For centuries there has been a select group ofpeople who are the real thinkers. These individualshave always known there is a power whichpermeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of thecosmos, and that everything you see around you is

an expression of that power. The power operates ina very precise manner, which is generally called law.In other words, everything comes from one source,and that source power always flows and works toand through the individualthat is you. Statedslightly differently, the image that you have formedcan only come to you on the physical plane of life(your results) in one way, and that way is By Lawand through Faith.The Mormon religion has a scripture in itsDoctrine and Covenants which demonstrates this

point extremely well, and although I am not aMormon myself, I have grown to love these lines:There is a law; irrevocably decreed in

heaven before the foundations of this worldupon which all blessings are predicated.

And when we obtain any blessing from God,

it is by obedience to that law upon which itis predicated.

D & C 130:20-21The more you study this scripture, the more youwill appreciate just how perfect it is. The more you

understand its truth, the easier it will be for you toimprove the quality of your life.76 Let Go And Let God

Clarence Smithisons Story

A number of years ago, when I was working inChicago, Illinois, I became close friends with a manby the name of Clarence Smithison. Since Clarenceis not a celebrity, by any means, I am sure you havenever heard his name before. In fact, he is such amodest, self-effacing person, that if he were to walk

into a room crowded with people, you wouldprobably not even notice him. Nevertheless, thereis a certain indefinable spark in Clarence Smithisonwhich makes him one of the most remarkableindividuals I have ever had the pleasure to know. Inan attempt to identify this elusive quality, I havecome up with the following hypothesis: ClarenceSmithison incorporates, within his very being, theprinciple upon which this entire chapter is basednamely, if a person will let go and let God (i.e. havefaith that whatever must happen for him to achievehis goal, will indeed occur), all things becomepossible.One day I confronted Clarence and asked him toshare with me his view of faith and morespecifically, his explanation of why he personallyseemed to possess such a cornucopia of thisimportant attribute. True to his nature, he explainedto me he had not developed a complicatedphilosophy with respect to the subject. He saideverything he believed about Faith could besummarized in a simple definition; and it was thisdefinition which gave him the strength he neededto endure the trials and tribulations in his own life.Faith, he said, is the ability to see the invisibleand believe in the incredible and that is what enables


believers to receive what the masses think isimpossible. I have fallen in love with this particulardefinition and have shared it with countless numbersof people, since Clarence first shared it with me.

Using a slightly different vocabulary, I wouldmake the observation: If you can show me a personwho achieves great things, I can show you a personwho has great faith in his God-given ability toachieve what he images. In fact, there is absolutelyno question in my mind that faith has always beenthe miracle worker throughout history. It is theconnecting link between God and You, andtherefore, it is your most valuable nonphysicalpossession. In truth, it is the cornerstone toeverything you will ever build or achieve during the

course of your entire lifetime.Comparatively few people today realize just howmuch faith in oneself (that part of oneself which isspiritual, perfect) has to do with achievement,because the great majority of people never seem toconceive of faith as being a genuine creative force.Yet the truth is that not only is Faith a bona fidepower, but it is the greatest one we will everencounter. In fact, I would go so far as to say thatwhatever you accomplish in your lifetime, will be

in direct proportion to the:1) intensity, and2) persistence of your faith.David And Goliath

Consider, for example, the biblical story of78 Let Go And Let God

David and Goliath, which surely must rank as oneof the greatest testaments ever written on the subjectof faith. As you will recall, Goliath, the giant of

Gath, came into the Israelite camp boastingpompously and taunting the Israelites to select a manto do battle with him. The Israelites, naturally, wereterrified and, not surprisingly, none of them leapedforward to accept the challenge.Sometime later, however, when Goliath returnedto reiterate his challenge, David, an Israelite youth,overheard the giants obnoxious boasting and hestepped forward to pick up the gauntlet. Finally,after much pleading before his elders for the dubioushonor of facing Goliath in battle, the youth was

accorded the great privilege of going forth to dobattle. The elders insisted, however, that Davidclothe himself in heavy protective armor. They alsogave him a sword with which to smite his powerfuladversary. But David said, I am not used to thesethings, I cannot fight with these handicaps. Theseare not my weapons. I have other weapons withwhich to fight the giant. So he stripped himself ofall his armor, and went into battle with no weaponother than a simple slingshot and a few pebbleswhich he had gathered from the nearby brook.

When the giant leader of the Philistines,protected as he was with armor from head to toe,armed with mighty weapons and preceded by hisshield-bearer, saw the unarmed, unprotectedIsraelite youth approaching, he was infuriated. Hesaid to David, Come to me and I will give thy fleshunto the fowls of the air and to the beasts of thefield. Young David, however, never one to be


intimidated, answered the giant saying, Thoucomest to me with a sword and with a spear, and

with a shield, but I come to thee in the name of theLord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whomthou has defied. This day will the Lord deliver theeinto mine hands. While the giant Goliath placedhis faith in physical objects like armor, swords andshields, David placed his solely in an unseen God.The resultthe young Israelite shepherd defeatedhis far mightier foe! With nothing, save a singlestone from his sling, David struck Goliath, and thegiant fell lifeless to the ground.

