thaNkS fOr a GrEat YEar!My year as Chamber Chairman is quickly coming to an end! I would like to
thank all of you for allowing me to serve as your Chair this year. It has been ablessing for me to serve you. I have met many wonderful people and have had theopportunity to do many different things. I have gained more from this experiencethan I have given.
My finance and executive committees have been such an asset for me this year.We have stayed on point and we have made both fair and tough decisions to keepour Chamber strong and resourceful for years to come. The Chamber staff is socapable and have given me the support and guidance that I needed to have asuccessful year. My thanks to Chris, Mary, Donna, Cassandra, Rachelle, Deborha andLovick for all that you do for Albany.
The annual meeting in January was a great success and we had a capacity crowdat the Hilton Garden Inn to start our year. In February I had an unexpected surgeryand was out of commission for a couple of weeks and the staff and volunteers atthe Chamber did not miss a beat! Thank you for that!
Some highlights of the year were: Star Student Luncheon, 40 under 40 Luncheon, Small Business of the Year,State of the Community Luncheon – new for 2014, Business Expo, and Institute for Leadership Developmentthat began in September of this year. Your Chamber has been busy and we will continue to promote events thatare important to the Albany Area!
My good friend, Ron Wallace, who was Chair-elect has been transferred to Tennessee and I will pass theChairmanship to Tommy Clark in January. Ron has done so much for the Albany area and his involvement asChairman of the Education Committee has been phenomenal. Ron, you will be missed, but we wish you thebest in your career.
I hope that you will remember 2014 as the year that we started to feel better about the Albany Area. We haveseen new businesses coming to town and new construction can be seen everywhere. I know that Albany has agreat future and if we remember that Attitude, Behavior, and Commitment can make all the difference in theworld, we will continue to thrive and improve as the leader of southwest Georgia.
I hope that you will have a kind heart and a peaceful mind in the New Year!

I can always find something interesting to do in Albany. But being open-minded is key. Whether I’m taking in the symphony, relaxing by the river, or playing guitar with friends, this city just moves me.

Meet Our Class of 2015Chris Hardy, President & CEO
Earlier this year we announced a new program of the Chamber called Institute for Leadership Development. The inaugural class began in August
with an Orientation consisting of all the class participants and their assigned mentors. The purpose of the program is to prepare our young professionals while providing valuable tools and resources to develop into future business and community leaders.
This program effectively utilizes the resources of theChamber to develop and enhance leadership skills of ouryoung professionals with a focus on essential skills forbusiness, community and personal growth. One of the manyparts of this program that we are really excited about is theinvolvement of our existing business leaders serving asmentors to these young professionals. With the experienceeach one of them possesses, they are sharing thoseexperiences and knowledge that only helps them grow thatmuch more.
This program and curriculum was designed after a year ofplanning by the Chamber’s Leadership DevelopmentCommittee. Along with mentorship being a major part of theprogram, the curriculum provides a genuine and detailedfocus on several key leadership qualities such as EffectiveNetworking, Effective Delegation, Understanding yourLeadership Style, Visioning and Strategic Planning, PoliticalSavvy, Influence and Negotiation, Image and the Media andmuch more.

a Very Special thank YouMany times we come across people who are either a new member of our Chamber, new to thecommunity requesting information on how to get more involved, or long time business leaderslooking to give back one more time; not just with our Chamber but in our community as well.Volunteering at the Chamber includes many different aspects including serving as a ChamberAmbassador, being a member of a Chamber committee, being elected to serve on our Board ofDirectors or just to help out with a program or event. Regardless of the reason or method ofvolunteering, each plays an important role with the success of YOUR Chamber.
Volunteering not only benefits the Chamber but also the volunteer. When someone donates theirtime, the difference made is tremendous. It shapes our community for the better and theexperience improves the person who donates their time. Volunteering is what makes a community. It brings people together to work on a common goal. Whether it is a fundraiser, to help a family inneed or an organization to accomplish its mission, volunteers makes it happen.
In addition, volunteering strengthens skills and shows that an effort is being made to give backwhile meeting the employer’s needs and responsibilities. Skills acquired through volunteerism include communication, working with others, taking direction, leading others, dedication and time management. Employers realize that as avolunteer you must be able to prioritize your schedule in order to devote time for activities that benefit others. They alsorecognize that most people who volunteer are conscientious, honest and hard-working.
All this brings me to the following--a special thanks to all our volunteers that helped the Albany Area Chamber ofCommerce accomplish many goals in 2014. Thank you to our board of directors for their guidance and leadership. Thankyou to our committee members who helped each of our committees accomplish our goals and satisfy our mission. Thankyou to our Ambassadors who show up to each Star Business of the Week, Ribbon Cutting, Business After Hours and otherevents to help greet and provide our guests with an enjoyable experience while showing our member businesses they areappreciated. Thank you to everyone who gave their time this year to the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce. I assure youwe do not take your time for granted and you all are very much appreciated.
