Hello Everyone!
First of all I want to say how very proud of all the Clubs and their members in Central District for all the hard work you have
done this year.
The fair went great, and we had many more people pass the booth in our new location. We had so many more sign up for
lessons. The list has been reviewed and prospective contacts have been sent to the clubs nearest the addresses given on the
sign‐up sheet. We hope you have good luck reaching those contacts and hope they come to your lessons.
Central District sold the most tickets to the state festival and chance on winning the car. We won us the victory dance!.
Congrats to all of you who worked so hard selling tickets. Bobby Willis will be the caller for the Victory Dance on Sunday 10‐
29‐17 to be held from 2 to 4pm at the Lions Hall on 10th street. We hope everyone comes to celebrate our WIN. You won it
so enjoy it. And the state board will be doing all the work to make sure we all have fun!!
It is almost the end of the year and YOU chose a new board at conclave last month. We really feel it’s an amazing group of
people and know that they will do a good job for you. We welcome Bill and Melissa Hancock, their board. Soooo…Kick in to
help them and keep up the good work we all have been doing to grow our hobby. We know the new board will continue to
encourage the clubs in our district to keep growing.
Steve and I have enjoyed working with everyone the past 4 years. We just have a few more busy months ahead and then we
will start another year. We have a couple of Anniversary dances coming up, so please come enjoy them. Also there will be
Halloween dances, Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas Parties etc. We encourage you to go visit other clubs, enjoy their
special dances and the wonderful food. Check out the cdsda.com web site for their flyers and calendar of events. We hope
to see you at all of the celebrations.

*Publicity Report
Hey all,
What can I say, another month has flown by. It started off with three exhibitions on one day. On October
the 7th, early in the morning, we helped the Jones OK folks celebrate the “Old Timers Day” It sure was a fun
way to kick off the day. Sonya Savell‐Jones did a wonderful job at getting the crowd into it. Great job Sonya
and the dancers that came to help out. Then we high‐tailed it to the 75th Midwest City/Tinker Anniversary
party and entertained the crowds there. The dancers looked so beautiful and gallant upon that big stage in
the air in their red, white and blue. Jim Howard was great at keeping all the dancers on their toes. And the
finale exhibition of the day was the Shawnee’s “Trains, Planes and Automobiles” and it was a very hot, but
a successful day. Jim Wolsey kept everyone cooled off with his cool calling. A very big thank you to Sonya
and the Jims for calling and a very big yellow rock to all the wonderful, hardworking dancers (some dancers
made all three exhibitions) that made all this possible.
On Saturday, October 21st Shawnee did an exhibition called “Boo on Bell” I heard they all had a wonderful
time showing off our hobby. A big thanks to those of you that helped out.
As a reminder, there are several clubs doing lessons, if you know of someone wanting to take lessons or if
you need a refresher please see the website for those clubs.
Get out there and make someone smile and dance.

Message from Verlin and Karla Bell, Newsletter Directors:
Happy November
We have included a copy of the minutes from the state round up located at the end of this article. We felt it
important that you all know how hard the state works for each district in Oklahoma. The minutes of Central
District Conclave were not available at the time of publication for the November Grand Square. We hope your
club delegates filled you in on the meeting. A new slate of officers were elected:
Delegates are: Daniel Meyers and Kathy delegate 1, Steve and Stacy Palmer delegate 2, Sherrie Rodriquez
delegate 3, Nancy Pellow delegate 4. Joyce and Bill Stout elected as Social Secretary, Robert Orman and Carol
Palmer elected as Treasurer, Helen Tremain elected as Executive Secretary, Roger Power and Amy Dodds elected
as Vice President, Bill and Melissa Hancock as President. Please forgive me if I have missed spelled any names or
missed a partner as I took this from my own notes and may have missed someone. They will be working
together to name the appointed positions for next year.
We would also like to thank all the writers of club articles for being so prompt in getting us your articles. We
think it will help get the Grand Square to you in a timely manner. Sonya has notified us that she has a new
server for our cdsda.com web site. We look forward to serving you next year as your editors of the Grand
Square.
See you in a square real soon!! Karla and Verlin Bell, Editors, Grand Square
Laughter is the Best Medicine Numbers Lesson The day's lesson in Mr. Thomas's kindergarten class was numbers. He wrote a "1" on the board.
"Who knows what number this is?" he said. Several hands went up.
"Michael?" he said.
"That's a "1," Michael replied.
"Very Good. And who knows what comes after 1?" Fewer hands went up.
"Margaret?" Margaret replied "2."
"Very good. And what comes after 2?" Only a couple hands were raised. "Yvonne?"
"3," Yvonne replied. "Very Good," said Mr. Thomas.
"Now, what comes after 3?" she continued. Only Pat's hand was raised. "Pat?"
"4 comes after 3!" she said, enthusiastically.
"Very good. Mr. Thomas replied. Pat continued, "And after that comes 5, 6 and 7."
"That's right. Very good, Pat!"
"And after that, 8, 9 and 10!"
"Impressive!" said Mr. Thomas. "Where did you learn your numbers? "Well, you have a very caring and
attentive father," Mr. Thomas said.
"Yes, he's the best!" was Pat's reply.
"Did he teach you what comes after 10?" "Yes," Pat said. "Jack, Queen, King and Ace."

