Course Description: This course addresses the standards of practice for adult/geriatric clients requiring

less complex nursing care and focuses on the use of the nursing process in assisting adult/geriatric

clients to adapt to their ever-changing health needs.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to provide safe

and effective nursing care to adult/geriatric clients experiencing chronic alterations in health:

A. Nursing Process

1. Discuss evidenced-based therapeutic nursing interventions when planning to use the nursing

process while caring for adult/geriatric clients with chronic conditions.

2. Describe how the nurse uses the nursing process as the framework when planning care for

adult/geriatric clients with alterations in select body systems.

B. Critical Thinking

1. Integrate knowledge from natural sciences, humanities, technology and nursing in the

development of individualized nursing care plans for adult/geriatric clients.

2. Determine the legal and ethical role of the nurse in providing holistic care to culturally diverse

adult/geriatric clients.

Students are required to complete the HESI Evolve Reach online programs and other assignments for

this course by the assigned dates and times announced in class.

Attendance for Class: Students are expected to attend ALL designated class meetings. It is mandatory

for all students to attend the Student Success Program until the first exam is given then any student not

achieving at least 84% must continue to attend. Refer to the Student Handbook for the policies.

However, it is suggested that all students attend SSP throughout the course.
