This Week’s Featured Ministry

RCIA Volunteer

About RCIA: The Rites of Chris an Ini a on of Adults (RCIA) is for adults who belong to no church, those who seek to be bap zed, those bap zed in another faith tradi on and wish to become Catholic, or those bap zed Catholics who have never received First Eucharist or Confirma on. The program is a pro-cess of conversion designed to welcome new members into the Church, and at the same me, lead every parishioner to deeper belief and renewal of his or her faith. Beginning in the fall of each year, we gather to pray, study and learn what the Catholic Church believes and proclaims to be revealed by God.

We are looking for: Parishioners who want to par cipate in preparing prospec ve members of the church for acceptance into the Catholic faith through educa on, prayer, and par cipa on in mee ngs and retreats, and assist in prepara on for the sacraments of Bap sm, Confirma on, and receiving the Eucharist. Volunteers must be Catholics in good standing who are willing to share their faith journey as a witness to those coming into the church. Adults who volunteer for this ministry must meet Pennsylvania State Law and Diocesan Youth Protec on requirements. The me commitment is generally two hours per week. Mee ngs are Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. from September through Easter.

Pastoral Council Minutes for the Month of November

Committee Reports: All acknowledged reading and understanding the content of the reports. Clarity wasmade on Reunion ticket sales total.

Web/email inquiries: none this past month.

Communications Committe€: lnformation rack was placed in the old Baptismal font area in front of churchand has been stocked with ministry brochures. There are a few additional spots available on the rack. Goingforward, a table will be there as well, manned 30 minutes before each Mass and L5 minutes after each Mass, toassist parishioners and answer any questions. Volunteers will be sought out for this position. lt was suggestedto ask Confirmation candidates to help. The parish continues using Flocknote and has been well received.Suggestion was made to expand Flocknote to be inspirational as well as informational; possibly adding dailyreflections and/or Saint of the Day. Parishioners would have the option to change their preferences in Flocknoteto receive these. Discussed possibly changing weekly bulletin format/company. Current vendor and additionalvendors would be explored. Those in the rectory office who compile the weekly bulletin would be consulted as

to what additional help, if any, is needed.

Welcoming Committee: Small group activities being explored to continue growth within the parish. ALPHAprogram was discussed again, and the committee willcontactthe person who was in charge of ALPHA in thepast.

Ministries Committees: Father Dave presented two ministries.

1. Altar Servers: Assist priest at Masses and devotions, i.e., Forty Hours, Holy Week. Servers help leadparishioners in prayer. Altar servers need to be in at least fourth grade and attend training sessions. Fournew servers were added to the Nov and Dec schedule. Difficulties: Fewer number of children in schools, many after school activities, high schoolstudents lose interest. Midnight Mass is an issue because of thelack of servers needed for candles, incense, etc. Options: Send out invites to all eligible children.Encourage young parishioners to get involved. May have to utilize adult servers.

2. Ushers: Assist parishioners exiting vehicles, help in finding seats, assist handicapped parishioners, collect Mass offerings, assist with directions, distribute bulletins after Mass. Three additionalparishioners have volunteered. Difficulties: never know how many ushers will be present at Mass, parishioners cannot identify ushers. Options: Ushers will be given nametags, suggestion made to addushers to Ministry Scheduler.

Sr. Cindy will present three of her ministries at the January 2022 meeting,

Catholic Ministries Drive: we have 566,845 in pledges and cash (52,glo increase from last month) againstour goal of 51L4, 674. Drive ends December 3L, 202L.

CARA Survey: Faith/Education: more faith-based education is needed. Get Fr. Dave involved in educationfrom ambo and have articles in the bulletin. Address capital improvements needed in the parish.

Strategic Plan: Jim Orr has agreed to chair. Jim, Fr. Dave, and Deacon Michael will meet to get a plantogether.

#!GiveCatholic Campaign: The specific project decided for St. Benedict Church will be the electronic sign

in front of church and signage throughout church property. Bids are being obtained for the project. A goal was

set at 540,000.00. Fr. Dave has a video on parish website explaining #lGive Campaign and will speak at Masses.Kickoff is November 15th - 29th . Wrap up November 30th.

Parish Directory: Bob Hancock is moving forward with the parish directory. He has the computer program

in place and would like to start with photos of parish groups. Further instructions will be given when personalphotos can be submitted from parishioners. Bob will assign days for photos to be taken. Parishioners mayalso purchase a photo package. Bob stated this is a several month's project.

Youth Ministry: John Akers, Michelle Herdman, Pam King, Buddy Berkebile and Bob Hancock will meet todiscuss with John Livingston. Buddy and Bob have agreed to be consultants since they were involved with theyouth group in years past.

Pastors Remarks: Fr. Dave spoke with Bishop Mark concerning dine-in events, i.e., fish fries, spaghettidinners. Bishop Mark stated going forward, dine-in events can take place, but protocol warrants the wearingof masks by workers at all times. As we all know, this is all subject to change. Fr. Dave also stated St. Benedictishelpingbuildanewschool inPakistanandrepairingtheschool inFr.Antony'svillageinlndia!! Theyareinsuch need of our help and St. Benedict parishioners have stepped up. St. Benedict will have two parish

missions in 2022, one will be in March and the other in the fall.
