Journal Article Updates (eToCs) Why not consider signing up to electronic Table of Contents (eToCs) alerts to the journals of your choice? This means that each time a new journal issue is published, a table of contents is sent to you by email. You will have free access to article abstracts (where provided). Electronic Table of Contents are another excellent way to keep up to date with developments in your subject and in general healthcare. They are a quick and easy way to scan n ewly published literature. To sign up to the journal alerts of your choice, please contact the library. We currently register for hundreds of journal alerts and will forward the electronic Table of Contents to the email address of your choice. We will inform you in each email whether you have full-text access to the articles and we will also ensure that it is easy for you to cancel the alerts from journals that you do not find useful.

Using Google to base your decisions at work is not enough.

It is important that when you are looking for evide nce, you search a wide-range of quality-assured sources in a n effective

and efficient way.

Choose from a selection of eight specialised databases, including AMED, British Nursing Index (BNI), EMBASE, Health Business Elite, Medline, CINAHL, Health Management Information Consortium (HMIC) and PsycINFO. “You can search the available healthcare databases to: • find specific information on a topic or combination of topics • answer a clinical query • find work by a particular author • search or browse a particular journal.” A very clear and user-friendly guide is available at: http://www.library.nhs.uk/nlhdocs/HCDguide2008_20_08.doc

Tutorial EEHIST (East of England Healthcare Information Skills Trainers) have created two online tutorials to guide you through the advanced search and ensure that you are able to make the most of your search. Go to http://www.eel.nhs.uk/eel/elearning.htm. These should not take more than 30 minutes to complete.
