response on social media. The team kept tweeting every update of this mission for 3 continuous days and people all over the world encouraged them to raise the bar.

Music Activates Both Hemispheres of the Brain

Children develop systematically along five domains: speech / language, fine motor, gross motor, cognition and social skills.

Not only is music a success oriented and engaging means of addressing these skill areas, music drives neuroplasticity by pairing non-musical skills with music. This engages multiple systems of the bra in in synchrony and fosters c ommun i c a t i o n b e tween bo t h hemispheres.

What does all of this mean for your preschooler? It means that not only is a child that sings “a happy child” they are also busy learning, practicing, and assimilating new information and skills.

HOW MUSIC MAKESCHILDREN SMARTER?

WHY IS EVERYONEGOING THE PILATES WAY?

usic has incredible benefits Mfor children! I have found music to be one of the most

powerful ways to teach children, and there is a scientific reason behind it. Brain research shows us that music makes children smarter.

Early childhood research that tells us that musical foundations can change a child’s brain in ways that will benefit them for a lifetime.

It is in the first three years of life that a child is forming the brain connections that will lay the foundation for the speech/language, motor, and cognitive skills they will use for years to come.

As a child sings, dances, and plays instruments, research indicates that they are building pathways in the brain that will benefit them for a lifetime.

Through that magical world of play, our little ones begin to learn and assimilate information about themselves and the world. Providing a rich and varied musical environment for a child not only enhances their musical tastes and exploration, but also these playful, engaging musical experiences can facilitate life-changing skill acquisition.

ow many times have you tried Hto lift a heavy suitcase or cylinder and felt a sudden

aching pain in your back. It happens to all of us at some instance. The reason is not because it’s too heavy but because a muscle called transverse abdominis that surrounds ones stomach and back like a lumbar belt isn’t strong enough. To strengthen this muscle one has to begin with activating it which requires a certain amount of mental and physical control over the body .

This is where Pilates comes into picture. It targets one’s core muscles , guts and back muscles like no other type of exercise has ever done . It strengthens the core and eventually changes the body type of the person in just about 30 sessions . It emphasizes on movement precision and indulges the smallest m u s c l e s w h i c h a r e o t h e r w i s e conveniently ignored during exercises . The exercises are usually done in a specific order ; one right after another in a continuous format .The idea is to build strong lean muscle bulk and increase overall body awareness.

If performed under the supervision of right guidance it also provides relief from any kind of back pain that an individual is suffering from a long period

s we talk about business, the Aold system of men being the bread winner and women

taking care of the household seems to fade. The scenario which persisted among humans, allowing only the men to be the head of the house seems to be changing. The current evolution of roles def ine equal opportunit ies and responsibilities for both, men and women.

With the opportunities available and accessible, women have taken up on themselves not only to prove that they are no less than the male counterparts but to have taken up some activity to

prove themselves. Every passing day we hear about the success stories which inspire and bring out the best in everyone.

Leading examples of women in business in India would include Ms. Chitra Ramkrishna, MD & CEO, National

S t o c k E x c h a n g e ; M s . A a r t h i Subramanian, Executive Director, TCS; Ms. Alice G. Vaidyan, CMD, General Insurance Corporation of India; Ms. Anita Dongre, Founder, House of Anita Dongre; Ms. Anita Kapur, Member, COMPAT; Ms. Apur va Purohit , President, Jagran Group; Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India; Ms. Ashu Suyash, MD & CEO, Crisi l, to name a few. All these leading ladies not only managed their house but also led an efficient team at work. They have

brought about changes that not only benefited them and organisation but the society as a whole.

Another aspect to the bread winning is being an entrepreneur. Government of India has introduced various subsidies to encourage women entreprenerurship which may include, to name a few, Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development (TREAD), Bharatiya Mahila Bank, Mahila Udayam Nidhi etc.Let us all take a moment and appreciate all the hard work and efforts put in by not just women in business but also the ones who at home, take care of all the needs and bring out the best in us!