By accepting the principle Let Go And LetGod, and believing that whatever must happen foryou to reach your goal, will happenlike Davidyou too will successfully conquer the giant in yourlife (i.e. you will witness the physical manifestationof your image, and in the proper time). You see, thetrouble with those of us who fail to achieve whatwe desire, is not that we lack the ability to do so,but that we lack the faith implicit in the Let GoAnd Let God principle, which dictates whatever isnecessary for us to reach our goal will indeed occur.We do not believe we can simply tap into thegreat spiritual reservoir that lies within us, to makeconnection with divinity, all-supply, or whateverelse you wish to call that power which sustains eachone of us. However, if you fail to make thisconnection in your own mind, or if you lack thedivine self-confidence born of faith in omnipotence,you will never be what you long to be, or have whatyou rightly deserve to have. All of your prayers willreturn to you unanswered; your best efforts will bear80 Let Go And Let God

no fruit and your negative attitudes will thwart therealization of your goal.A mind saturated with fear of failure or imagesof unwanted results, can no more accomplish, create,or produce anything of value, than a stone canviolate the law of gravity by flying upwards in theair. You must realize the creator does not alter thelaw of gravity to accommodate a person who walksoff the roof of a house. (Even though the person may

do it unconsciously or in a drugged state.) Similarly,the creative principle of the law of achievementcannot be violated with impunity. Therefore, youwill achieve what you desire, be what you long tobe, only when you become obedient to thatinexorable law of life.To recapitulatethe first step in the creativeprocess is to relax and see yourself already inpossession of the good that you desire. (Build theimage.) The second step is toLet Go And Let God.In working with Spirit, it helps to focus on the

truth that Spirit is in all places at all times. Sincethis is so, it follows that you possess the godlikeability to tap into positive thoughts anytime youwish and anywhere you choose. Moreover, once youbecome aware of your kinship with the creativepower, that you are in truth a child of spirit, youcannot possibly be anything other than positive,forceful, radiant and self-reliant in your dealingswith the world (a conqueror of those forces whichwould attempt to drag you down or hold you back).

Once this happens, all the forces in the universe willcome together to help you reach your goal or the


manifestation of your Image. Finally, gaining theunderstanding that you are made in the image of thecreator of the universeand are a living part ofeternal spiritwill ultimately transform the resultsthat you are achieving in your life, every day.Another thing you should know about Spirit is

that it is a power which is forever flowing into andthrough you (we also call this power thought). Butas Spirit or thought flows into you, you choose theimage you will then form with it. Experiment foryourselfsit back, relax and then become fullyaware of this great creative capacity. You canactually form one image or picture, after another,on the screen of your mind (images of things whichalready exist physically, like your car, your home,your place of business, or images of things that donot yet existsuch as your short-term and long-term

goals).But the point I want to impress upon you now,is that although Spirit is the very essence of yourbeing, it will never move into form or into an image,without your assistance. So those people who sitback and do nothing, saying, God will look afterme, are just fooling themselves. For since it is truethat God helps only those who first help themselves,it follows that you must always do your part to startthe creative process in motion. You must alwaysbuild the image and know in your heart the image

will materialize. You must come to look upon Godas being a great unseen provider who inhabits everyfibre of your being and you must also understandthat the instant you form the image in your mind,God will go to work in Gods Perfect Way and move82 Let Go And Let God

you into an entirely new vibration (i.e. you willbegin to feel differently). So always remember, thenew feeling coming over you is really God at workand although you may sometimes express yourelation by saying you feel enthusiastic, remember

that the word Enthusiasm is just a derivation fromthe early Greeken theosmeaning in God.Your enthusiastic attitude will, in turn, causeyour actions to change and you will start behavingdifferently. Moreover, not only will you begin toact differently yourself, but because of the newvibration you are in, you will begin to gravitatetoward, and to attract to you, other like-mindedpeople. Strange and wonderful things will begin tohappen to you and with such regularity that you will

be at a loss to explain or even to comprehend whatis going onso dont even make the attempt. Justunderstand it is Gods Way, or The Way of theCreative Force, and accept the good as it comesand expect more of the same in the future.The skeptics will begin to say you are just lucky,and you should let it go at that. For as long as youcontinue to hold the image in your mind of the goodyou desire, you will always be rewarded. Just havefaith that what should happen must happen, and inthe right time, it will happen. Always remember that,the image which you keep affirming in your heartor your subconscious mind is being impressed uponSpirit, and Spirit has the ability to convert yourpresent dreams into your future reality.On the surface, it might appear, from time totime, that things are not going well and you may


begin to worry you are moving in the wrongdirection. But let me assure you, this will not be the

case, as long as you keep the image of the good youdesire firmly planted in your subconscious mind. Forif you do this, you will continue to move in the onlydirection in which you can move, in order to get towhere you want to go.Dont forget, it is never sufficient to believe inyourself (that part of you which God created in Hisimage) only when you feel particularly enthusiasticor when some particular good fortune has befallenyou. It is never adequate to have FAITHsporadically; to get enthusiastic over your prospects

and then to undermine all of your mental kingdom.It wont do to keep dropping down, again and again,like the frog trying to get out of a well, but is feelingweaker and more discouraged after each fall. Anyperson who starts that type of process in motion, isletting go of his Image of Prosperity and is usinghis creative powers to build images of povertyinstead.And as we have already said, God, being a justGod, will always work to bring about your ultimategood. But always bear in mind it is your innermost

thoughts and images you are requesting; not thewords to which you might only be paying lipservice.Therefore, make it a habit to begin and endeach day with A Declaration of Faith in yourself(created after Gods image), and in His power(whatever you choose to call it). Guard this faithzealously, as you would your most preciouspossession and ensure that it never be imperilled byweak, downhearted and negative thoughts.84 Let Go And Let God

Doubts, fears, pessimism, and negative thinkingpoison the very source of life. They sap energy,enthusiasm, ambition, hope, faith and everythingelse which makes life purposeful, joyful andcreative. You must consciously entertain only themental allies of your ambition and those attributeswhich will help you realize the manifestation of yourgoal. For when you are firmly grounded in Faith,negative thoughts will have no power over you,because they will not be in harmonious vibrationwith your new image. You will be mentally strongthrough the conscious awareness of Gods powerwithin you.When Times Get Tough

