Belleville has won agold medal and second honor in past ecorntests when the subject appealed amore to girls than do battles of the ICivil War. However, earnest work has abeen done this year and it is hopedone of the schools of this district willbe successful.

Washington, D. C.-Postmaster Gen.eral Burleson joined the "shop early'campaign when he issued Christmassuggestions with the injunction: "Mailyour parcels early." Official sanctionfor the use on parcels of the caution:"Do not open until Christmas" alsowas announced.

Names. and addresses of sendersshould be written on each package andalso included in the package, the sug-gestions say. Postomces annually areconfronted with the problem of dlspos-ing of thousands of parcels that havelost their tags or outer covering, andbear nothing to identify the sender oraddressee.

The suggestions point out that booksmay be sent by parcels post, packagesweighing eight ounces or less taking arate of one cent for each two ounces orfraction thereof. Regular zone ratesapply above that weight.

Additional rules applying specificallyto Christmas packages are:

"You may insert in parcel mail writ-ten or printed inscriptions such asMerry Christmas,' 'llappy New Year,or 'With best wishes.' On fly leaves ofbooks you may write simple,dedicatoryInscriptions not of a personal nature.

"If you desire a written communica-tion to accompany your parcel encloseit in an envelope, affixing first classpostage and tie securely to outside ofparcel. Place the stamps to cover thepostage of the parcel upon its wrapperand those to pay postage of the com-munication on the envelope."