Husband Files Missing Person Report
Gilbert Parsons went to the police station to file a "missing person" report for his missing wife, this is a true
transcript of his conversation with the police officer.
Husband: I lost my wife Gale, she went shopping at Macy's and hasn't come back yet.
Officer: How tall is she?
Husband: I never checked.
Officer: Slim or healthy?
Husband: Not slim, can be healthy.
Officer: What color are Gale's eyes?
Husband: Never noticed.
Officer: Color of her hair?
Husband: That changes according to season.
Officer: What was she wearing?
Husband: Not sure whether it was a dress or a suit.
Officer: Was she driving?
Husband: Yes.
Officer: Color of the car? . . . . .
Husband: Silver Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 engine, automatic drive, 2013 plate. Scratch on the offside driver's
panel, crack in the front headlight ....... and then the husband started crying .....
Officer: Don't worry sir ... we will find your car.
Recipe of the Month: Frozen Strawberry Fruit Salad INGREDIENTS
1 lb. fresh strawberries, trimmed and halved
2/3 cup sugar, divided
1 pint heavy cream
2 pinches of salt
1 cup of half and half
1 cup of buttermilk, preferably whole
24 gluten free vanilla wafer cookies, crumbled to oyster cracker size pieces
1 cup chopped pecans, toasted
3 oz. mini marshmallows (about 2 cups)
PREPARATION
1. Put the strawberries, 1/3 cup sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water in a small saucepan and cook over
medium low heat, stirring occasionally, for 20 minutes, until the syrup is glossy red but still runny.
Allow to cool for 20 minutes. You should have 1 1/2 cups fruit and syrup.
2. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream with the remaining 1/3 sugar and the salt until peaks begin to
hold their shape.
3. Fold in half and half, buttermilk, cookies, toasted pecans and marshmallows until evenly combined.
(The marshmallows will mostly float, which is fine.)
4. Line a 3 quart loaf and with plastic wrap and pour the cream mixture into it.
5. Then pour in the fruit and syrup from one end of the pan to the other, but do not stir. The syrup and
fruit may float on the surface at first but will gradually sink through to the bottom.
6. Lightly cover the loaf pan with plastic wrap and place in the freezer until a cap of crystallized cream has
formed about an inch thick, about 2 1/2 hours.
7. Use a broad serving spoon to break up the cream and fold the ingredients together, taking special care
to lift the strawberry pulp up off the bottom.
8. With the back of the spoon, smooth the surface and return the pan to the freezer for 1 1/2 hours.
9. Fold again, freeze for another hour, and fold a third time. Allow to set for an hour more.
To serve, turn an entire loaf upside down onto an oval platter, surround it with greenery and flowers, and
slice off individual portions with a knife, warmed in hot water.

