Overview of NTPC
NTPC was set up in the central sector in the 1975.
NTPC has installed capacity of 29,394 MW. It plans to be a 75,000 MW company by 2017.
NTPC Badarpur station has also bagged ISO 9001/ ISO 14001 certification.
Today NTPC contributes more than 3 / 5th of the total power generation in India

ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION
INSTALLED CAPACITY 720 MW
DERATED CAPACITY 705 MW (3x95 + 2x210MW)
OWNED BY GOVT. OF INDIA, MINISTRY OF POWER
BEING MANAGED BY NTPC FOR THE LAST 26 YEARS SINCE 1st APRIL 1978
NTPC adjudged as the 3rd best employer in India
NTPC Badarpur
BTPS was conceived in 1965 to meet the growing electricity demand of Northern Region.
The site construction activities started in 1968.
The plant became operational with the commissioning of its first unit on 26th July 1973, 2nd unit in ;74 , 3rd unit in ’75 , 4th unit in ’78 & 5th unit in ’81.
Basic Principle There are basically three main units of a thermal power plant: 1. Steam Generator or Boiler 2. Steam Turbine 3. Electric Generator

C&I LABS
Control and Instrumentation Department has following labs: 1. Manometry Lab 2. Protection and Interlocks Lab 3. Automation Lab 4. Electronics Lab 5. Water Treatment Plant 6. Furnaces Safety Supervisory System Lab
OPERATION AND MAINTAINANCE
This control & instrumentation is the brain of the plant because from the relays to transmitters followed by the electronic computation chipsets and recorders and lastly the controlling circuitry, all fall under this. A View of Control Room at BTPS

MOP’s Meritorious Productivity Award:
For calendar years 1987, 1988, 1990.
For financial years 92-93, 94-95 and 97-98
Received Bronze medal in 1998-99 and
Received Silver shield and certificate of
Meritorious performance for 2000-01.
Received Gold shield and Certificate for
outstanding performance three consecutive years
01-02 & 02-03 , 03-04. the awards were
presented by Hon’ble President of India and
Hon’ble power Minister on 24 August 2004.

Puraskar’98 at Vigyan Bhawan on 20th
Aug’02 by Chief Minister of Delhi.

by Greentech foundation for 2003-04
– BTPS awarded Greentech Environment excellence Gold Award in Thermal Power sector for 2002-03

– BTPS received golden peacock award for IT Innovations for 2003-04

Conclusion
The BTPS IT has come a long way from lagging to leading in IT enablement among NTPC power stations. IT Vision realized, making BTPS highly information enabled plant.
