Newsletter Week 7 Term 1 6 February 2017
Principal’s Report Thank you to all parents and carers who visited the school over the last couple of weeks and worked with our Aboriginal Education Officers and teachers to develop their child’s Personal Learning Plan. Belinda, Uncle Gus and Miss Jen have done an amazing job coordinating the last few weeks. Thank you to everyone for working as a team to make this happen. The interviews were a great success and staff received some valuable information on how to best support your child. Staff will use these plans to inform their programs to meet the needs of our children. Your time and interest in your child’s education is valued and appreciated. Thank you. I would like to congratulate the following students who qualified for the District Swimming Carnival which was held Friday 24 February at Nowra Aquatic Centre: Aidyn Bassett, Damien Crump, Megan Balanag-Dayusan, Bianca Grieve, Nate Stewart, Aysha Stewart, Bryah Longbottom, Trae Read, Jymeal McLeod. Mr Stevenson and I would like to especially congratulate Bianca Grieve for making the regional Swimming Team in 50m backstroke for 8-10 girls held on Wednesday 8 March. Congratulation and Good Luck!
Another huge thank you and appreciation of our office staff who have been going through many changes with LMBR. We are constantly looking at ways on how we can improve and make work life easier during these challenging times. Thank you to all for your understanding. Welcome to Maureen Chapman to our NEPS team in the Library. We look forward in working with you this year. A big thank you to Justin Anderson who has done a great job as relieving Librarian. I am sure we will still see Mr Anderson around our school! Scooters are becoming an issue in the morning. Primary students are to leave their scooter on Ms Ward’s verandah until the morning bell. After
morning assembly students can give scooters to their class teacher to keep them safe. I really don’t want to get to the stage of banning scooters! P&C Fundraiser Volunteers Needed- BBQ at Bunnings 18 March. Please register your name at office if you can help- time slots are available. This is an easy way on how you can help our school and raise money for important resources for your children. We do appreciate all your support. Ms Pigott’s room now has a name- The Mulga Room meaning “pod” room. This is a lovely quiet space where children can learn and grow in small groups. I have been requested by school executive last week to speak with P&C regarding change of House Names from 2018. From Patterson, Lawson, Gilmour and McKeller to Aboriginal names representing
Earth- Bembul Fire- Gwianga
Wind- Guwara Water- Badu
Any changes to school names, uniforms, plans etc must be consulted with students and community. This will be raised at next P&C Meeting. If you are interested in providing feedback, we would certainly welcome your thoughts and opinions. This decision needs to be discussed and every voice needs to be heard in a respectful manner.
A reminder to parents to please park in the legal locations for the safety of all children. Thank you to those parents who have been doing the right thing. Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or to the contact details of other people nominated as emergency contacts.
Once again, please do not hesitate to come and see me if you have any concerns regarding your child’s education, social development or further support needed for you and your family. Our conversations will be confidential and I will always look for positive ways to resolve concerns. Mrs Kristie Goldthorp OAM
