• Ahmed Diallo is the recipient of the DoE early career research award from FY 14 through FY 18. His proposal’s goal is controlling the edge pedestal structure to guarantee maximum core fusion performance in next step devices such as ITER and Fusion Nuclear Science Facility (FNSF).
• Dave Gates and Charles Skinner were APS Fellows nominated by DPP for 2013.
Gates, David - For innovation and leadership in the understanding and control
of limiting MHD phenomena in toroidal plasmas and
Skinner, Charles - For innovations in magnetic fusion issues including
tokamak dust diagnostics and tritium management and seminal contributions to
x-ray lasers and applications, non-linear optics, plasma spectroscopy, and
plasma-lithium interactions.
Congratulations!

• Many nice science talks particularly from MAST folks.
• MAST is completing its operation and starting the upgrade construction phase. (I will show one slide on MAST-U)
• GLOBUS-M is now upgrading the machine for GLOBUS-M2. It aims to increase the toroidal field BT
and plasma current Ip by a factor of 2.5 to 1 T and 0.5
MA.
• MAST-U generated 70 kA with 70 kW of ECH at 28 GHz. QUEST also generated ~ 65 kA with ECH at 28 GHz.
• A. Sykes of Tokamak Solutions talked about very compact ST reactor with R0 ~ 1 m using
high temperature SC with minimal neutron shields.
