What has the Chapter done this
year?? The Nu Zeta Chapter has been hard at work all year. Each brother has been committed to academic excellence in the classroom while carrying out the work of Alpha to uphold the Light in Cullowhee, N.C. On the left is a month by month layout of what the chapter has done this year. This academic year of 2011-2012 has flown by and the Nu Zeta Chapter continues to progress onward and upward, reaching new heights of excellence. “The 1-9-0-6 will always stand above….” -”Burning Like Snow”

During Black Awareness Weekend, April
2oth-22nd, Cullowhee welcomed home a
large number of Black Alumni. The Nu Zeta
chapter held its 35th Anniversary
Celebration. Brothers traveled from near
and far to come together and fellowship in
the spirit of Brotherhood as we honored our
dear home chapter.
The Alphas kicked off their celebration with
a dinner reception at the Sylva Inn. Other
events included an Alpha Breakfast at Ryans
Steakhouse, A State of the Chapter
presentation, and Black Awareness Week
Events. The chapter was honored at the
Black Alumni Dinner Banquet for 35 years
of service at Western Carolina University.
Let’s go for 35 more!
Scholarship: Bro. RaKim Lash
The Harvey Walker Jr. Scholarship was awarded to Brother RaKim Lash at the Black Alumni Banquet Dinner. Rakim is the first recipient of the scholarship.
RaKim Lash was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. He graduated from South Stokes High School in June of 2009 and was enrolled at Western Carolina University in the Fall of 2009. Rakim, or “Rahk”, is a Political Science major with a minor in Leadership. He is a 3rd year Project CARE mentor, former OES exec member, former SGA Diversity Senator, and Diversity Director. RaKim has worked at the Campus Rec center and is currently the Head Tutoring Coordinator for tutoring services at Student Support Services.
Rahk is a Spring 2011 initiate of the Nu Zeta chapter, “License to Chill”, #7. He started off as the chapter historian and in the Spring of 2012 was elected President and remains in both positions.
Rakim will be graduating in the Spring of 2013 and plans to pursue a career in Student Affairs as a Director of Greek Life after obtaining his masters degree from Bowling Green University.
• On April 23rd, 2012, the Nu Zeta chapter attended the “Celebrate Excellence” Awards Banquet along with the rest of the Greek population and student orgs. The chapter took home 3 plaques awarded to them by the University.
• On April 24th, 2012, Intercultural Affairs hosted their Awards Banquet in which the chapter earned several awards, along with a few individual member awards.
