REFLECCIÓN DEL PASTOR

XXXIV Domingo en Tiempo Ordinario

Solemnidad de Cristo Rey

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

Fr. Adrián Vázquez

FATHER’S REFLECTION

34th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Solemnity of Christ the King

Dear brothers and sisters, We are on the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year, which ends with the Solemnity of the Feast of Christ the King. This same solemnity gives way to the time of Advent and initiates Cycle C of the calendar in the Liturgy. The Solemnity of Christ the King has a broad meaning for the Uni-versal Church. The three readings of today reveal the kingship of the Son of God from different angles. For example, in the gospel, Jesus answers Pilate, without

hesitation "I am king"! It is interesting to note that the elders, the high priests, and the other powers wanted to see Christ dead, but at the same time no one want-ed to bear the responsibility of his blood. For that reason they insisted that he only be stoned and not crucified. In Pilate's question about the Kingdom of Christ, Jesus questions him if the question comes from himself or he has heard it from others. I believe that the question of Christ to Pilate is the same question that invites us to question ourselves about who reigns in the heart of each one of us, of each family, of our

community of Faith, here in San Jerome. I think it is very easy to live a life with the appearance of the presence of Christ but not his royalty. This comes to mind, for example, when we justify sin, living an easy life without any moral commitment to Christ, his Gospel and the Church. For a Christian, Christ has to be the King of his life that reigns totally in his being. May Christ be our King in faith and action!