When things get tough you must get tougher andyou can.As Dr. Robert Schuller said, Tough times neverlast, but tough people do. So if you find your faithslipping or you find yourself running low on thisgreat motor power which accomplishes so manywonderful things, you can do something about it.The following exercise works for meit has foryearsand I know it will work for you too. Youcan build huge reservoirs of mental power by simplyemploying a daily autosuggestive technique, for theacquisition and the strengthening of this greatest andmost necessary of all human attributesFaith.Note that when you are giving yourself thismental treatment, you should always go off byyourself and speak out loud to yourself in a firm,decided tone of voice (verbalize what you are saying,


just as earnestly as if you were speaking to someoneelse whom you wished to impress with the greatimportance of what you were asserting). When youspeak to yourself, begin with your own name andcontinue as follows:YOUR NAME, You are a child of God andthe being God made was never intended for

the sort of weak, negative life you are

leading. God made you for success not

failure. God never made anyone to be a

failure. You are perverting the great objectof your existence by giving way to these

miserable doubts of yourself, of your abilityto be what you desire with all your heart to

be. You should be ashamed to go out amongst

your associates with a long, sad, dejectedface, as though you were a misfit, as though

you lacked creative power within, as though

you did not have the ability to do what yourCreator sent you here to do. You were made

to express what you long to express. Why not

do this? - why not stand and walk like a

conqueror, like a David who slew Goliath,instead of giving way to discouragement and

doubt and carrying on like a failure? The

Image of Perfection, the Image of yourCreator lies within you. You must bring it to

the center of your conscious thought and

express it to the world. Dont disgrace yourMaker by violating that image, by being

everything but the magnificent success God

intended you to be.86 Let Go And Let God

There is a tremendous achievement force, an upbuildingand strengthening power in the assertingof confidence in the Creator and that you are createdin His image. This is not egotism, not theglorification of the parody of the man or womanwhich wrong-thinking or wrong-living has made. Itis simply the assertion of your kinship with God.

Do Not Force It To HappenThere should be no force associated with themanifestation of your image, because ForceNegates. Trying to do it your way, by forcing thingsto happen, is not necessarily Gods way. Therefore,learn to follow the quiet voice within that speaks infeelings rather then words; follow what you hearinside, rather than what others may be telling youto do. Be aware that the quiet voice within oftentells you to do things which run counter to the waymost people live their lives. But do not be unduly

concerned by this. Many of the worlds greatestleaders were considered heretics by their peers,simply because they chose to march to the tune ofa different drummer! These individuals werefollowing the quiet voice within them, rather thandoing the things considered fashionable in their day.Let your image sink deep into the treasury ofyour subconscious mind. Let yourself get totally andemotionally involved with your Image, because bydoing this you are Letting Go and Letting God.Understand, moreover, that if you should falter

for any reasonand go your own way, the minuteyou recognize your error and reaffirm your image,


Spirit will pick up right where it left off when youchose to take over the controls. Then you willinstantaneously be back in the right vibration andon the correct pathway, leading to success in life.Follow the instructions on the next page, to theletter.First Principle

your life.

In other words, it is impossible to feel poorwhen you are conscious of being enveloped in theprotective care of a loving God, universal spirit, orwhatever else you may wish to call the spiritualcenterof our universe. Let me repeatthere neveris, and there never has been any lack of supply otherthan that which we have created for ourselvesbecause of our own limited awareness.The Lightbulb Tale

The following story should help underscore thisgreat truth about your infinite source of supply.Visualize, if you will, a poor couple who have spenttheir entire lives living in the backwaters ofcivilization. Then imagine them suddenlytransported to a small village where, to theirastonishment, they discover that their new home isbeing lighted by electricity. Since they have hadno previous experience with that forcein fact theyhave never even seen an electric light before, they


are completely mesmerized by the little eight

candlepower electric bulbs which light their home.Several months pass by and eventually the couplestart to regard the light-bulbs as an accepted facetof modern life. However, one day a smooth-talkingsalesman appears at their door, telling them theireight candlepower electric bulbs are no longeradequate for their needs. He tells them they shouldbuy the new sixty candle-powered bulbs which havejust come on the market. Since the couple has nowbecome slightly more adventuresome, they agree tolet the salesman demonstrate his newfangled

product. As soon as the new bulb is plugged in andthe electricity turned on, the couple becomestransfixed once again; for not only does the new bulbemit a light, it actually illuminates the entire room.Never in their wildest fantasies had the couple everimagined that the source of the new flood ofillumination had been there all the time. Nor hadthey realized this enormously increased light couldoriginate from the same current which fed their littleeight candlepower bulb.

