GUIDELINES FOR GODPARENTS/SPONSORS

Have you been asked to be a GODPARENT? Have you been asked to SPONSOR someone ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for an adult in the RCIA program? It is an honor and a privilege to be asked. You are seen as someone that a family, child, teenager, or adult looks up to as living a strong, Christian Catholic faith. You model that behavior in the way that you live your life.

To receive a sponsorship form signed and sealed by the Pastor, please keep the following in mind: I am age 16 or older. I am registered in the parish. If married, the marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. I attend Mass on a regular basis. I contribute to the support of the Church, as best I can. (Attendance is taken by the

envelopes in the collection basket). I receive Sacraments according to the Laws of the Church, and I fulfill the requirements listed above. The Church takes very seriously the role of being a sponsor. Choosing a sponsor would be based on the person’s dedication to the faith and regular practice thereof. Sponsor letters will not be given to individuals who do not meet these criteria.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Peace and Joy to you and your loved ones!

WWe conclude our liturgical year this weekend with the celebration of the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Next weekend is the First Sunday of Advent. That will be the beginning of Year C in the Church’s Calendar.

“Are you the king?” Pilate asked Jesus. Our good Lord answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world.”

This baffled Pilate, just as it may have disconcerted some of us. How can a king come from a small town called Nazareth? How can a carpenter be a king?”

When Jesus accepted the title of kingship from Pilate’s question, he emptied the notion of royalty with his own kind of kingship. It is a kingship, where the thorny wreath is the crown. It is a kingship, where the Cross on Calvary became his throne. It is a kingship like no other.

Jesus Christ reigns as a King in the hearts and souls of those who llove Him. His kingdom is not bounded by territorial limitations and dividing walls. His kingdom lives wherever and whenever men and women of goodwill live what He preached and commanded. His kingdom is there anytime and anywhere we freely choose and commit ourselves to living as He lived.

Our King loves his subjects to death, and more importantly, to life forever. He loves us because he does not want to let go of the dream, which includes the purpose for our lives, the formation of a united community where reverence and respect for the Lord are present in our families, in each individual, and in each and every person in our fragile world.

What could be our questions and what could be our dreams? JJesus is Lord and King of oour lives. Nothing can steal the dream of His kkingdom from us. He has not given up his hope for us. We cannot give up our participation in His dream and in His prayer.

With my prayers and warm wishes,

Fr. PJ

Guardian Angel Prayer

(This is a Mother's Prayer to the Guardian Angels of her children)

I humbly salute you,

O you faithful, heavenly Friends of my children!

I give you heartfelt thanks for all the love and goodness you show them.

At some future day I shall, with thanks more worthy than I can now give,

repay your care for them, and before the whole heavenly court

acknowledge their indebtedness to your guidance and

protection. Continue to watch over them.

Provide for all their needs of body and soul. Pray, likewise, for me, for my husband,

and my whole family, that we may all one day rejoice in your blessed

company.

Amen

Prayer for Babies in their Mothers’ Wombs

O God of all creation, Nurture

and protect tiny children and

keep them safe in their mothers’

wombs. As you so wondrously

form their hearts and minds, and

lungs and souls, so strengthen our wills to lovingly

nurture and protect them. Give us the eyes to see

them as our brothers and sisters, the minds to

welcome them as our own, and the faith to defend

them as Your children. We ask this through the

intercession of Mary, our Blessed Mother, and the

mother of all the little ones, through Christ Your Son,

our Lord.

Amen

Mini Meditaon The Church

“The Church exists so that the living God may be known –

so that man may learn to live with God, live in his sight and in fellowship with him. The Church exists to prevent the advance of hell upon earth and to make the earth fit to live in through the light of God. It is only on the basis of God’s presence that the earth is humanized.”

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

POPE FRANCIS PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR NOVEMBER

In the Service of Peace That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conlict.

Here’s One Posive Encouragement

Have you ever noticed that when you perform an act of kindness that makes someone happy, bringing joy and a smile to that someone , you also feel good. When that someone is one you love, then this goodness you feel is stronger inside of you and that feeling is coming deep from within your heart bringing you closer. Are there times you would like to be closer to Jesus and love him more? If so, perform a true act of kindness with all your heart for someone you do not know well. Watch their face and eyes light up because you cared. You and they will now both share the closeness of love with each other and Jesus. A win, win love experience! Do you want to try it? Helping others can not hurt you.

