Hi everybody, boy what a show we
have just put on. This letter is going
to be all about the show; a look at
pros, cons, and thank yous. Let’s do thank yous first and the first of
course is to Len, this was the 29th
annual show and Len has run 19 of
them, nothing fazes him, never a
panic, he just gets on and gets it
done. Thanks Len for another job
very well done. Thanks to Chris,
Chris puts in a big effort at show
time. He not only does as much as
everyone else in setting up and
packing up, but he does a huge job
behind the scenes, counting,
balancing, allocating, and reporting
on the money, that work goes on
well after everyone else has
finished. Thanks Chris. A big thanks

to all members that helped out, I could
not go and name you all, that would
make this letter go on into next month.
However, I would like to thank you all
very much without your help this, the
“biggest show of its type in country
Vic.” just would not go on. Thanks to
all the exhibitors, without you all we
would not have a show, you add such a

wide diverse flavor to the show thank
you.
To the pros and there are many of
these. First the venue, it was just spot
on, it seemed to have a better
atmosphere and it was the first time
we have used it, the feedback was
great, it’s a winner. Time of year; I
think we had enough positive vibe to
say that the change has worked well.
Catering; although at the time of
writing this I have no figures on its
success, just to have the ability to
raise more revenue with a small
number of members has to be a big
positive. The hub was another
winner; the feedback I got was
fantastic - from schools, the public,
exhibitors, and
This month a new member has
joined the club. Bronwyn Cairns
has come along to several sessions
already and her starting project has
been using old coloured pencils to
make some interesting new pieces
with Olive Wood.
Bronwyn grew up in Girgarre on a
dairy farm. She always had an
interest in fashion and studied at
RMIT. Pursuing this career
allowed her to work as a Production
Manager and Designer at
Canterbury and a surf label. She
lived in Queensland for the last 16
years teaching in the fashion
industry, overall working in the
area for 25 years.
More recently, Bronwyn has
moved back to GV to be closer to

Roll Up, Roll Up, What a Show! exhibitors, and some of our own club
members. Possibly the best though
was the general feedback on the show
as a whole, we had people giving all
sorts of praise, “the best show I have
been to”, “this is better than the
Melbourne show”, and so on, but the
best for me was on Saturday night
when Denise and I called into a
supermarket on the way home, a
stranger came up to us and
congratulated us on a great show with much excitement. When we have put
in so much work, to make some big
changes to the show, getting such
great positive feedback is fantastic, it
makes you feel that all the work was
worth it.
To the negatives and they are not big
just some adjustments; maybe the entry should be at the north end of the
building, the office down near the
shelving, more signage. But the one
negative for me was the PA system; I
had people over the two days keep
saying to me that it was not working
in the west building (the older
building). It took me a day and a half
to work out that someone kept
turning it down. I understand if it is
in your ear all day it can be a problem
but please if there is a problem come
and talk to me. If I had known on the
first day we may have been able to
shift it up higher that first night. Now
we need to make changes next year
and we do not know if they will work
or not. As it was, a lot of things were
not announced in the older building.
At our next general meeting, we will
spend time on getting your feedback
on the show. We will then put it into
a big melting pot and come up with
bigger and better plans for our 30th
show.
Just before I close off it is our 30th
show next year and we need to
celebrate this, so come with your
ideas. My thinking is a dinner on the
Saturday night, if we do we will be
looking for a member to take on the
organizing of it. I know it is a year
away but that is only 10 meetings!
Put your ideas down and bring them
to the meeting.
Keep the chips flying.

Thanks for the interview Bronwyn.
We look forward to seeing you
around the club.