Its strange! We smile at the naivetdemonstrated by this poor couple, but the truth is,most of us are even less aware of our own power,than this couple was of the power of electric current.For like the couple in the story, we never even dreamthat the infinite current which surrounds us couldflood our lives with a light more magnificent thanthe most powerful light bulb ever devised. We nevergrasp the simple truth that all we need to do toimprove our results is to plug a larger, moreprosperous idea into the infinite current of life.94 Expect An Abundance

Instead, most of us strangle our supply withenergy-impoverished thoughts of doubt and fear,which entirely cutoff the inflow of prosperity.I want to exhort you, therefore, to resolve tochange your habitual pattern of thinking now. Thatsright, change it now, and remember, the stream ofplenty always flows towards the open, expectantmind. You must understand you already have in

substance, if not in physical form, everythingnecessary to produce prosperity in your materialworld. The two determining factors for you to attainthe results you want are:1) desire, and2) expectation.Up to this point you might have been living theway the masses live their entire lives, simplybecause you are harboring the false assumption thatdesire is the only thing which you need to reach yourgoal. But you must understand, if your desire is not

combined with the expectation that you will receivewhat you desire, you will find yourself continuallyfrustrated and disappointed whenever you beginworking toward any kind of material goal.When you cast your mind back over theexperiences of your own life, you will soon realizethat whenever you did reach a desired goal, you notonly desired that goal but you actually expected toattain it as well.Let me repeatdesire without expectation isnothing more than wishful thinking and as we have

Expect An Abundance 95already pointed out, since the vast majority of peoplewish positive but expect negative, they seldom attainwhat they are after.In his magnificent book The Science of GettingRich, the author, Wallace D. Wattles, gave us anexcellent definition of desire. He said: Desire isthe effort of the unexpressed possibility withinseeking expression without through your action.In other words, your ideal, dream or goalthis

wealth you wish to see materializecan onlybecome a desire once it has been properly plantedin the subconscious mind. However, once yourdesire has been firmly established, it is the expectantattitude which ensures that your goal or dream isnot uprooted or replaced by any opposing orcompeting ideas.In an effort to help you kindle this expectantattitude toward real wealth, let us journey togetherthrough some of the preceding chapters in this book.As you will remember, we began by discussingmoney. We attempted to understand the truenature of money and we arrived at the conclusionit is a useful, obedient servant. However, like allservants, we learned it is useful to us only when itis being employed. Therefore, we concluded, moneymust always be kept working or otherwisecirculating. For if it is not, as we have alreadymentioned, it will become as useless as oldnewspapers stashed away in an attic.Next, we explored the idea relating to exactlyhow much money you want. You become aware96 Expect An Abundance

of the fact it is necessary to be very specific abouthow much money you need, to provide the thingsyou want, to live in the style you choose. Once thisfigure had been decided upon, we then examined theimportance of building the image of ourselvesalready in possession of this wealth, on the screenof our conscious mind. We also talked briefly aboutthe manner in which images are formed and the role

they play in our lives.Then we examined the idea of consciousnessand how it was imperative to develop the prosperitywhich we seek in our mind first, before we can everattain it in our bankbooks. We learned how we hadto bathe our subconscious minds in a concept ofprosperity and how we had to see wealth as beingalready in our possession.In the chapter Let Go And Let God, we becameaware we were co-creators. We became aware ofhow we had, in our conscious mind, the ability to

choose any thoughts we wanted, to build any imageswhich we chose to build. We then learned how wecould turn that image over to our subconscious mind(the spiritual center of our being, and that part of uswhich takes any idea or image we give to it, thenwillingly accepts it and instantly begins to move itinto physical form in our world). We discovered thatwhen we truly understand this creative process oflife and our role in it expectation becomes a naturalmind-set, regardless of how things might appear in

our outside world or what others might be saying tous. We were told this absolute and unshakeable faithor belief in the fact that our images are moved intoform, is essential if we are to become successful in

Pat And Johns Story

As I was writing these lines, I received a

telephone call from a beautiful couplePat andJohnwhom I would definitely number among myclose friends. They called to tell me they weremoving into their new home the following Tuesday,and I was elated to hear this delightful news. Yousee, less than two months earlier, I spentapproximately five hours talking with them aboutthe image-making concept and the awesome powerof the Expectant Attitude. During the course ofthe conversation, I asked John what he wanted morethan anything else in the world, and, after a long

period of silence, he looked me squarely in the eyeand said, I would like Pat, Toni (Pats daughter)and me to be in a house of our own by Christmasand I would like my son to spend Christmas day withus. (Although Johns son lives with his mother, heand John have a very warm relationship.) I thenasked him why he didnt just go out and make hisdream become a reality. He replied he couldnt,because he lacked the money to do so. I then hadthe audacity to remind John, that all things arepossible for those who believe, and therefore, he

definitely could make his dream come true; perhapshe just didnt know how to go about doing it. Thethree of us then spent about an hour discussing thekind of house they wanted, until we all had a veryclear image of their dream home etched upon thescreens of our minds. We talked about Expectationand I explained to them that many good things wouldbegin to happen for them the instant that they beganto Expect to be in the house for Christmas.

Sure enough, the first thing that happened tothem once this new attitude permeated theirconsciousness, was that both their minds moved overto the How To side of the ledger. New ideas beganto flow like water, and questions came forth in rapidsuccession. How much would a house like this cost?How much would they have to put down? Wherewould they find such a house? To get answers totheir questions, they needed the expertise of a realestate agent; I suggested John call NatalieKopmana lady I know who is a real estateprofessionaland tell her of his dream. He shouldask her what he would need in the way of financesto make his dream or image become a reality.Finally, I told him he would have to get busyfocusing all of his conscious attention on earningthe amount of money he would need to achieve hisgoal; and he would have to actually Expect to earnwhatever the amount wasand in the allotted time.Surprisingly, it turned out that the amount of moneythey required was far less than the figure they hadpreviously thought it would be.Moreover, since John and Pat are bothcommissioned sales people, their road to achievingthis financial goal was not riddled with as manyobstacles as is the road for many other people.Nevertheless, without going into detail about themany hurdles they did have to overcome, suffice itto say, with Natalies help, Pat and John succeeded.Next Tuesday they move into their new house, nextSaturday is Christmas day. Just before I hung-up the

