School apart from other schools of music and affords our students the opportunity to finely-tune repertoire not typically explored in a chamber orchestra setting. The performances/receptions take place on Thursday, December 5.
The highly successful “Sharing the Spotlight” series comprised of performances pairing faculty with students continues this season. Hearing our gifted young students in concert alongside their teachers is particularly gratifying so I urge to you take special note.
We look forward to seeing you often this season at several of our not-to-be-missed performances. Your presence and support mean a great deal to us!
Sincerely,

Dear Friends,
As the summer concludes, students and faculty return to campus, school begins and our concert schedule commences in short order. I encourage you to mark your calendars now and plan on joining us for yet another season of extraordinary concerts at The Shepherd School of Music.
We are all thrilled to be moving toward completion of our new music building as the 2019-2020 academic year begins. Planning is underway for the opening celebration anticipated for the fall of 2020. This facility will complete the Rice University Music and Performing Arts Center and provide an extraordinary new complex to showcase the artistry of our faculty and students. The centerpiece of the facility will be a beautiful and intimate 600-seat theater with rehearsal halls, practice rooms and faculty studios. With the theatre’s European-style, multi-tiered design and generous orchestra pit for musicians, it will be unique among U.S. university and conservatory facilities and a hallmark venue to welcome our supporters from the Houston community.
The fall season begins with our annual homage to the victims of 9/11. The Rice Chorale, under the direction