November 2017– Members’ Rights
As dance lessons are in progress at the Central District Square Dance Association (CDSDA) member clubs, Central
District will have new members who will be attending club meetings and if the past is any indication they will be
member club delegates at the Central District’s Conclaves and many will not know what to expect. Both are
deliberative assemblies.
This month let’s talk about your rights as a member of a deliberative assembly. Robert’s Rules of Order Newly
Revised (RONR), pages 1‐2 Defines the nature of the deliberative assembly. I’m not going to quote RONR here;
suffice to say it is a meeting in one room where simultaneous aural communication among all participants can
take place and decisions made are by a vote of voting members of the assembly.
Most of us are aware of the nature of a deliberative assembly / meeting; therefore, with the new administration
scheduling the Conclaves; just what are your rights as a delegate (member) of that assembly? Your rights as a
member delegate are the same as for a member of any assembly. I quote Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised
(RONR), p.3:
“A member of an assembly, in the parliamentary sense, as mentioned above, is a person entitled to full
participation in its proceedings, that is, the right to attend meetings, to make motions, to speak in debate, and
to vote. No member can be individually deprived of these basic rights of membership—or of any basic rights
concomitant to them, such as the right to make nominations or to give previous notice of a motion—except
through disciplinary proceedings. Some organized societies define additional classes of "membership" that do not
entail all of these rights.” (Edited for space).
Specifically; for the Conclaves each member club has the right to three delegates entitled to the rights in the
paragraph above, to attend, to make motions, to speak in debate and to vote. For some members of the
assembly these rights may be restricted. CDSDA’s appointed Executive Board members do not have a vote as
the bylaws state they are “non‐voting members”; however, if they are designated as a delegate for the member
club they belong to then they have all the rights of a member club’s delegate including the right to vote.
What happens if a member club’s delegate comes in late with the meeting under way? That member provided
he or she was designated as a delegate by the member club, in accordance with CDSDA’s bylaws prior to the
“call to order “of the meeting, has all the rights as any of the other delegates. The only way a member may be
denied any of these rights would be by a disciplinary action (seldom occurs) or the governing rules, such as the
bylaws, restrict those rights. Article VI‐Executive Committee “D” CDSDA’s bylaws have the requirements for the
registration of member club delegates:
D. “The names of certified delegates of each member club shall be furnished to the Association President
by January 1 and July 1 of each year. Names of alternate delegates shall be furnished prior to the time a
conclave is called to order. “
If a delegate has not been reported as above prior to “to the time a conclave is called to order”, that delegate
should not be recognized. Member Clubs should ensure their delegates names have been submitted prior to the
time the conclave is called to order.
Should you have questions you may email me at [email protected] or through CDSDA’s web‐site
Executive Board’s appointed officers listing. My answer(s) will be in accordance with RONR and CDSDA’s
governing documents.

Hello Everyone,
Our last Central District Clothing sale for the year will be Saturday October 28, 2017. Hopefully we will be seeing you there!!
We are really excited about our final sale for this year and hoping we can give away lots of square dance items. We always
accept monetary donations for the clothes we have or just because... We are looking forward to 2018 for another fun and
fabulous year!! Can you believe that it will be 5 years in 2018 for the Clothes Closet!!! Each year the sales seem to be getting
bigger and better. The next sale will be around March/April depending on the weather. I will keep you posted in the Grand
Square. The location of the clothing sale has moved to our house to our garage. Just until we can find a permanent location.
Address is 8201 NW 31st Terrace, Bethany, Oklahoma 73008. We are on the corner of Markwell and NW 31st Terrace. The
money raised by your generous donations will be going into the Central District building account fund.
There are several clubs in the district that have lessons going on. We want to set up our new dancers with clothes, so they
feel comfortable coming to our dances in style. We could use your help. Do you know of anyone that is leaving square
dancing and have clothes they may want to donate? If you have a phone number, I can call them. Several people over the
years have given me contact phone numbers, and its helped tremendously to keep our stock of items growing. Men's shirts
and ties are always needed. We never have enough of them. We could use anything for the Ladies in all sizes. Remember
how special you felt when you got an outfit, skirt or blouse when you first started dancing. I remember. Therefore, this is why
we do this. If you have a sack of clothes or a couple of items, it doesn't matter the amount folks, it all adds up. A perfect
opportunity to clean out those drawers and closets and donate all the things you don't wear anymore. Have your tastes
changed, maybe you are wearing longer skirts now but have several short skirts and petticoats that are taking up closet
space; maybe some of your tops or skirts no longer fit well and you want to downsize your wardrobe; maybe your closet
space is getting too small, no matter the reason we will gladly take anything you wish to donate. Not all districts have this
program. Our program has succeeded due to all of you and your donations. Thank you!! When dancers come through our
doors needing clothing i.e.: 1‐2 slips, belts or dresses/skirts and/or tops, it doesn't take long to deplete our supply. So please
go through and see what you can pass on to the district for other members and our new dancers.
My phone numbers are: home: 405‐470‐0868 and cell: 405‐443‐8614. Call me or text me and I can make arrangements for
dropping off or picking up your donations.
Kay Stewart, Central District Clothing Chairman