WOMEN EDUCATION

family decision are denied.

There is another aspect to the education of girls with the increasing dowry problems in the society the parents of female children believe in educating their child. But like with every rose there comes a thorn, the selfish people of the society try to exploit the situation seeing it as double salary source. There I feel comes the need of educating the girls more of their laws and they themselves behav ing more educa ted than knowledgeable.

The changing times have definitely seen an improvement in the girl’s education and their status in the society. Somewhere down the line girls should be given a choice to study, as much they want to and let them decide their life. I see women education as clear indicator of a country’s progress. Educate the mother and the whole family is educated.

ducation is a very important part Eof life. It gives us a confidence of being what we are. Gets us new

opportunities in life and the wonderful part is it makes us more human. Then why should higher education be only imparted to boys? We usually see it as a source to get employed and hence we associate it with boys. We usually hear old people saying what is the need to educate the girl child; she will sit at home and do housework.

It is also not uncommon to hear some people saying that it is not good for girls to study a lot after school, because if she is educated more, she will not get married easily. In the not-very-old times we could see girl child being short of basic education even if she was capable of doing better than her male counter-parts. Slowly, with the changing times, girls have started to get basic education, but still her rights to have a say in the

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER

eauty is just a perception. Beauty Bis seen in darkness and the pain enhances it. Unrealized dreams,

unmet desires and unrequited love always have a beautiful tale to tell and thus emit boundless beauty. Every scar holds within an untold story of hurt yet the very same scars reflect strength.

Perfect eyes with winged eyeliner are no match to the eyes welled up with tears. An invisible string connects every tear with heart. It takes a fearless to let those tears out to see the beautiful world. Attractive as it appears, the blithely u n c o n c e r n e d a t t i t u d e a l w a y s camouflages the dark side of the persona. The deep dark secret that is hidden in every heart is unique hence beautiful.

Beauty is in human errors. Walking on thin ice may be risky but only the courageous can dare to slip…. and trip in love. Beauty in uncertainty, addiction in sadness and mysterious fascination in ignorance can not go unnoticed. Getting engrossed in the beauty of solitude is liberating.

Decisions are always right, just the situations vary. Yesterday’s right decision may be today’s wrong resolution. This beautiful complicated human of present is simply a derivation of decisions made in the past. And who says chaos is not beautiful? Beauty is all about celebrating imperfections.

sther was a Jew from the tribe of EBenjamin who grew up in exile in Pe r s i a . He r s to r y comes

historically from the Persian Empire of the 4th century BC. It is about the salvation of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day”. The tale of this woman, her intelligence, her moral strength gives us women the belief that we can overcome bad things even if life or future is seemingly difficult.

Esther was the niece of Mordechai, who had been carried into exile from Jerusalem by the king of Babylon, whose minister Haman was against Jews, and wanted to kill them all. Esther was chosen by the King to be his queen, and she didn’t divulge that she was Jewish. She organized a feast for the King and Haman, where she unveiled the truth telling him that she was Jewish and also the plot of Haman willing to destroy and

annihilate all the Jews. Upon knowing the truth, the king punished Haman, and appointed Mordechai as his Prime Minister. Hence, Esther saved the Jews.

Her life teaches us several vital lessons:Ÿ There is a preparation t ime.

She allowed herself to be prepared for the task. One should not decide things in haste.

Ÿ We need the favour of God, believing that it will come. Esther found favour with the King and so did Mordecai. Her strength came from her belief in God.

Ÿ God works in his own time and season. Esther got her timing right.

Ÿ Your background should not hinder your good deeds. Esther was an orphan. Your background does not determine what God can do with you. Your faith does.

A brand new concept of independent woman

Is nothing but old wine in a a new bottle.

"Look at the way she walks, look at the way she talks" they say

"And why does she behave like a super model?"

