Abbreviations
An abbreviation is shortened version of a word or phrase.
Rule 1. Use standard abbreviations for titles before or after proper names.

Rule 2. Use abbreviations for the names of organizations, corporations, and
societies. The first time you use the name in a piece of writing, spell out the name
and give the abbreviation in parentheses after it. Then, if you mention the name

Rule 3. Use abbreviations for specialized terms. If the term is
unfamiliar to your readers, spell it out the first time you use it.
I joined the National Rifle Association (NRA) last year. My father also belongs to the
NRA.The World Health Organization (WHO) does a lot of work in Africa. WHO is a non-profit organization, so it depends on donations.
Rule 4. Do not abbreviate cities, states, or countries in formal writing.

NUMBERS
Numbers
When to spell out numbers and when to use numerals can be confusing. In general, spell out numbers from one through ninety-nine, numbers expressed in two words (two hundred, three thousand), or numbers that begin a sentence. Use numerals for all other numbers, including decimals, percentages, page numbers, years, and time of day.