DISTRICT WIDE CHALLENGE
Well, I hope everyone is getting out and visiting as many clubs as possible. From the looks of things I think
everyone is having fun visiting other clubs. There is a complete list of when and where on our website
www.cdsda.com. The more clubs you visit the more fun you will have! You know from experience of how you
feel when you have visitors, well, return the favor. Let’s keep on dancing and traveling to other clubs. This is
going to be a fun year for everyone!
Are you having fun!
Can you believe it! Winter is just around the corner. The Holidays are fast approaching, and Christmas is just
around the corner. It was hard to decide on an education topic for this month, so I decided to tell you about an
experience I had during the Norman Silver Spur dance last Saturday (Oct. 21st).
Around 8:30 or so, the tornado sirens went off during a tip. The club decided to stay because we felt safer inside
the building than going out during the peak of the storm. Before we knew it, people were coming in off the
street. Seeing that we had our lights on and the cars, they assumed we were part of the designated storm
shelter. But we were not in that part of the building. At that time, they had not opened the storm shelter on the
other side of the building. I could not turn the families away and send them back out in the storm, so with the
warm embrace of square dancers, we invited them in out of the storm.
That was an experience, we had about 30 unexpected visitors and with the nerves a little rattled, our wonderful
caller, Bob Thomas, called a couple of singing calls and we entertained the guests. Easing their nerves and ours!
The kids loved it and actually wanted us to continue dancing. Thanks to the good Lord we are all okay!
Just as a reminder, square dancers are very giving and friendly towards everyone. We are willing to help others
in need, despite our own worries and issues. As the storm eased up and people started leaving we got a big
thank you from our guests. They never expected to be entertained while there’s a severe storm & tornadoes
around. One family gave me a big hug, especially the children, with a big thank you from their mother. It’s
wonderful being a square dancer and trusting in the Lord to keep us safe. By the way, Norman Silver Spur
might have gotten a couple of recruits out of the experience.
Education tip of the Month: Thou shalt always be thankful!

Following a full schedule in October Double Nickle Square Dance Club dance schedule for November will
dance four times in November; On Thursday November 2ND, 9TH, 16TH and November 30TH.
Double Nickle members and guests will be spending time
with our family and friends, thanking God for everything we
have especially on Thursday, November 23RD, THANKSGIVING
DAY. We hope you and yours will do the same at this special
time of the year.
At the November 2ND dance Double Nickle will hold their
election of officers during the half‐time pause. We would be
remiss if we didn’t mention Veterans Day, Saturday
November 11th. In 2017,
Veterans Day falls on a Saturday, so Friday, the 10th of November is considered a federal holiday. You know the guys and girls that have written that blank check to
defend our country and freedoms. Most of them would do it again. Double
Nickle will be dancing in honor of all veterans on Thursday November 9th.
The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on
November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day
and time each year for a moment of silence.”
Many other countries observe this day as “Remembrance Day” including our friends in Canada. In London
two minutes of silence are observed.
Save the date: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2017
Double Nickle’s 33RD Anniversary Dance, at the Will Rogers Senior Center, 3501 Pat Murphy Dr., Oklahoma
City; located In the Will Rogers Park Complex NW 36TH Street and Portland. 12:00 – 3:00 PM. We will have
a luncheon at 12:00 Noon and all Double Nickle members, active and inactive are invited. All Central
District dancers, callers and cuers are encouraged to be our guests. The menu hasn’t been established yet;
however, the club furnishes the meat and our members bring a dish to share.
Happy Thanksgiving and remember our veterans.
There are many days in November to celebrate or to use as dance themes during the month, to include November 29th: National Square Dance Day.

