Annual Hunger Hike SUNDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2016

Victor Ashe Park Picnic Shelter

4901 Bradshaw Rd., Knoxville, TN 37912 Registration: 2:00 P.M. Hike Starts: 2:30 P.M.

Hunger Hike is a symbolic fun walk in support of raising awareness of hun-ger and support organizations who seek to eliminate it in East Tennessee. Representatives from local pantries and churches recruit participants who pledge money to participate in a 1+ mile walk on behalf of those in need. Participants raising at least $15 are given a commemorative item and are entered for a chance to win one of the available prize packages. The dead-line to register is September 16th.

If you are interested in participating, please call the office or see Jimbo.

Our Goal: $4,200

Theme: It’s Personal! Reach. Connect. Give.

Week of Prayer Dates: September 11-18

Scripture: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” Romans 10:14-15 NIV

The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions is a child coming to Christ through Journey Camps. It’s English being taught to someone from an-other country and sharing Jesus with them in the process. It’s some of the poorest people in America receiving physical help and the gospel. It’s a boy at a youth detention facility being saved and baptized. And so much more!

Your contribution to The Golden Offering for Tennessee Missions pro-vides invaluable financial support for Tennessee ministries. The annual offering sustains ministries not funded through the Cooperative Pro-gram. The eternal impact of this offering in the lives of others is im-measurable. Thank you for making it all happen.

If you were unable to commit to a health screening in July, Smithwood Baptist Church is once again offering a preventive health event. Life Line Screening will host their affordable, non-invasive and painless health screenings. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member dis-count). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. In order to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners.

The youth are planning a mission trip to Club 180 in Kentucky from December 28-31. There will be a very brief interest meeting following the morning worship service on Sunday September 25th.

Our next meeting will be this Tuesday, September

13, at 10:00 a.m. Our guest speaker will be Dr.

Donny Black, who will talk about his recent mission

trips. All women are invited to attend.

Ark Encounter features a full-size

Noah’s Ark, built according to the

dimensions given in the Bible. Span-

ning 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and

51 feet high, Ark Encounter is situat-

ed in Williamstown, Kentucky. From the moment you turn the cor-

ner and the towering Ark comes into view, to the friendly animals in

the zoo, to the jaw-dropping exhibits inside the Ark, you’ll experi-

ence the pages of the Bible like never before.

The Keenagers would like to plan a trip to visit the Ark. This trip

would require spending one night in a hotel. The cost of admission

to the museum is $31 for seniors, plus the cost of the hotel. If you

would be interested in joining us for this trip, please contact the of-

fice.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30,

4:00-6:00 p.m.

The month of September is almost halfway

through and soon October will be upon us. Alt-

hough we haven’t had one in the past couple of

years, this fall Smithwood will once again host a Trunk or Treat for our

community. Although it is still weeks away, it is not too early to think

about how your family can participate. We will need families to deco-

rate the trunks of their cars and line the parking lot with their vehicles.

We will need candy — lots of it! — to give out. This is a wonderful op-

portunity for us to meet our neighbors in a relaxed setting and to begin

establishing relationships with those beyond our doors. In addition to

the distribution of candy, there will be plenty of other opportunities to

serve. We will be needing assistance with set up and clean up. We will

need people who are willing to walk around and just keep an eye on the

children, and people who are willing just to smile and answer questions.

In a nutshell, WE NEED YOU!! If you would be interested in serving in

any capacity, please see Anthony Collins or call the office.

Church-wide Intergenerational Missions Session

(sponsored by WMU)

Rev. Roger and Judy Hansard, Mission Service Corps missionaries with the North American Mission Board and leaders of the Regional Education Center Minis-tries in Tazwell, TN will be at Smithwood on October

29 from 10:00 a.m. – noon to tell us about their work. Light refresh-ments will be served. Rev. Hansard is Sheila Wylie’s brother. The church will be collecting hygiene items and peanut butter for the Cen-ter during September and October, or you may purchase a hen for $6.00 for a family as part of their holiday meal. This is an intergenera-tional event for all Smithwood folks. Come and learn about this im-portant missions opportunity that our missions giving supports!
