NEWS TO SHARE Winter 2013

2013 ASPAN National Conference The ASPAN Annual Conference will be here before we know it and we’re looking forward to seeing you! Be sure to stop by our new ABPANC Exhibit Booth for the latest information about becoming CPAN and/or CAPA certified and recertified, to pick up CPAN and CAPA ribbons and buttons, purchase certification-related products (many of them are new), and learn about volunteer opportunities with ABPANC. Also, register early for the CPAN/CAPA Celebration Luncheon to be held on Monday April 15 from 12:15-2:15 pm – seating is limited!

Consider this lecture: “The Benefits and Value of Being CPAN® and CAPA® Certified: What Employers Can Do to Recognize and Support Certified Staff.” This presentation will focus on best practices employers use across the country to recognize and support certified nursing staff. In addition, research studies identifying the value placed on nursing certification will be discussed as well as strategies for effectively promoting the value of certification. One contact hour.

Visit www.aspan.org to register for these events and review other programs offered at annual conference.

Recertification Information The recertification process is done completely online. Those individuals due for recertification should read the Recertification Handbook (www.cpancapa.org > Recertification). Instructions will be provided in the First Renewal Notice, sent to certificants in December (for the Spring recertification cycle) and July (for the Fall recertification cycle).

• Certificants can create a user account anytime by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Create User Account link found on the Home Page under Recertification.

• Certificants can log in and track their contact hours in the new electronic filing cabinet, update their contact information, receive emails from ABPANC, and complete the recertification process.

• Certificants can enter their contact hours as they earn them by visiting the ABPANC website and clicking the Continual Learning Log link found on the Recertification page.

Tip: At the time of your recertification, after you complete the Continual Learning Online Log, if you wish to keep a copy, please print the document for your files. Once you successfully recertify, the Log is erased so that you can start a new one.
