Transportation

Hello welcome to November,

I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. For this edition of the Security Corner, I would like to once again ask for your assistance while driving in the

community, while on a paved roadway like Kings Blvd, or on a vacant golf course. I will label these areas “shared drivable areas”.

Recently, I have had the opportunity to speak to a few residents in my office who wanted to bring to my attention the close calls they encountered while on

the drivable areas in the community. In this instance there was a couple out for their routine morning walk on the vacant golf course. During their walk, a golf

cart came up from behind them and wanted the couple to move out of his way. In this real-world situation, one of the couple walking, is almost deaf and did

not hear the golf cart approach. The other person walking with her and the driver of the golf cart exchange words and it almost escalated.

# 1 - Do pedestrians have the right of way in this scenario? Remember this is your Security Chief trying to make a difference.

Per the… Florida Law 316.130 – Pedestrian Traffic Regulations

In any situation, no matter whether you technically have the right of way, it's the law that you must slow down or stop in order to avoid collision with a

pedestrian. It's up to you as the driver to ensure you're creating a safe environment. Always be vigilant and drive with caution!

# 2 - This one was from a bicyclist who wanted to speak to me about cars who have passed by her as she rode her bike on the side of the road. People would

lay on their vehicle horns for an extended period of time wanting her to move as they pass her by. Which would potentially frighten anyone on a bike. Again,

I was not there, please read on.

Per the… Bicycle Safety Tips for Motorists: Drivers MUST give bicyclists a minimum of three feet of clearance when driving alongside or passing them. It’s

the law.

***For the record, security does not maintain or control any roadways or any of the drivable areas in Kings Point.

As I close with this month’s edition, 2020/2021 hasn’t been the easiest of years and everyone’s life story Is different. Please be kind to each other. Small acts

of kindness go a long way in affecting someone’s life.

“ Be the change you want to see in the world.”