receiver, I congratulated them on their new homeand I asked John if his son would be spendingChristmas day with them. Quietly, but with a voice104 Expect An Abundance

the idea of Vibration, just stretch out one of yourarms straight in front of you. Then hold it perfectlystill. While you are holding it still and are unable toperceive any motion in that arm at all, know thatthe electrons which compose the arm, are moving,shaking, quivering, or vibrating, at the rate of186,300 miles per second.The arm appears still to you, but in reality it isin a constant state of motion. Of course, althoughsuch motion is imperceptible to the naked eye, undera high-powered microscope it would become very

apparent, indeed.Now, begin to shake your arm. You, yourself,are now causing the arm to vibrate. It was alreadyvibrating of its own accord, in obedience to the Lawof Vibration (which teaches that everything is inconstant motion). But you have stepped up, orincreased, the rate of that vibration. Even the good holds somebad for them. They dwell on the bad and thenegative. They think about it, anticipate it, expectit, and invariably they receive what they have been

seeking. Due to the negative vibration which theykeep themselves in, they of course attract othermiserable personalities to them. As you are alreadyaware, misery loves company.Their state of mind can be compared to theperson who, upon being asked how he felt, said,I feel alright today,

Negative personalities are depressing toeveryone around them. Their faces take on theexpression, in physical form, of the negativethoughts which they are holding in their minds. Eachday, one can observe such individuals passing onthe street. No cheer, no joy radiates from themjust gloom, frowns and hostility. Having createdtheir own hell for themselves, they seem to enjoywallowing in it.114 The Law Of Vibration And Attraction

The law of Polarity and Relativity states that forevery positive there is an equal and opposite

negative. Therefore, both of these personality typesare necessary, so you can develop the awareness todistinguish one from the other, and in that manner,choose the one which will advance you in life.You do have Free Will. You can choose whichof these two personality types you wish to adopt.Therefore, if a person is constantly negative, buttires of that state, the person may, through awarenessand proper effort, change himself into a positivepersonality type of individual.Understand thisThe Law of Vibration will give

people the awareness they require, to make thepersonality changes they desire.The Brain The Body

The human body, believe it or not, is one of themost efficient electrical instruments in this entireuniverse. The human brain, similarly, is probablythe most efficient electrical instrument ever created.Both are truly marvels.The brain is the part of the body where all mannerof frequencies are transformed from one frequencylevel into another. In the brain, for example,

sensations are transformed into muscular action.Sound, heat, light and thought are also, each in theirturn, transformed into other frequencies, eachaffecting the body.Within the brain there are centers which controlThe Law Of Vibration And Attraction 115

and regulate the functioning of all organs and partsof the body. By means of the proper stimulation ofthese centers, the functioning of the organs maythereby be controlled. In our seminars, we refer to

To begin to understand itsfunctioning you must undertake the study of the Lawof Vibration.Since the early 1940s, we have had at ourdisposal the EEG (electroencephalograph), whichreads the electrical activity of the brain, and the ECG(electrocardiograph), which traces the electricalchanges which occur during heart contractions.Therefore, vibrations are certainly not somethingwhich are new to us. Indeed, all of us have anawareness of them. However, the problem which weencounter is that the vast majority of people are notaware of the connection between their vibrations andtheir results in life.It is, unfortunately, a very common sight to seepeople in bad or confused vibrations, busilyattemptingthrough forceto achieve good results.However, due to the negative vibration which theyare in, they are continually being bombarded by allmanner of negative people and situations, which bylaw, are being attracted to them. other through the medium of the electron.(Resonance as a field of study, is concerned withthe electromagnetic fields surrounding objects.)For example, we find a globe in a chandelier willvibrate when in resonance with a certain key on apiano; yet it will not vibrate to any other note onthe piano keyboard.The two objects under discussion are composedof entirely different material and they havecompletely different shapes. Still, they are inresonance with one another, due to the fact their

ultimate magnetic fields are the same. They arewithin the same sphere of relative motion, and thisholds true, irrespective of their size, shape, or theelements of which they are composed.All electromagnetic waves, or quantums, havetheir own particular rate or frequency, whichcorresponds to the number of changes in directionthey make per second. Everything in thisuniverse is connected to everything else in thisuniverse, just as the water that boils is connected tothe steam into which it transmutes, and the steam isconnected to the ether or air into which it changes.You too are connected to everything in theuniverse. The only physical differencewhich exists between one thing and another, relatesto the density or the amplitude of their vibration.Therefore, as soon as you choose certainthoughts, your brain cells are affected. affected by that vibration, whether you realize it ornot. Have you ever noticed, for example, howpeaceful you feel (vibrate) while walking alone inthe woods?The Law operates exactly in the same way in themental realm. For when a person thinks a thought,it means the person has consciously orunconsciously started a group of brain cells vibratingabnormally. Once these brain cells, being things,begin to vibrate abnormally, they throw off a waveof electronic energy which moves out seeking a

may, or may not know, the cause of your own anger).If you do not understand what has happened, youwill be at a loss to change the conditions whichcaused the effect in the first place.The same principle applies to all mentalvibrations. As soon as a person starts to think, hestarts brain cells vibrating. Energy is released,therefore, in the form of electrons which travel outaccording to the intensity of the thought involved.Whoever stops that energy, is affected by it. But bearin mind, the only thing which stops a thought, is

