Hambden Families ?

As we prepare to honor Veterans during Veteran?s week here at school there are a few things you can do at home to help us out.

#1. If you have someone that you know (family member or friend) that is a Veteran or currently serving, please fill out a white index card and send them to school so we can display the names on one of our bulletin boards. Please write the name of the Veteran on the plain white side and your child?s name and class on the back if you would like the card returned. Send these in to Mrs. Burress and if you need white cards let her know and she would be happy to send some to you.

#2 We would like to include pictures of Veterans in our display at school. If you have pictures of a family member or friends, who are Veterans and you, could send them in, we would like to include them on our bulletin board for November. Please label the pictures on the back and they will be returned to you.

PENNY WAR VETERAN'S PROJECT FUNDRAISER

Our Veteran's Service Project for this year is going to be a Penny War. Proceeds f rom the fundraiser wil l be spl it between the "USO" for the soldiers and a veterans group serving overseas. The col lect ion begins on Monday November 7th and ends on Friday November 11th. The goal : The class that col lects the most pennies wil l win a pizza party! Make sure you ask permission before you bring any money to school .

Terrific Kids for the Month of October

The Terrif ic Kids program is a joint partnership with the Chardon Kiwanis Club and the Hambden PTO in recognizing students with specif ic traits that are spotlighted each month. At Hambden our Terrif ic Kids selection process begins with our shared vision of habits. The Hambden 5 C's (Creativity, Collaboration, Crit ical Thinking, Communication, and Character) each month Hambden salutes students who stand out in one of these traits.  Our focus this month is COLLABORATION.

HEALTH SERVICE ALERT

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease has been reported in al l grades. It is caused by the coxsackie virus and appears as a raised rash to the palms, soles, and around the mouth and progresses to bl isters, then scabs.   Bl isters may also appear in the mouth, making swal lowing painful .   The virus is spread through respiratory secret ions and feces.   Treatment is pal l iat ive - t reat the symptoms.   Children may return to school as long as they have no fever and no f luid f i l led or weeping bl isters.   Handwashing and proper disposal of soiled t issues are ef fect ive measures in helping to control this disease.

Next PTO meet ing is November 8, 2016 at 3:45p.m. (With it being right after school, parking at the Township Park is recommended if there is no room in school lot. Town Hall parking lot is for voter use.)

Our Vendor Night wil l be on November 19th f rom 10a.m. to 1p.m. Admission wil l be $1, or donate a new or gent ly used coat and receive FREE admission!

Kalahari Fundraiser: Event date is November 22, 2016. It is recommended to book your stay as soon as possible to avoid being shut out . *See brochure*

Thinking ahead?  The Holiday Shoppe will be December 5, 2016.  We?re sad to say that the Carroll Family will not be back at Hambden next year, therefore, we?ll need new volunteers to run the Holiday Shoppe.  Along with shopping for the event and setting up/ running the event (with lots of volunteer help!); we are REALLY in need of someone to store everything for the event.  This could be one person, or a couple families.  Please consider helping this event continue, as it is a favorite!
