WE’VE RECEIVED A BUNCH OF NEW EQUIPMENT, SO SEE OUR FRONT DESK FOR ALL OF THE NEW ACTIVITIES!!! NOVEMBER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: (LOA’s are provided within 5 days; these are open to ALL active duty service members, dependents, DoD! Transportation provided to active duty, with the priority given to single/unaccompanied active duty service members).

WE UPDATE OUR WEBSITE EVERY FEW DAYS WITH ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE NOT ON THIS CALENDAR! Annunciation Catholic School Scroogefest Volunteering: Help this school with their annual Scroogefest!!

o Wednesday, 15 November: Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630; will return at 2000. Decorating! o Thursday, 16 November: Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630; will return at 2000. Decorating! o Friday, 17 November: Meet at the Roadhouse at 1430; will return at 1900. Decorating! o Saturday, 21 November: TWO SHIFTS!! Meet at the Roadhouse 0530 – 1330 AND/OR 1300-2000. Assisting with event and activities!

New Bern Christmas Season Decorating Volunteering: Help our local community decorate their outdoor community with Christmas lights and decorations. Please wear boots/tennis shoes and outdoor weather appropriate clothing. Dates and times TBA.

WRNS GUITAR PULL (11/15). o Event Set-Up: Details to follow on our website! o Toys for Tots: Meet at the Roadhouse at 1630. Dress blues attire (please bring appropriate civilian attire to change into afterwards!) o Event Kick-off and Tear-Down: Details to follow on our website!

Ft Macon Beach Clean-Up (11/17). Assist with cleaning up Ft. Macon Beach and Trails! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1500. Please bring sunscreen, closed toed shoes, hat, bagged lunch, and water source.

Veteran’s Organic Garden Volunteering in New Bern (Friday, 3 November and Saturday 11/11). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return at 1300.

Toys for Tots (NOW through 12/17) See/call the front desk to sign-up. Other Toys for Tots Special Event opportunities will also be available at the front desk and our website on a continuous basis. Attire is Dress Blues please.

o Havelock Walmart. M – F (1800-2000); Saturdays and Sundays (1200-1800). Two-hour increments (but there is no max). Please stop by the front desk 30 minutes prior to your start time. POV only, unless other arrangements are made with the SMP Front Desk ahead of time.

o Morehead City AND New Bern Walmart. M – F (1800-2000); Saturdays and Sundays (1200-1800). Two-hour increments (but there is no max). POV ONLY!! Please stop by the front desk to complete your paperwork.

Harker’s Island Clean Up with NOAA (11/13). Help beautify our local Harker’s Island with NOAA! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0815; will return around 1330. Lunch included! Croatan National Forest Volunteering (11/18)! Assist the Forestry Service with a variety of outdoor projects in support of the Croatan National Forest. Meet at the Roadhouse

at 0800; will return around 1630. Please wear closed toed shoes/boots and weather appropriate civilian attire. Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning.

Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire

is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. Youth Sports Basketball and Cheer Coaches! If you are interested in volunteering to be a Youth Sports Basketball or Cheer on base for 7-12 year old athletes, please contact

MCCS Youth Sports at 252-466-5493. Will be 3-5 hours per week. Tryon Palace Garden Blitz Days (every Wednesday; POV only). Assist the Tryon Palace with raking, gardening, and mowing. POV only. Meet at Tryon Palace (0830 to 1130

and/or 1300-1600). Please bring gloves, sunscreen, water source, and bug spray. Please see the SMP front desk if you would like to borrow work gloves. Additional registration details on our website!

Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required.

WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer!

NOVEMBER SPECIAL EVENTS:

SMP THANKSGIVING DINNER (11/23). Enjoy the Holidays with a great home-cooked Thanksgiving Dinner of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, candied yams, Hawaiian rolls, and desserts! Participate in some flag football and competitions, or watch the football games and holiday movies. Event starts at 1100 AND dinner will be served at 1400. We will be bringing meals to all those on duty (Barracks and work).

UFC FIGHT NIGHT (11/4) UFC 217: Middleweight Title Fight. Bisping vs St. Pierre! Prelims kick-off at 2000; Main fight starts at 2200. GUITAR PULL!!!(11/15). Enjoy the awesome music of Granger Smith, Kane Brown, Tyler Farr, Walker Hayes, Craig Campbell, and Brooke Eden. Tickets (free) were distributed by

Crystal Coast Travel and Leisure on a first come/first served basis. Volunteer opportunities are listed above! SMP Council Meeting (11/16 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL

concerns. Pool Tournaments (11/7, 11/16, 11/21, and 11/30) at 2000. Canvas and Cork (11/14) at 2000. Poker Tournaments (11/3, 11/9, 11/14, 11/23, and 11/28) at 2000. Cards Against Humanity Night (11/13 and 11/27) at 1930. Musical Bingo (11/9 and 11/30) at 2030. Bible Discussion Group! Every Tuesday at 1900 in the Roadhouse reading room. FREE SMP Golf Clinics (every Wednesday): Have fun while learning golf fundamentals or work on your existing technique! All range balls and equipment will be provided. Meet

at the Roadhouse at 1645, or directly at the Sound of Freedom Golf Course at 1700. Clinic is one hour. Pre-registration required on our SMP website by 8am the day prior.. Fridays! Karaoke!! Starts at 1900. College Saturday and Tailgate Sundays!! (every Saturday and Sunday). SMP Colleges Saturdays and SMP Tailgate Sundays are here!!! Come enjoy your favorite football games,

great company, and great Roadhouse specials!!

WILD WEST WEEK (13 NOVEMBER THROUGH 17 NOVEMBER):

Western Art Workshop (11/14 at 1900). Create your own art in this free class! All supplies and instruction provided. Oregon Trail Challenge (11/16 at 1800): Bring your A-game for this cool old west survival competition; kicks off at 1800. It’s a Wild, Wild West Party (11/16 at 1930): Cowboys and Indians Party with free food (pizza, wing, root beer floats, and drinks)!! Come hang out after field day and have some

fun! Show up as a Cowboy or Indian; prizes will be awarded to the most creative 3 dressers!! American West Trivia Night (11/16 at 1900). GREAT prizes awarded!!

SPECIAL TRIPS:

SMP and DEVIL DOG DARE (FREE!). SMP has received a number of spots for Devil Dog Dare, to include PAINTBALL. Two packages available! Includes the activities, lunch, and drinks at NO CHARGE to the Command/Marine/Sailor. Please contact John at [email protected] to reserve your group! Open on Fridays, and available Tuesdays and Thursdays. Advanced reservations required please.

o The “Fun” Package consists of the Zipline, Drop Zone, and Paintball (includes gear and air with 300 paintballs. Lunch and beverages included!