that which resonates with that thought. which it will expand or grow.I believe you are all aware of this fact: everythingin the universe is governed by a basic lawEithercreate or disintegrate. Therefore, it follows that, ifsomething is not in the process of growing, it must,by the law of its being, be dying. For example, solong as the acorn is kept out of the earth, it is slowlybut surely disintegrating. However, as soon as youplant the acorn in the earth, the patterned plan orthe vibratory rate of the acorn sets up an attractiveforce and the acorn begins to attract everything thatvibrates in harmony with it. If you were able toobserve with the naked eye exactly what is takingplace, you would see a parade of particles ofenergya never-ending stream of themmarchingin a very orderly manner toward the acorn. As theycame in contact with the molecules making up theacorn, they would join, marry, become one, and ofcourse, the acorn would expand, become larger,grow.Now consider thisif you were to put two dropsof water and two drops of oil on an arborite tableand then you were to move them together, the twodrops of water would resonate and become onelarger drop of water, as they came in contact witheach other. the water toward the oil, they would actually repeleach other because they are not in harmoniousvibration. Likewise, with the acorn, the only thingswhich join with the acorn are those particles of

energy which are vibrating in harmony with it. Allthe other particles of energy, which make up theearth, are repelled.As the acorn expands from the never-endingstream of molecules which are attracted to it, littleshoots begin to come out of the bottom and out ofthe top of it. These shoots, in turn, begin to developinto roots. As they grow or expand and burst throughthe earth into the earths atmosphere, this attractiveforce continues, and particles of energy from theatmosphere are attracted to it (just as the particles

of energy in the earth were attracted to it). As theacorn continues to expand, at some point it ceasesto be an acorn and it begins to become an oak tree.The roots, the trunk, the bark, the branches, thetwigs, and the leaves, are all in the universe and theyare attracted to the acorn, because of the nucleus orthe patterned plan which rests within the seed.Now, unlike the human creature, the acorn doesnot have the ability to change its vibratory rate. Itcan therefore only grow into what it has been

programmed to grow into; namely, an oak tree. Youare much like the acorn in many respects. Forexample, you are also a seed, relative to the wholescheme of things. However, the difference betweenyou and the acorn is that since you are a co-creator,you can choose your own programming. Therefore,the image you choose to hold, on the screen of yourconscious mind, and plant deeply in the treasury ofThe Law Of Vibration And Attraction 127

your subconscious mind is the patterned plan or thenucleus which determines what you will eventuallygrow into. It dictates the vibration you will be inand also controls what you will attract to you andwhat you will repel.This is an orderly universe; nothing happens byaccident. The images which you plant in yourmarvelous mind instantly set up an attractive force,which governs your results in life. You mustremember though, if your image is continuallyfluctuating, you will continually be growing into

something different and that sets in motion a mostchaotic process. Unfortunately, those individualswho are unaware of these very exact laws areplanting images of plenty in their minds one minuteand then images of poverty the next. They arecontinually switching vibrations, so they areattracting good things one minute and then badthings the next. The sad truth is, the vast majorityof people spend their entire lives oscillating betweenthese two extreme positions, with the resulting effectthat their lives become disordered and chaotic to the

nth degree.Although it is true that everything you will everwant is already here, it is up to you to get intoharmony with it. Clearly, you will never get intoharmony with prosperity, if you insist upon holdingimages of lack and limitation in the storehouse ofyour marvelous mind. Since you are alwaysmagnetized toward something, it follows it can neverbe anyone elses fault, when something comes intoyour life you supposedly do not want. THE RISK-TAKERSThe days of defending your presentpossessions and positions are gone forever.Therefore, from this day forward, you will neverhave to concern yourself with such problematicissues as maintaining your present job, orkeeping up your current standard of living.Instead, you will put the things which can gowrong on the defensive, and you will put the things

which must go right, in ready formation for theattack. As of today, you are a dynamic, vigorousrisk-taker, whose eyes are always turned toward yourstrengths and assets, rather than toward yourweaknesses and liabilities. Henceforth, you willwake up in the morning, thinking only of ways todo the things you want to do, rather than wakingup thinking of all the reasons why you cannot dothose things.As of today, you will think repeatedly of themany achievements which you are going to

accomplish in the future, that are vastly superior toanything you have ever done in the past. Clearly,these are the results that can only be obtained if youare first willing to take some kind of a risk. Believeme, once you undertake this process, it wont be longbefore you start winningand in a big way. Youshould understand, however, that as you becomeincreasingly involved in the risk-taking process, youwill find yourself forced to draw upon resourceswhich you previously didnt even realize you

possessed. At first, this may prove very frighteningto you. Nevertheless, you must always remember132 The Risk-Takers

you will never hear of, read about, or see anyonewho achieves anything of greatness in his or her ownlife, without first taking some kind of a risk.As a case in point, just consider the monumentalrisks which all of our great religious leaders haveundertaken during the course of their heroic lives.

Then stop and reflect upon the enormous risks whichall of our great business leaders have alsoundertaken, during the span of their illustriouscareers. Finally, as you seriously meditate uponthese stupendous accomplishments, you will becomeincreasingly aware of the fact that you too mustbecome a risk-taker for you to develop the greatnessyou were born with. Moreover, you shouldunderstand, that in truth, no genuine satisfaction inlife can ever be attained by you or anyone else, whosimply refuses to take risks. For the life of anyone

who chooses to live with extreme caution will neveramount to anything more than a succession of dull,soporific days, continuing on, without interruption.The Diving Board Analogy

