Over 350 procurement professionals, from both the private and public sector, attended the first ever National Procurement Awards at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.The awards attracted just under 100 entries, with 48 of those making the final cut. A distinguished panel of judges selected the 13 eventual winners.Symantec were the big success on the night picking up the prestigious ‘Overall Excellence in Procurement Award’ as well as ‘Best Cross Functional Procurement Management’ and ‘Best Procurement Team’.Eamon Lally, of Mayo General Hospital, was the recipient of the ‘Procurement Leader’ award.Jane O’Keefe, President of the IIPMM said, ‘These inaugural awards show how important the procurement function is to organisations seeking to drive down costs and improve efficiencies. We congratulate the winners and thank the organisers and sponsors for making these awards possible.’The findings from the first ever National Procurement Survey, conducted by Main Partner Accenture, were also revealed at the awards. Armin Samali, Senior Executive and Supply Chain Management lead Accenture Ireland said, ‘The survey shows that the most proficient procurement operations - those deemed ‘masters’ – are those that have a clear mandate from top management and go beyond simply cutting costs and actually add value by strategically segmenting their supplier base. Our research found that in-house procurement functions have been instrumental in reducing company costs over the last 12 months, with the majority (85%) high performing and reporting a minimum six per cent contribution to bottom line savings which reflects a high degree of procurement excellence locally’.The awards were judged by a distinguished panel of procurement professionals from business, pubic sector and academia. Best use of Technology inProcurement- Bord na Móna.Gerard O’Neill, CEO and Chairman of Amárach Research, presents the trophy for Best use of Technology in Procurement to Declan McDonnell, Group Procurement Manager at Bordna Móna.

Overall Excellence in Procurement-Symantec. Symantec Head of Strategic Sourcing, Anne Stewart, receives the supreme award, Overall Excellence in Procurement, from Accenture’s Country Managing Director, Mark Ryan.

Innovation in Private Procurement-Abbott Ireland. Eddie Scaife, Commercial Director of ARAMARK, presents Stephen Nolan, Abbott Ireland’s Planning and Purchasing Manager, with the award for Innovation in Private Procurement.

Best People Development Initiative-Pfizer. Jane O’Keeffe, President of the Irish Institute of Purchasing Materials Management, presents Pfizer’s Manager of European Procurement, John Ryan, with the trophy for Best People Development Initiative.

Procurement Leader- Eamonn Lally,Mayo General Hospital. Jane O’Keeffe, President of IIPMM presents Eamonn Lally of Mayo General Hospital with the trophy for Procurement Leader.

Innovation in Public Procurement-Trinity College and UCD. ARAMARK Ireland’s Commercial Director, Eddie Scaife, presents Trinity College Dublin’s Senior Buyer Trevor Kerley, and the Head of Purchasingat UCD Turlough Kieran, with the trophy for Innovation in Public Procurement.

Excellence in Public Procurementinvolving indigenous SMEs-Temetra. Enterprise Ireland’s Head of Public Procurement, Stephen Hughes, presents Temetra’s Managing Director, Paul Barry, with the trophy for Excellence in Public Procurement SME.

Best Procurement Team- Symantec.Armin Samali, Accenture Supply Chain and Procurement Practice Lead for Ireland, hands over the Best Procurement Team award to Anne Stewart, Head of Strategic Sourcing at Symantec.

Green Public Sector Procurement-Office of Public Works - FurnitureServices. John Gormley, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, presents Director of Furniture Services at the Office of Public Works, Robert Guihen, with the award for Green Public Sector Procurement.

Excellence in Private ProcurementSME- Bgate Technology. Clare McGrath, Chairman of the Office of Public Works awards Phillip Sarrat, Sales Director for Bgate Technology, with the trophy for Excellence in Private ProcurementSME.

Best Cross Functional ProcurementManagement- Symantec. Gerry Drum, Group Enterprise Manager, Independent Newspapers, present Anne Stewart and Matt Baier of Symantec, with the award for Best Cross Functional Procurement Management.

Green Private Sector Procurement-C & C Group. John Stephens of John Stephens Consulting presents the trophy for Green Private Sector Procurement to Susan Byrne of the C & C Group.

Healthcare Procurement- HSEProcurement Portfolio & CategoryManagement Kilkenny. Clare McGrath, Chairman of the OPW, presents Leader of the NIMIS project for HSE Procurement, Miriam Rourke, with the award for Health Sector Procurement.
