NSS ACTIVITIES (2018 -19) NSS unit of SLC with its Motto “ Not me But You”, is very dynamic and has been playing a major role towards the welfare of society by involving the youth in various social causes in the guidance of Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar and faculty members - Dr. Kavita Arora (Programmer Officer), Dr. Seema Dabas, Dr. Anil Thakur, Ms. Sumanjeet Kaur, Ms. Suman Rani, Mr. Amit Kapoor and Ms. Mamta Gupta. On the occasion of International Yoga Day, NSS unit organizes One-week yoga camp jointly with Sports Committee, CHD and NCC Unit of college. Observing the Swachh Bharat Mission, NSS Unit regularly organizes cleanliness drives in and around the college premises. Moving a step ahead the Unit organized a Swachhata Abhiyan from 23 rd - 31 st July, 2018 comprising several activities like Movie screening (themes “Cleanliness”, “Plastic Hazards” and “Yamuna Pollution”), revival of compost pit in college and Tree plantation. Bearing its responsibility towards the society the Unit performed a skit in “Govt. Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya” and “Govt. Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya School” motivating them to keep the surroundings clean. A visit to Shahadra Mandi was also organized on 25 th July, 2018 to create awareness about the harmful effects of polythene bags on the environment. Sample jute bags were distributed among the local shop keepers. Extending its range of Community Service the Unit organized a Free Health Checkup camp in Hanuman Basti, Jhilmil Colony on 9 th April, 2019 in collaboration with National Medicos Organization (NMO). Around 150 people in the Basti were given medical guidance. An Eye checkup camp with Neera Eye Centre and Health camp with MAX Hospital were also organized in college on 17th January and 10 th April ,2018.

On 10th April, 2019 Blood Donation Camp was organized jointly with NMO and RML Hospital, Delhi. Blood Donation Camps were also organized in collaboration with The Rotary club of Delhi Achievers on 10th August, 2017 and 10th April, 2018. Students and college staff enthusiastically donated blood in all the camps.

Surgical Strike Day was celebrated on 28th and 29th Sept, 2018. To express their gratitude to the army,

students wrote letters and poems which were sent to the Ministry of Defense. Poster making and essay

writing competitions were also organized. A workshop on road safety in collaboration with Mash Project Foundation was organized on 30th January’19. The main aim of the workshop was to make the students aware

about importance of road safety and how to respond in an emergency situation. Jointly with the Skill

Development Cell,SLC the Unit organized a Two-Day Workshop on GST and a 7 day self-defense training

camp. A Career Awareness Program by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) was organized on12th October, 2018.

The Unit regularly conducts donation drives to help the underprivileged fellow beings. A Donation Drive was organized during 3rd -12th January,2018. All the items were donated in the Shelter Home located near the college. A donation camp for Kerela Flood victims from 21st to 27th August 2018 was also organized. Items collected at the donation camp were sent to Goonj NGO. Book donation camp and signature campaign for pollution free Diwali was organized in college from 31st Oct. to 6nd Nov., 2018. A street play & lecture on leprosy were organized in collaboration with TLM Community Hospital on 18th Feb’19. The main aim was to sensitize the masses about the causes, consequences of leprosy and the discrimination faced by leprosy patients in society.

The Unit celebrated NSS Day by organizing street play, debate and essay writing competition. Rally for rivers campaign was introduced in college to create awareness about protecting rivers and rejuvenating them. Volunteers from our college visited their nearby household surroundings and taught the economically backward children. It was a small effort to ignite the minds of the future generations. NSS volunteers helped PWD students to help in their curriculum by helping them in their class assignments, by reading them newspapers and answering their queries. Our volunteers also participate regularly in the events organized by NSS Centre, University of Delhi. In academic session 2018-19 NSS Unit submitted a Rolling Project “JAGRITI” based on Community Service with special focus on Cleanliness and Health issues to Academic Affairs and Monitoring Committee of the college.

The president of our Unit, Abhay Oberoi, B.A.Eco(H), III was selected for the NSS Adventure Camp at the Regional Sports Centre which is affiliated to ABVIMAS. He represented the Delhi state at the Pre-RD Camp held at Sikar(Rajasthan).He along with Sai Vaishnavi Majety, B.A.Pol Sci(H),III and Gaurav Singh

B.Com,III were adjourned Best Interns under the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship and went on to give a presentation at University level. Rohan Kumar, B.Com(H),II was chosen as the SVEEP Ambassador of our college. Priya Das B.Com(H),I secured II position in poster making competition organized by National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization. The work was made possible due to untiring efforts, zest and zeal of NSS volunteers and core team members – Abhay Oberoi (President), Sai Vaishnavi Majety (Vice President), Anuj Sethi (Ex-President), Nikita Gupta, Parul Arora, Aatif Haider, Bhavya Aggarwal, Rohan Kumar, Gaurav Singh, Krishna Gupta, Piyush Gupta, Rahul Singh, Kamal.
