November 2017

Pastor’s Pen It’s that time of the year again. Leaves are changing, chili is on the stove, football all weekend, and Thanksgiving right around the corner. As we enter into this holiday season its good to take time and reflect on what we ought to be thankful for. Thankful for the many wonderful gifts that our God has blessed us with.

We read in 1 Chronicles 16:8, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!” David is reflect-ing back and recounting all that the Lord has done for him and his people. And this lead to David giving thanks or honor to the Lord and then singing praises to His glorious name.

As we reflect on all that the Lord has done for us and His hand of favor, both individually and corporately as a body, we have much to be thankful for. But most of all we should be thank-ful that God in His love sent His son Jesus to die on the cross in place of our sins, and in so doing save us and bring us ever closer to Him.

And as David says in 1 Chronicles 16, we should make known God’s wondrous deeds among all people. Sharing with others what we are thankful for, but most of all, that the Lord has redeemed us! This is a wonderful time of the year to invite friends, family, and neighbors. I want to encourage you to do so, and to be example of Christ to them.

Blessings!, Jacob Guinn, Pastor

Can you hear the sound of Christmas music in the distance or see a glare of lights through your car window? If you can it can mean only one thing, Speedway in Lights is back for our eighth year. Once again we will need people to help with greeting, selling tickets, directing and parking cars. Even Santa will need help in his village. What a great time of fellowship with other church members. Did I mention the perks: like standing out in the freezing cold rain, eating free food, and drinking lots of hot chocolate and/or coffee and talking to someone that you may not know that well. If this sounds like fun to you, IT IS. If you don’t have anything to do on Monday nights starting November 20

nd

- January 1nd

, please come and join us for a great time. We will need at least 17 volunteers for each of these nights. I know that definitely seems like a lot of nights to sacrifice, but the fellowship with other members is PRICELESS. God has used the Speedway in Lights to bless the youth these past eight years. We would not have been able to have this privilege without the help of those who volunteer. If you are in-terested please see Mark to sign up. Once again we will be taking a van from the church; we will leave at 5:00pm. Thank you again for your help.

We will be having a volunteers meeting Sunday, November 12, after the morning worship service. Running the Race, Mark Hebrews 12:1-3

Mark’s Madness Preschool Little Bits

Another Preschool promotion! Colton Humphreys is moving up to Younger Preschool Class from Babies. The Younger Preschool class is 18 months old to 3 years old. Then, children promote to Middle Preschool when they turn three. After that, the Older Preschoolers are grouped by their school year. They grow so quickly! The time we have them to love on them and tell them stories of Jesus seems so short.

We welcome our newest Extended Session worker, Kelli Mallasch, who’ll be doing Babies class. Emily Campbell joined us last year and Janeen Campbell was recently added to our fifth Sunday group. All our teachers and Extended Session workers are so important to Preschool Ministry. To have young families in our church, there must be people who love our babies and little ones and are willing to give their time in helping care for them. This is why our Preschool Council takes pleasure in sponsoring our Worker’s Appreciation Dinner each year. The date in March will be announced soon. This year’s theme is “In Jesus’ Name.” Let all we do and teach be in the name of Jesus; in His power, and for His glory.