They ought to be confined to household chores

They must not be allowed to go beyond their shore

Leaving parents and settling outside is a guy thing

And not a hobby for the women to explore!

Oh and don't tell me that they smoke and they drink

I really don't know what they sometimes think,

Their eyes should go down at the sight of men

But these women stare at them without a blink!

To every statement of men, they retortDemanding respect despite wearing

shortsEven small townies talk about dragging

people to courtThey know their rights and are well

aware about torts

Who gave them the right to retaliate back?

Oh come on "They're women", cut me some slack!

"They have their ways of getting on top without knowing jack”

Seeing success of a woman, why are these men taken aback?

It takes a lot of courage to leave your comfort zone

Strangers staring vivaciously while you're walking alone

The world's waiting to point fingers at you

Like an emperor whom the subjects want to dethrone

Who gives anyone the right to judge someone,

Minding one's own business doesn't cost much I guess?

"Hats off women, more power to you" I say

"To the guys who still think otherwise, God bless!"

GARDENING - YOU CAN!

beings that need food, water, air and sun. Find out what they need. What kind of manure? How much water? Sun or shade? Season? Indoor or outdoor? It is not too difficult – with the advent of the Internet, we have all information in our palms. Give your plants the suitable conditions, and let nature take its course.

Another cardinal requirement – PATIENCE. Be patient. It’s not instant gratification and maybe that’s a good thing for us in this day and age. Give Mother Nature time. The best things in life are those that are earned and patiently waited for.

Mother Nature is beautiful and omnipotent – She can and will exist without our help. We can only bring some of Her beauty home. We need to nurture Her and She will bless us just like a mother.

ost people think of gardening Mas something you have to be blessed with – “Green

Thumb”. Most of us think we’re not blessed and we end up staying miles away from plants and keep on envying other peoples’ pretty gardens. I was one of those too – until I just took the plunge! I got plants and learned about them and managed not to kill them. Suddenly my thumb had turned green! Yes, it is that easy.

Gardening is not very hard work. It’s an investment. It is, in fact, one of the most relaxing and rewarding activities. It is the miracle of life happening in front of your eyes! A tiny seed gives birth to a massive tree which will in turn produce thousands of seeds over its lifetime of decades. What could you come up with to rival that?

All you need is – EMPATHY. Your plants are not show-pieces. They are living

unny is how our ‘Society’ is. FDedicated on passing unsolicited opinions on matters, is how they

roll. Before showering the un-required suggestions, un-wanted show of concern, un-needed views on situations, the ‘society’ should fathom the fact that the scenarios they come across and freely judge upon, are the ones that are chosen to be visible to them by other people.

The grounds on which other individuals are classified as ‘correct / incorrect’, is the idea I am focussing on. Morals and Values are ideologies on which people can have same, a slightly different, or a radically contrasting point of view, so basing one’s principles on another’s followed by terming the individual as ‘Good or Bad’ or the acts executed as ‘Right or Wrong’ is practically groundless.

Talking about principles, it is impossible to not mention those hackneyed thoughts that are still the base of many tags, the supposed ‘Rights and Wrongs’, given to people by people! Let me throw some light on few examples here:

Ÿ To wear fashionable clothes or short clothes - WrongTo wear something that covers you from top to bottom - Right

Ÿ A profession that requires open mindedness and courage to take up (Acting in a “bold” movie) - WrongA profession too relatable by general public (Doctor / Engineer) – Right

Ÿ Drinking any hard drink, even though in limited amount - WrongDrinking anything other than hard drink - Right

Ÿ Hanging out or is being friendly with the opposite gender - WrongBeing at home / friends with same gender or being an introvert - Right

These are the thoughts behind the development of social norms that had been, have been and will be followed unless a simple notion is introduced and that is to ‘Live and Let live’. If an action carried out by someone isn’t harming the public or the law, quit judging and respect their choice. Let’s practice on spending our lives in PEACE.