Thank you to your parish for your connual support in this region. We are grateful for your donaon of $530 from St. Mary’s Church. May the hearts of Jesus and His Mother be the warmth and love

of your heart and enclose it in theirs protecng you from all harm. Please be assured of our prayers for you and remember us and those whom we serve in your prayers. May God bless you.

Sincerely in Jesus, SR. M Rose Therese M.C.

The October debt reducon collecon was $1,609, which we paid directly toward principal. Thank you for your generosity.

Did you know that the water table on our church property is only 18” below ground level? Outside the church walls drainage work was completed by coating

the exterior stone and waterproofing material eight feet below ground level and an array of underground drainage pipes and rain gardens were installed. The basement inside also has a system of French drains around the perimeter and is equipped with seven sump pumps!

APOCALYPSE NOW

Every year as we near the end of the church’s liturgical cycle, and ready to begin a new year at Advent time, we encounter these readings which talk about cataclysmic changes, about cosmic events heralding the end of the world as we know it, and these things can sound strange to our ears. We have been reading these

things for two thousand years now, and the world is still here! How do we interpret these readings? It’s a good time to reflect on our understanding of the Scriptures, especially as some fundamentalists have made a kind of cottage industry writing about the end times. Books like “Left Behind”, which I have heard has sold phenomenally well. There is an understandable human curiosity about these things, and there are always plenty of hucksters available to feed that curiosity.

The passages which we read, like the one from the Book of Daniel, which was our first reading today are written in a literary form called “apocalyptic”, as is the last book of the Bible the Book of Revelation, and parts of Matthew and Luke. The apocalyptic literary form became popular for writers in the centuries just before and after the time of Christ. It was developed as a means of bringing encouragement and hope to those who were undergoing persecution and severe trials. In the case of the Book of Daniel, this persecution came from Greek conquerors who tried to enforce their pagan religion on the Jews. Revelation was written for Christians who were being murdered by the Romans for much the same reason. Apocalyptic writings always came from a situation in which the community felt themselves under siege, with little or no hope that things were going to improve. The forces arrayed against them were too numerous and too strong and there was an undercurrent of dejection and gloom. The message in these books was NOT to stock up on bottled water and canned goods and hunker down in the root cellar, but rather to show that in spite of the fact that the forces of evil had the upper hand, that they seemed to be winning the war, that actually they did not have the last say. Someday in his own good time, God would make things right. The underlying meaning was to keep the faith, hold on to hope and fight the good fight.

The apocalyptic writings have as their aim to give hope to those who are struggling in what seems to be a hopeless struggle. To let us know that in the end, the outcome is in the hands of God. Our part is to keep faith and hope alive in our hearts as we play our own part in this cosmic battle. We who come here are the faithful few. We find encouragement and strength in our community of Our Lady of Hope. How appropriate that title is! We find hope in the proclamation of the Scriptures, and we find the strength to live a holy life in the nourishment we receive at the Eucharistic table. In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus asks his disciples a very pertinent question. He says: “But when the Son of Man returns, will he find any faith on the earth?” A good question. How do you answer it?

Deacon Paul

but Earle Naval Base and the Sandy Hook Coast Guard Staon have been included. We work with the Base Chaplains in idenfying recipients. The only restricon for applicants is their rank can be no higher than an E3 – junior enlisted personnel.

Last year we sent 99 service personnel home; as of 10/31 we have purchased ckets for 61 this year. The average cost per cket is $550. Please be as generous as you can to send our military home for the holidays. Note: We send all religious affiliaons, genders and races home, the Knights pay for the Chaplain’s selecons.

Flyers are available in the back of the church if you would like to send a donaon. The Knights thank you all for your connued support of our programs.

Supermarket Gi Card Sales

Shoprite, Wegman’s, and Foodtown gi cards have been sold at St. Jerome’s Church for several years. The purpose is to raise funds to support St. Jerome School. Cards are available in $25, $50, and $100 denominaons. The cost to the buyer equals the value of the card. The profit to St. Jerome School is 5% of the total sales. This may sound like a small amount, but it adds up.

Gi cards will be sold at St. Jerome Church: aer 7:30 am Mass every Sunday and on the 1st Sunday of every month before the 11am Mass.

At St. Mary’s: Gi cards will be sold on the 1st Sunday of every month before the 10am Mass.