*Fun Timers
IT'S ALWAYS FUN AT FUN TIMERS!
Fun Timers had a very successful State ticket turn in and are so looking forward to all the festivities and seeing everyone at the State Festival in November, including our great group of students. About 10 members sold over 100 tickets. Some members will participate in the Style Show and others in the Exhibitions. Of course, BOB our caller, will be calling on the program. Jim and Ruth Ford are chairmen for a new State Program, the Hall of Fame, and presentation will be at 11 AM on the 4th. The October dance with the Celebrating Yellow theme resulted in a not just very colorful dance, but a high energy one as well. A square of visitors from Clinton, OK was a very nice surprise for the evening also. We are sure the Costume dance to take place after this writing will be fun and will announce the winners in the next newsletter. Some members made it to the Oklahoma Senior Cabaret performance in Moore which, every year, helps finance the purchase of hearing aids for those unable to afford them. The first performance ended in the audience taking shelter in the rest rooms when a tornado was sighted in Norman. All made it home safely. Central District Past President, Rita Reaves, was part of the cast, ages 55 to 86. Fun Timers are planning to participate in the Midwest City Veterans Day parade on NOVEMBER 10th. All dancers are welcome to join us. It is a special anniversary for both Tinker Air Force base and the Navy this year. The theme for the NOVEMBER 14th dance is CORNUCOPIAS. If you don't know what those are, you will by the end of the dance. It should be a very pretty Autumn evening. Since all will be full of Thanksgiving delights and leftovers, the club will be celebrating daylight savings time on NOVEMBER 28th by serving an 'early' BREAKFAST at the dance. Help us make welcome a guest caller that will be filling in for Bob for the evening. Fun Timers dance 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, with Grand March at 7 PM, at the Midwest City Senior Citizen's Center, 8251 E. Reno, behind the Fire Department. You can check out the club activities on Face Book and the club web site.

Hello All!
Spooky October is almost over and how about this weather? I love it! Got a couple of things going on with
the club. Our Halloween/Halfway dance is (was depending on when this get out there) October 28th. This is
our second one of these recently and our students really seem to be enjoying themselves and our
wonderful hobby. Their graduation will be sometime in November.
Speaking of November, Metro has canceled their dance on the 24th. We want to wish everyone a Happy
Thanksgiving and let you have time to enjoy your family.
Then there’s December. Metro Singles and Single Squares is having their Christmas Dinner Dance. Tickets
are on sale now. Tickets for the dinner and dance are $15.00. Dinner is served at 6:00 and rounds start at
7:30. Grand March will be at 8:00. Hope to see everyone there. I’ve seen the menu and it is going to be
YUMMY!!
Also in December, on New Year’s Eve is the Dynamic Duo of Sonya and Jeff. I don’t know all the details
about this one, but I do know that they are selling tickets and are planning on having a good time.
Sonya will be starting a new set of lessons after the first of the year. She will be doing Mainstream (for
those of us who still don’t know left from right and how to count to four) from 7:00‐8:00 and Plus from
8:00‐9:00. Lessons are on Monday night and are free to all. I’m sure we’ll need lots of angels. (Don’t
worry if your horns hold up your halo, you’ll still be welcome.)
I have one more thing to add, I meant to add it last month, but it was still a little upsetting.
Our club and many others lost a good friend and square dancer. Bob Marsala passed away toward the end
of September. He will be missed by all of us.
Let’s keep a smile on our face and dance a tip for Bob. I’m sure he’s out dancing somewhere having as
much fun as we are.
Hope to see you in a square!

Our club participated in the Mitch Park YMCA’s Senior Day on October 10th. The event was designed to
provide active aging adults the educational and physical opportunities that can help them live with greater
health and happiness. We were one of the many demonstrations and activities on the day’s agenda. The
audience really enjoyed watching us dance and several spectators accepted our invitation to join in a
square for a couple of the tips. We created quite an interest in our hobby and a few people signed up for
our January square dance lessons.
We had a great time at our Halloween Dance October 21st. The severe weather did not keep everyone
away; we still had 4 squares at the end of the evening.
We will not be having our dance on November 4th so we can all attend the State Festival.
Our dance on November 18th will be our Thanksgiving Dance.
December 2nd will be our Winter Dance.
We dance on the first and third Saturday of each month at the Edmond Rankin YMCA, 1220 South Rankin
Street, Edmond. Rankin Street is east of Boulevard and the YMCA is just north of 15th Street. Workshop
begins at 7:00 P.M. and Grand March is at 7:30 P.M. We'd love to have you join us.
See you in a square soon!
