Winter 2010 News White (goods) Christmas Homeless appeal This year we are dreaming of a ‘White (goods) Christmas’ – the campaign is to provide basic new white goods to homeless people in need, over Christmas and throughout the year. Providing the basic commodities we all take for granted will enable the people we support to make a new start in life. Nugent Care need your help to make someone’s dreams come true this Christmas! Help us to make it a White Christmas by making a donation or purchasing new white goods items which can be dropped off at Nugent Care anytime from now until March 2011. Can you help us to generate 10 packs of the following white goods items? Irons (£10) Toasters (£15) Kettles (£10) Washing machines (£250) Fridge freezers (£210) Microwaves (£50) Please contact Marie or Ian on 0151 261 2000 or email [email protected] for further information. (More information on page 2) In this issue: • Make it a white Christmas • The Volunteer Awards • Fundraising updates • Have your say on Nugent News • Winter warmer recipe Chief Executive's Message Help Nugent Care make Christmas 2010 a ‘white’ Christmas. I do not mean that stuff that children (and many adults) love, that we slip and slide around on, and love to see from the comfort of our warm homes. I am referring to our White (goods) Christmas Homeless appeal. Please help us give homeless people the opportunity to have the same benefits as us so that they too can have warm comfortable homes to enjoy all year round. Please read our lead feature and appeal to see how you can help. Nugent Care has directly helped and cared for over 7000 people again this past year, and also offered support to their friends and families. Our thanks go to everyone who has made that possible, staff and volunteers who give their time so generously, people who donate goods or money to us, and our statutory and voluntary partners. Let’s together try to make 2011 an even better year as we g rapple with financial constraints and cutbacks. Wishing you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas, and all the very best for 2011. Hear Here - Every Little Helps!Sir Terry Leahy CEO of Tesco has awarded Nugent Care’s deaf and hard of hearing project, ‘Hear Here’ a grant of £1187. The money will be used to provide a lip reading class in Old Swan Liverpool. The grant is being administered by the Community Foundation for Merseyside. Many thanks to Sir Terry for supporting the work of Nugent Care.

Nugent goes online!Nugent Care has been established for 130 years in 2011 and in that time although our values have remained consistent, the services we have to offer to those in need have changed to meet the diverse needs of our society.

As part of this ongoing evolvement Nugent Care has recently become part of the online community establishing ‘Twitter’ and ‘Facebook’ groups, to allow us to keep in touch with those supporters of Nugent Care who are on the web.

As part of this development, we’d also like to hear about how you’d prefer to receive Nugent News. Attached to this season’s newsletter is a FREEPOST feedback card so you can have your say!

For up to the minute news about Nugent Care and our fundraising events and the opportunity to share your thoughts with us, please visit our website and click on the Twitter and Facebook links... Look forward to receiving your ‘Tweets!’

Snowdon challengeMembers of our business community Helen Walker, Ian Denny and John Hale valiantly climbed up Snowdon to raise funds for Geel Nursing Home in late September. Our brave adventurers endured some bad weather on the day but managed to complete their mission. Other members of our business community donated to the Geel appeal and in total they raised £700 .The money will buy memory boxes for the people who live at Geel.

Kirwans will weekA second Will Week was held in conjunction with Kirwans solicitors in November and raised £1000.

The scheme enabled people to arrange wills for themselves and donate to Nugent Care at the same time! Our thanks go to John, Paul, Dennis and everybody at Kirwans for their support during Will Week and throughout 2010.