To help you grasp the full implication of what Iam saying, consider the following analogy. Just castyour mind back to the time when you were a childand attempt to recall the degree to which youadmired the neighborhood kid who went right upthe ladder, and dived off the high diving boardwithout any hesitation whatsoever. Then see if you

can recall the feelings which you harbored inyourself, as you watched him take that first riskyleap into the water below. If you are like most ofThe Risk-Takers 133

us, you probably lost just a little bit of your ownself-respect at that time, until finally, out of sheerembarrassment, you too mustered up enoughcourage to jump. Finally, see if you can recollecthow good you felt once you actually made the plungeand proved to the world that you could do it too.Now that you have taken your mind on this

mental journey through your past, bring it forwardto the present time. Let it become fully aware of thelegions of men and women today wholike theyoung child looking longingly at the high divingboardwould dearly love to quit their jobs, set outon an independent path and do their own thing.However, due to their overwhelming fear of failure,these unfortunate people never quite work up enoughcourage to step out and actually take the plunge. Asa result, such individuals miss out on many of the

opportunities that life affords us all, and what is evensadder, they never get a chance to plumb thedepths of their own innate resources. Since theyare afraid they might not make it, afraid they mightlose, afraid they might fail, they simply choose tomaintain the status quo and do nothing. The ironyis, however, that even if a person should assiduouslyattempt to avoid all risks, he or she will stillinevitably end up failing from time to time! But thepoint is, so what? What difference does it reallymake? After all, failing does not make us afailure, and the only time we do become a failureis when we decide to stop trying any more.Therefore, even if we should falter along the way,we never really fail because we always retain thecapacity to try once more.134 The Risk-Takers

Flip Wilsons Story

Flip Wilson, the famous comedian, is best knownfor his ability to make people laugh. But here is what

he said in a somewhat more serious vein, about hisown experience with the risk-taking process. I felldown and got up, I fell down and got up. For sixteenyears I did practically nothing else but fall downand get up.Even so, do you think Flip Wilson ever thoughtof himself as a failure? You bet your life he didnt.For if he had, he would never have found the courageto try just one more time, and you and I wouldprobably have never even heard his name!You should understand, at this juncture, that as

soon as you seriously set a big goal for yourself,you are going to become involved in a process ofrisk-taking which will add a dimension ofexcitement, indeed a whole new flavor to the courseof your life. But at the same time you should beaware that as you start engaging in more risk-takingbehavior, the majority of people will be trying toavoid it at all costs. In other words, instead oftaking meaningful risks, most people will continueto ensure themselves in a series of emptycompromises. These compromises, in turn, will

ultimately have the effect of reducing their existenceto the level of a meaningless charade. To understandhow this phenomenon operates, just consider thepeople whom you know who have compromisedwhen buying their new home. Why did theycompromise? you askbecause they were afraidthat they wouldnt be able to make the mortgageThe Risk-Takers 135

payments on that dream home they truly wantedto live in.

Then turn your mind to the veritable armies ofindividuals, who remain in positions at work whichthey find dull and unrewarding. Why do they stay?simply because they fear they would not be able tocope with the position which they would truly loveto tackle. The irony is, of course, if these peoplewould simply put themselves out on a limbbygoing after that better job or, that dream home, orwhatever else it is they truly desirethey wouldthen demand a commensurately better performancefrom themselves. As a result, they would soondiscover that the risk they had taken was actuallypaying big dividends in all aspects of their life.The Young Millionaires

Several years ago, I read an excellent book onthe subject of risk-taking. It was entitled The YoungMillionaires, and it contained the true-life storiesof eighteen individuals, each of whom had earnedin excess of one million dollars. In fact, some ofthese people had actually earned many millions ofdollars, over and above the one million dollar mark,during the course of their highly successful careers.Throughout the book, the author made manyinteresting observations about the law of financialsuccess, but the most important one was the onewhich he kept coming back to: namely, althoughthese individuals came from a variety of differentbackgrounds and although each had earned theirmoney in a different way, they all shared one thingin common.136 The Risk-Takers

What was that one thing? you ask. Simply put,it was thiseven though everything they owned wasriding on the outcome of virtually every majorbusiness decision which they made, none of themconsidered themselves to be taking risks. Thereason they didnt, he went on to explain, wasbecause they were living their lives as though itwere impossible to fail! (Note, however, that in theeyes of most people, there would be no question thatthese individuals were taking tremendous risksandon an almost daily basis).

Fighter-Pilot StudyIn a similar vein, research done many years agowhich investigated the lives of fighter pilots inWorld War II, determined conclusively that,contrary to what you might think, many of the pilotswho played it safe during the war, were amongthe first to be killed in combat. By way of contrast,the study also found that, practically withoutexception, not only were the surviving acesindividuals who refused to play it safe, but they

were the greatest risk-takers throughout the war.Indeed, as one has the opportunity to observe theperformance of individuals from all walks of life, itsoon becomes evident that whoever plays it safein life, dies, and dies relatively young. For althoughmany of these individuals remain clinically alivefor numerous years, when their hearts finally ceasebeating it is a mere formality, because the truth is,they have never really lived!By now you have probably said to yourself, Allof this sounds eminently reasonable, but why shouldThe Risk-Takers 137

it be?, or Why are so many of us destined to gothrough our entire lives in this condition of selfimposedmisery, simply because we are unable, orunwilling, to take meaningful risks? Well, it seemsto me if we will only cast our minds back to theformative years of our own lives, we will soonrecognize where this reluctance to engage in risktakingbehavior has its source. Once we have arrived

at that point, I believe we will have come a longway in our attempt to combat, and ultimatelyneutralize, this insidious problem. I exhort you topay very strict attention to the information whichwill now be set-out before you.When you were a young childin fact, even asfar back as the time when you were an infantyourparents desperately wanted to see you succeed. Asa consequence of this wish, they were terrified bythe prospect you might somehow fall short of theirexpectations of you. This was perfectly natural, in

light of the fact they loved you very dearly.Unfortunately, however, it motivated them toattempt to shelter you from every potential harmwhich might come up in your life. For example,when you first started to walk, they were right byyour side and as soon as you even looked like youwere going to stumble, they quickly grabbed ontoyou, so you would not fall and hurt yourself.Similarly, when you engaged in your first fistfight with the little terror next door, your parentswere there to soothe the bruised feelings. They

probably tried to console you by saying You wereright dear, and the other wrong - the other child wasa bully. Next, they probably said something like,138 The Risk-Takers

In the future, dear, be very careful and try to stayaway from kids like that. Moreover, if yourupbringing was typical of that of most of us, yourfirst bicycle probably brought with it repeatedwarnings such as: be careful, dont fall, watchout, and so on. In this manner, you were slowly

but surely programmed to make every move inyour life with a brilliant caution light burningbrightly on the screen of your impressionable youngmind.You must gain the awareness, therefore, thatregardless of what anyone may have told you to thecontrary, none of us was ever born with a fear oftaking risks. As I have clearly indicated above, thefear of taking risks is something which we learned,only after we entered this wonderful world of ours.In fact, contrary to what many people havemistakenly been led to believe, the human beingif left to his or her own devicesis a born risk-takerwho is naturally programmed to follow the pathwhich will eventually lead to greatness in his or herown life.But, be that as it may, before you embark on thisexciting path of risk-taking, you should rememberto never lose sight of the fact that becoming a risktakerdoes not mean becoming an irresponsibleindividual. If you really think it through, you willrealize these two concepts are mutually exclusive.For becoming a risk-taker means to actcourageously, and to act courageously isconsiderably different from acting foolishly (whichis how a person acts when he or she behaves in anirresponsible manner). You might encounter a fewThe Risk-Takers 139

situations where the line separating these twoconcepts becomes extremely narrow. Nevertheless,it is absolutely essential you never cross over that

line, inadvertently, or otherwise!Another thing which you must be aware of, isthat risk-taking is always a relative term. In otherwords, behavior which represents a risk to oneperson may not necessarily represent a risk toanother person. Moreover, if the same behavior werecarried out by a third party, one might even betempted to deem it irresponsible conduct. It is clear,therefore, that one must be able to distinguish amongthese different concepts with a significant degreeof accuracy. In order to achieve this, it becomes

necessary to go back to one of the basic principlesinvolved in the process of self-development.You must be able to see yourself, with your

inner eye, already in possession

of the good you desire.

Risk-Taking vs. Irresponsibility

People who are irresponsible very rarelyaccomplish anything of importance and quite oftenthey invite real harm to themselves. They mightoccasionally become involved in some activities

which are successful, but these results occur soinfrequently, and they are so overshadowed bynegative results that they are hardly even worthmentioning.Consider, for example, the individual who divesoff a high cliff and into a shallow body of water,140 The Risk-Takers

simply because he has been dared to do so by agroup of his peers. Although the person in question

is afraid to dive, for some strange reason he is evenmore afraid of what the others might say to him, oreven think about him, if he chose not to dive.Clearly, the persons fear of diving is perfectlyreasonable, in view of the fact he has had absolutelyno training as a diver. Furthermore, as a result ofhis lack of training, when he does contemplate whatmight happen if he did dive, he visualizes himselfbeing very seriously injured. Obviously, for anindividual such as this to go ahead and dive, wouldbe extremely foolishto say the leastand the

persons actions would have to be consideredirresponsible by anyones standards.On the other hand, however, if this same persontrained to become a professional diver and if he wereskilled at taking all of the various factors intoconsideration (i.e. if he were able to visualizehimself successfully going through all of thenecessary motions such as swimming to shore,stepping back on land unharmed, etc.), then it wouldbe a totally different situation. For although theperson would still be taking a definite risk, no one

could accuse him of acting in an irresponsiblemanner.Consider for a moment, the stunt people whowork in the movie industry. These individuals areconstantly performing dangerous acts. In fact, thatis precisely what they get paid for. But do not bedeceived! For the men and women who performthese stunts are not amateurs by any means. Theyare all competent professionals, highly skilled in theThe Risk-Takers 141

performance of their dangerous trade. They always

check and then double check every calculation,before they make even the simplest move. As a resultof these precautions, they are very rarely everinjured. No, there cannot be any question about itstunt people are Risk-Takers to be sure, but theyare very rarely irresponsible individuals!Investments

Now, turn your attention to the person whoinvests his or her hard-earned savings in a ventureabout which he or she knows practically nothing.

Perhaps someone, possibly a relative whom theperson may have held in high esteem, suggested thisinvestment was a great idea and the investors stoodto earn an extraordinarily high rate of return on it.Assume, moreover, that despite the persons verygrave misgivings about going into the venture at all,he is also being strongly motivated by greed, to seekthe highest possible rate of return which can beearned on the money invested. Finally, suppose thatthe tremendous fear of loss notwithstanding, theperson decides to go ahead and makes the investmentanyway. What happens next?After the investment has been made, most of thepersons waking hours will probably be spent:1) worrying about the investment, and2) visualizing himself reduced to a state of abjectpoverty.It is abundantly clear, therefore, that this sort ofbehavior must be deemed the polar opposite of142 The Risk-Takers

financial responsibility and the person involvedmust be considered imprudent and irresponsible,rather than a bona fide risk-taker. The usualoutcome in a situation such as this is predictable, ifnot pleasing. The individual in question loses themoney, not to mention the former friendship of theindividual who originally suggested the investment.(The reason is that foolish, irresponsible peopleseldom blame themselves for making such errors.)On the oth
